  1. Seems like the 7-10am hours of GDLA are definitely built around Michaela. Reminds me of the old GDNY with Jim Ryan. Jim would steer the ship while tossing to his counterparts in the studio/field and conducting in studio interviews. I only watched the first block this morning. Michaela obviously knows the market, after her years at KTLA. Seemed like a breath of fresh air since the show didn't really have an identity after the sudden firing of Steve Edwards. Curious to see how the new format evolves. I buried the lead here, though! They finally got new music!!!
  2. Not sure if other LA stations were clamoring, but it is no secret that KTTV has languished in the mornings for years. To take a popular talent from their direct competition (KTLA) and bring them on to their morning show speaks to them trying to change their fortunes in the ratings department. Don't forget KTTV recently acquired Stu Mundel from KCBS/KCAL. Stu was their popular nightside chopper reporter known for his animated coverage of police pursuits. KTTV is making moves to be competitive. Not sure if KTLA wanted Michaela back. The morning A team they have now with Frank, Jessica, Mark and Sam works well for them. When Michaela left KTLA, I was one of the doubters on Jessica being able to fit the news anchor role well as she was previously the PM weather caster with the late Hal Fishman and then moved on to AM entertainment/features reporter. She has definitely earned my respect. She does a good job in the anchor seat.
  3. KTTV is out for blood with the Michaela hire. That is a huge get! I'm a KTLA guy, but I give a tip of the hat to KTTV. KTLA better tighten things up, they have been #1 for years, but I feel sometimes their talent and formula is mailing it in I guess some could argue that "if it aint broke don't fix it..." Not a big fan of the new anchor lineup though. It seems like it is a temporary situation until someone's contract runs out. They should to the traditional 4-6 or 4-7am parings and the 7am-10am pairings. KTLA and WGN have always affectionately referred to those teams as the A team and the B team. I REALLY hope they lose that lame and outdated GDLA theme music at some point. The new FOX O&O theme is strong enough to be used on all KTTV dayparts.
  4. Sister station KTLA runs the Morning News block from 4a-11am. Then another news block from 11am-12pm under the Morning News banner with the afternoon anchors, plus news at 1pm and 3pm. Its been successful for them, but yes, it is overkill.
  5. Congrats to Pam on the promotion! I don't envision any changes to ABC7s news product. Their product is very formulaic. They stick to what has worked and they rarely deviate from it.
  6. Myrka Dellanos Loynáz, for the old school Primer Impacto fans out there! You know...the ones that couldn't change the change the channel until Walter Mercado came on and told everyone their horoscope!
  7. Found the CBS News video via the link below. The talent is KCBS/KCAL weekend anchor Sara Donchey. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qZSkjfepUSI
  8. Back in the day when I was a young news junkie, I used to write (yes, this was before email) to talent at stations in my local market (Los Angeles). They were all very gracious and would send autographed head shots and scripts from previous newscasts (I liked to see what exactly their scripts looked like). I wrote to Laura Diaz when she was at KABC if it would be possible to get a Circle 7 pin. She basically insinuated it would take an act of God LOL. Also, in one of the recent KABC Eyewitness News anniversary videos on YouTube, I believe it was Ellen Leyva who said that the Circle 7 pins are under management's lock and key.
  9. I'm assuming he will be used cross-functionally across all NBC News platforms (Network, MS, etc). Would like to see what they do with him long term. Nice get for CNBC, definitely counter-programming to the FOX Business Network.
  10. Just my 2 cents here.... -I would assume Danny would take over for Dallas when his retirement comes. Danny was the main weathercaster at KCOP and he also spent a little time at KNBC. Danny's been most successful at KABC. I'd like to see Leslie Lopez get it, IMO. Local girl (Chino) who is a true weather nerd. I think Brianna is being groomed for bigger things. She does morning traffic and WX for the 11am show. -Re: Jovana anchoring at 4pm. Doesn't necessarily make it a long day. My guess is that she and Phillip get in around 9am/9:30, if they are out the door by 6pm, that is a decent work day. -Lets not forget that Coleen (one "L") Sullivan anchors the 7pm news on KDOC with David Ono as well. She might be a placeholder as well for when Michelle or Ellen decide to hang it up. Fun fact- along with Danny Romero, Ellen Leyva spent time at KCOP as well.
  11. My guess is that Rudabeh (come back to LA) is going to Nexstar's News Nation. There was another article in FTVLive last week that mentioned News Nation would possibly have a Miami bureau. That might be where she ends up. I was never a fan of Rudabeh's anchoring here in LA on KABC weekend mornings., but she did great as a GA reporter the other three days a week.
  12. I'm sure it has been discussed before, but WOW!! WNBCs news studio is tiny (no pun intended).
  13. Low key Tegna vibes.
  14. Anyone got link of the WCBS 11pm with Pat? Looks like Pat was able to toss to the WCBS reporters in the field. If you were a casual TV news watcher, I'd assume one couldn't tell any difference.
  15. ...also, let us not forget the legendary "Fred'll Show It To You" sports bumper as well. If you take a look at the 4pm news from KNBC that was posted today, you can here a decent length of it at 25:04
  16. AirchiveSloan is a legend! So is the KNBC jazzy close. Those bumper cuts are legendary as well. Awesome work here! This made my day. The 4pm and 5pm news is also on his site as well. Love how "anchor heavy" LA was at the time. Different teams for all shows....John/Linda 4pm, Colleen (still there at 5pm) and Jess at 5, Keith/Kelly at 6pm and Keith/Kelly at 11pm. The good ol days.
  17. Yup. Definitely some "ABCNEWS NEW YORK" vibes there from the Peter Jennings era.
  18. Interesting that vestiges of the Peter Jennings era dating back to 1986 were still in TV3. Would have loved to have seen some of those set pieces, technology, etc.
  19. Things like this are what make the KTLA Morning News so popular. They keep it real. I may have an issue if it was on the 6pm or 10pm news, but I see no problem here. Southern California baseball fans are upset. Today, GMA, CBSTM...would this be OK? No. We are going to be bitter about this for quite sometime...
  20. Ch Ch Changes? Testing things out? Don't want to enter speculation territory, but is it a possibility?
  21. Lets say the reporter does a back to back live shot...from KRON to WIVB. Would Buffalo viewers even notice that the mic flags weren't switched out?
  22. FTV suggests the change was due to slipping ratings. Haven't seen any numbers from November. KTLA seems to be status quo, most likely leading the pack. CBS2s morning show is unwatchable. Today in LA isn't much better. GDLA is a mashup of many different things. I would surmise KVEA and KMEX are decent contenders in the morning...advantage going to KVEA.
  23. My guess would be something dealing with the homeless crisis here in CA. NBC4 has an ongoing "Streets Of Shame" series highlighting the homeless epidemic in our state. Phillip has been on the KABC dawn patrol since the late 90s. He anchored with Ellen Leyva (now co-anchors at 3pm, 4pm and 6pm) back then. Underrated anchor, does a great job. Based on his Twitter account, it sounds like KABC is going with an all female morning team...anchors Leslie Sykes (used to anchor KABC weekends back in the day), Brandi Hitt, Leslie Lopez on weather and Brianna Ruffalo. I assume Brianna will be reporting traffic, and keeping her weekend morning wx gig.
  24. Scott is a one man operation. I know there isn't any excuse for his grammar and spelling errors, but his reporting is usually spot on. Much more reliable than NewsBlues, which is a shell of its former self from the late 90s/early aughts.
