Is your life missing TWO FULL HOURS of KDBC from 1989? I've got just the thing for you! And it comes with two newscasts! "Live at 5" newscast begins at :54 and features an unknown theme. The 6pm open is at 59:25 and has *another theme*. And neither of them are what they used in 1990! The 5pm close uses VTS's That's the Spirit (commissioned by WYFF). There are Spirit of El Paso IDs throughout. This is the first time I've seen KDBC with that image, first time I've seen it on a newscast, and just the third station I know to have used it (KTVL).

"This is KAUZ channel 6, Wichita Falls-Lawton, Texoma's choice for news. This is 6 News First." A whole era of KAUZ we didn't have has appeared!

Interesting KXTV promo from 1988 with the Spirit of California logo and the "streaks" graphics they had debuted earlier that year.

Copyright Office entries show a 1984 creation date. I'm not sure who originated the original package, though KGTV (which used the v1) did commission a v2 update with its TVbD graphics.

So tantalizingly close to a KUTV mid-80s open but, alas, not yet... There is a KSL one and a KUTV segment with 5 seconds of a bumper theme. This clip has even less news presentation material, but there are some excerpts from KUTV's short-lived First News early evening newscast and tosses to Randall Carlisle in the KUTV newsroom:

That was John Christopher Burns. The WITN open is a knockoff, though.

Putting this here because this update from "CKND Sports Line" from May 20, 1993, is slightly more interesting than "typical Canadian sports show update". The monitors in the background on the right show CBS Newsnet and NBC News Channel feeds! Ron Futrell put up some more stuff including these clips from his Yakima days...

Discovered composers & publishers of music themes

NMSA "KZTV 1995" is a CBS Newspath theme... -
Not only that, they're not assuming any of KEYU's employees, basically just the licenses and site lease. I bet it won't be Regional Mexican after the sale — if it does, it will be under a different name with a new air staff.

Some of these montages have interesting stuff... This might be the best thing in them: If only for their rarity, the KRTV and KECI glimpses are good:

A whole lot of KUSA's Good Afternoon Colorado from 1990. What is the music used? The VTS Making a Difference pack (WRTV 1991 which really should be KUSA 1990)?

WALA's Action News 10 at 10pm for December 23, 1991: In Canadian material, this channel has a good amount of CKCO stuff including the station's 40th and 50th anniversary specials: Also, I don't remember seeing this graphics package/open... It really takes a fine tooth comb to find the differences, too: mostly text placement, at least two typos ("Patterson, NJ" and "Carrolton" in the Dallas open), and in the obvious case of WXTV, changes (eventually) for most of the imagery.

Only in 1984 could you provide instructions like "Between Levitz and Lawhon on Freeway" and everyone knew what freeway you'd be talking about...

KCCI with the CBS Affiliate Package in 1994 — with John Lindsay VO: This partial KATU newscast from 1997 includes a long close with the Scott Shelly Spirit of Texas update — the longest cut of this package I've ever heard!

Discovered composers & publishers of music themes

The Shenandoah name I don't have a source on, but it was definitely written for WTVR. (That was in response to a newspaper article excerpt I found from 1986 mentioning Keltonic as having composed WTVR's theme of the time.) Additionally, it appears in ASCAP as "WTVR News Theme". (He also co-wrote the WTHR Rainmaker theme from 615.) -
A curiosity from 1996: a KTVK "Fast Break" two-minute newscast from halftime of a KUTP Suns game! The music is original using the "Arizona's Family" musical signature. The sponsor bump at the end is voiced by Steve Wood — very early work from him.

Estrella TV will launch newscasts in three markets on Monday, but the setup's a bit strange. The newscasts will air at 5pm and 11pm in Miami and 4pm and 10pm in Houston and Dallas. Rubén Olague will serve as news director and anchor, while Carolina Sulbarán and Carolina Pereira both come to Estrella TV from Venezuela (Pereira moved to the States last year). The Miami and Houston shows will be anchored by Sulbarán and Olague, while Pereira joins Olague to host the Dallas show. Definitely sounds like only one market is gonna have live shows.

They must have just rolled out the new logo in the first clip — the old one is still on the mic flags!

Dan Spindle is trading in KNXV for KSL, evidently after he was moved from mornings to weekends. He starts in Salt Lake this week. https://www.azcentral.com/story/entertainment/media/2019/04/22/dan-spindle-left-channel-15-phoenix-moving-to-salt-lake-city-ksl/3538515002/
