  1. I'd wanted to see these for a while and they're all in this two-part report: all those old KESQ opens! Some of those 80s logo lockups with the three-stripe logo seem like Canadian TV branding... (Also I'd switch WWL News and Primetime News based on the WWL News open style and the 1998 date for Primetime News in a close) It also looks to me like KESQ 1990 might have debuted closer to 1987. KMIR's 50th anniversary special isn't the greatest, but it does have this snippet of an early-mid 80s news open:
  2. They are. Also worth noting is that the thread was a bump. Woods Communications — which also owns WCOV Montgomery, AL — filed with the FCC last year (March 20, 2018) to sell KLCW outright to Ramar for the $100,000 purchase price; the FCC approved on April 22. Ramar was already running KLCW under agreement.
  3. "Buy the music... Buy it just like you buy your cameras and like you buy your transmitters. When you buy it, you own it and you use it until it is no good and you can throw it away." –Buddy Bostick, 1985
  4. Heads up the station's community outreach, charity and social programs.
  5. It does feel like something from TVbD circa 1996-97... I think it's the typeface, honestly.
  6. This WLEX excerpt appears to not be late 83/early 84 but closer to late 85 or 86. Two reasons why: WLEX had adopted an updated logo (ditching the plain Helvetica 18), and more monitors had been added to the news set. Compare with this 1/20/85 newscast:
  7. Their national clients included ESPN, A+E Networks, ABC and NBC.
  8. Yo, nice find by Ntropolis there. LoConte Goldman closed in January 2000 after seven years. It was based in Boston and I do see some chatter in posts here that they did the OG Hearst package in 1995.
  9. A very short WDBJ clip from 1991: Mostly, but not all, additional WGRZ material: This Lansing news bit (I believe WILX but not sure) from 1979 is appropriate for this time of year: This cable newscast in Hazleton, PA, from 1994 is a little curious oddity:
  10. It looks okay...but it also makes the other network graphics look out of date and overly glossy. Also, surprised they still use crystal bugs upper right (perhaps because of feed simulcasts?).
  11. This WCCO 1996 news excerpt has elements with their use of the KCBS Michael Randall package—in 1996, a year before the NMSA has them using it.
  12. That is something YouTube has disabled right now in the wake of the events in New Zealand.
  13. Univision is bringing two-hour morning newscasts to San Antonio/Austin, Dallas, and Houston. The shows debuted yesterday. KWEX and KAKW simulcast.
  14. Yeah, I can hear that too! (BTW, the first half has a promo for a game telecast using an instrumental bed of Hello.)
  15. News reports (with opens) on the opening of Fort Worth Alliance Airport in 1989. The audio is missing from the back half and the audio deteriorates a good bit, too, but there's one open from each station:
  16. From the Twin Cities, this is...—wait that's not KMSP...
  17. That is how you broach the topic on your own air. Exemplary work in remaining impartial and covering a news story about your own station.
  18. Too bad they didn't ditch the overly rounded "T13" logo... That T is awful.
  19. Ohlmeyer mentions it being exactly one year since the tragedy unfolded, so this is June 17, 1986. By this time they were indeed no longer the ABC affiliate.
  20. This KOLN/KGIN newsbreak with Mel Mains (who was there for 34 years!) from 1983 features the interlaced 10/11 logo that they used at the time:
  21. Steve Krafft is retiring after 34 years with KSAZ. Tomorrow is his last day. He was the station's second-longest tenured on-air personality behind only Linda Williams.
  22. Is that supposed to be a video? As it is it's just audio. Also, it's a *very large* file, especially for just audio. @MarkAP
  23. Interesting miscue in the open video where we see that it was produced 9/7/81...
  24. That's actually not that bad of an open... The PYCCO slogan seems to have outlived the image package, too.
  25. This WRTV "trackside" show from the '94 Indy 500 is all sorts of interesting:
