Here's related source material for that clip. The station's promotions department posted some portions of their 1989 sales presentation. The first one here is for news, the second featuring their 6-10am morning schedule- World News This Morning, Eyewitness News This Morning, Good Morning America, and The Oprah Winfrey Show.

Meh, that was 6 years ago. It's a very good theme that replaced a great theme.
-
Yeah, the last 4 themes for ABC (GMA, Nightline, 2018 Election, and This Week) have been misses, too reliant on percussion, yet quiet and lacking punch. It must be at the direction of the network, but DreamArtists Studios used to put out much better work for them.

The presence of (or lack of) an online bio is never a good indicator, especially in regards to newer employees.

The dam is breaking open. The mapping software isn't new (adopted after the flagships), but that branded graphic sure is. The Helvetica style remains, but not much of a clue beyond the color scheme and the flat look. It's big like WABC, that goofy "YM" is similiar to KABC, but the look overall might not fall on either side.

They changed the news bug in the summer of 2013, updated with an updated 7 and the then-new ABC logo. That lasted for just a few months before they blew everything up with the reintroduction of Eyewitness News. I wouldn't be stunned if this is all temporary. They LOVE to roll stuff out incrementally.

Damn, they're busy today. The new logo has debuted on the time/temp bug. The blue is still a little see-through, and the all-gray ABC has replaced the blue. Everything else, including the opens, remains the same.

Since we're talking about it, might as well bring up some other changes. In the last week, the translucent logo during network programming has changed to a grayscale version of the updated logo, the call letter ID dropped the blue box to be just text last night (though it's back to normal today), and the new logo has also made its way onto the network promos. Those are generally minor, but this next one has me wondering. One of the station's graphic artists has posted some promos and stuff on Vimeo in recent months, reflecting the current on-air look, but a few weeks ago, he dropped these out there. Yes, the typical thinking says that if he's posting, that it's been rejected, though I find it interesting how it builds off the current look. The fact that it doesn't maintain Helvetica in some form also makes me doubt its future, as all signs point to the station using it in the future. It also features a previously-unheard of branding. It could be an upcoming segment, or its own program. I dropped him a line, but no word back, though I'm not surprised.

New morning show promo with a very different look debuted tonight. They've departed from the standard graphics for the morning news before ("7 in the Morning," anyone?), but this one is definitely out there. I REALLY don't like this voiceover. She does work for the west coast O&O's, and that style just doesn't click east of the Mississippi.

Go to 12:26 in that WBKB video for an awesome promo touting the efforts by the then-5 ABC O&O stations to improve such things as awareness of community issues and race relations.

Haven't seen a WGN sportscast in awhile, but it looks like Rich King is doing a little Spring Training coverage in his retirement.

7 billion people on Earth with thousands, if not millions of different names, and I'm still amused that a newscast can be fronted by Cheryl, Mark, Cheryl & Mark.

Rafer confirms it. Curious to see what becomes of the Ponce/Bomke pair, as they're a superior anchor team compared to Schneider/Padilla from 6-9am.

For what it's worth, FOX32 does have a job opening online for an anchor/reporter.

From morning anchor to midday anchor, fill-in anchor demoted to field reporter, Roseanne Tellez finally got out of WBBM, before they could assign her to mopping floors. https://www.robertfeder.com/2019/02/18/robservations-amy-guth-host-daily-podcast-crains/

Since there's still a few minutes left on this Valentine's Day, enjoy these classics...

His last retirement (from WLS) is already on YouTube, well how about Floyd Kalber's first, from WMAQ in 1976, just before his 5-year run as Today's news anchor.

The summer of 1983 was a rough one for ABC anchors. Chicago legend Fahey Flynn died that summer, just weeks after World News Tonight anchor (and one time WLS/WBKB anchor/reporter) Frank Reynolds' passing. The same YouTube account that posted Flynn's memorials now has a look at Ted Koppel and Nightline's remembrance of Reynolds.

Hey, let's see what legendary sportscaster Warner Wolf is up to in retirement...oh. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/sports/sportscaster-warner-wolf-arrested-allegedly-removing-word-plantation-sign-n969556

1985 WBBM retrospective, looking back at the famous Kennedy/Nixon debate that took place at their Chicago studios. The video is tagged to begin with a very unique take on the classic "I Love Chicago, Chicago My Home" signature, used at their special presentation open.

WGN has proclaimed that CBS 2 "is on a rocket ship to 3rd place." This is brilliant.
