That theme has a very Tuesday/Network feel to it. I've heard it somewhere, too.

Mmmm, Real News... One of the essential opens of the 90s, no doubt about it. Also, all those KCBS opens really emphasize not only how nice that package is but what a break it was with their recent past.

An All the News close...in 1994! Only at KSNF... And... HOLY CAKE IT'S THE FABLED CHRIS CRANE KTVI PACK!
-
The open graphics were sort of lackluster — they were an affiliate package that a couple other stations used (KCCI, WBMG) — but the music was and remains incredible, and the in-show graphics were definitely ahead of their time. 25 years on, it still sounds amazing. The v3 Sunset 10 that they introduced with it was also very good and an improvement at small sizes over the v2 that was used in The Vision era.

Can't say I've seen this TVbD open before...

Time for the Channel 10 News...
-
Wow, never seen that before! Planer died in 2011. He was a producer for Today at the time. Later he would become the head of the network's European news operation.
-
Sheesh, they had to cut out *everything* good out of the KDRV clip, didn't they...

This is good stuff too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZsBmvekq9_U And listen to Beau Weaver slog his way through KTTV's license renewal PSA! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v__UCM6Bf7M There's even a KDOC signoff: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ISuneEi19WU And another KBSC ON TV promo with Chuck Riley — who could sell absolutely anything, anywhere, anytime with that voice: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MJoB5pXfyRQ

KHJ in the mid-late 80s had "Simply Great News" with its 8 and 9pm news shows: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kATV26ZfsFk A couple of samples of that KCBS-WNEV theme from news teases with Warren Olney, from 1987: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TyW4L0-Ho0w https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2YAJz7BMSC0 On the Spanish side are these KWHY news bits... Early 2000s? Very late 90s? I have no idea on a date. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qfraWWYFl0A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=di8pCXvS36w

WJBK in 1995...

Not quite.

Wow, did not know they had news in the 80s (Wikipedia sure doesn't). They had a news director in 1988, though, so they must have had news at some point before the station imploded at the start of the 90s and went dark. Channel 30 was still WLBM, a semi-satellite of WLBT, so they probably had the newscast from Jackson. This sure isn't that. Edit: Here's another WTZH news segment — confirming it's them! (Ignore the video description) It's tagged "Action Sports 24", so their news must have been called "Action News". (It does seem like this was the title for their news operation at the time)

The KJCT clip has the KXLY 1983 theme for the headline bed/promo and the KLTV 1985 theme for the actual second of open.
-
The channel with the WTOK clips had this and they can't identify where it came from. No other Meridian station would have had a newscast at this time?

WSOC in 1999...

That's two new pieces of music for KTVX. One is Take a Look, and then...there's Bellavia (which is maybe just background music for that promo thingy). If not that, it's the early-mid 70s theme which could very well have been used when the station was still KCPX-TV. EDIT: I think the Take a Look open is from 1980 or earlier. KTVX did not have a 6:00 show in 1981.

Somehow I've never seen this KEYC close from 1983. Dig the "12" logo with the shape of Minnesota in the negative space!
-
The KOMU 1982 update is from a theme the NMSA lists as "You've Got a Friend Mid-Missouri". The 1979 theme is super cool and trippy!

KDBC in December 1992, with the squares graphics and a LONG CLOSE from the KCBS-WNEV-WVTM-KDBC theme! EDIT: Here's *another* KDBC newscast from later in the month — 15 minute newscast and part of their Sunday sports show. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7ppl_PqPGA

The bed in that second clip sounds like it accompanied their news theme of the era, especially the last few seconds. Interesting to hear this very early John Young (the first opens with Hello also used him). His work for another Atlanta client—Turner—was far more notable and what landed him national interest. He would remain based in Atlanta until moving his VO business to Nashville (where he'd been a radio personality at one point in the 60s) in 2009. On 440int (a massive list of people that were in radio), Young is quoted as saying... "When Ted Turner grabbed me to do his promo voice and TV work for TBS/TNT/CNN while in Atlanta, it changed it all; they seduced me from radio but opened doors with many opportunities; working harder than ever but loving every minute."

That WAGA open set is the only open set I know of outside of KTVK that used Almost Casey Kasem™. Come to think of it, KTVK has had a lot of presentation and other connections to Atlanta stations over the years. It used the Hayes/Mike Byrne theme for the Outlet stations (NMSA WAGA 1977). There's the voiceover. Then there's WGCL which in the early 2000s picked up David Miller for music (leading to the poorly conceived Atlanta's NewsChannel package — listening to it now, the composer is obvious). The biggest connection was when Jack Sander, who once ran WAGA and then Belo's TV division, was the name on the license.

KCBD in December 1995: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=6kMjAhtv2aQ;t=1741 What was KATV thinking with this set? From 1982. (Found another clip of this that...wasn't exactly as new as it seemed.)

KXLY in December 1989. This theme is new! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=g3_Fk3-LQGM;t=743 The SLC stuff is great! Hoping for more, especially early-mid 90s!

They used to have in the early 2000s an annoying "I Love My Diamondbacks" theme that they used in commercials. It's *still* stuck in my head. The 10 years of Diamondbacks baseball helped keep KTVK relevant even as its news operation sometimes made you wonder. Fox Sports Arizona had the other half of the games and became the full-time carrier because the Diamondbacks didn't want to bother with OTA TV any longer (and most likely KTVK could not or was not willing to match the Fox Sports deal).
