Mark returned this morning and explained his complications and recovery. Glad he is back. Frank was off and it was only fitting that one of the other KTLA Morning News OGs, Eric Spillman, was present for his return. https://www.instagram.com/reel/DH_N03jiGHM/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

Today in LA- Lynette and Adrian 11am- Annabelle Sedano 3pm- Annabelle Sedano 4p/5p/6p- Colleen Williams and Michael Brownlee 7pm- Colleen Williams 11pm- Carolyn Johnson Weekend Today in LA- Michelle Valles Weekend Evenings- Kathy Vara and Jonathan Gonzales I believe they have also made some weather changes as well. I don't see Melissa Magee on at 11pm, it is now David Biggar. Carolyn will fill in on earlier shows as needed. I assume as Carolyn's health improves, she will pick up an additional show. Before her medical leave, she co-anchored at 4p and 6p.

Sorry if this was already discussed. Do we know what happens with the old building? Will it be razed or repurposed for something else?

The 11am hour of GDLA is called GDLA+. I would just called it Fox11News+ Primetime to keep consistency. The + distinction lets viewers know its on KCOP since the News13/my13 News branding died years ago.

They never learn. I remember when the now 5pm news launched. It was originally called Studio 11 LA.

The anchor lineup is incorrect. I know its been a mess lately, but there are 6pm promos featuring Michael and Colleen. Robert Kovacik is one of their top street reporters. 11a and 3p- Annabelle 4, 5, 6- Colleen/Michael 7- Colleen 11- Carolyn. She may take on another show as her health improves. She has been filling in on earlier shows this week and last as Colleen is off. Colleen is almost 70. She has anchored the 11pm since Kelly Lange stepped down from that show in the mid-late 90s. I think her getting off the 11pm is one step towards her eventual retirement.

Per FTV, KTLA has hired KTTVs Melvin Robert (GDLA 6a-9a co-anchor) to replace the legendary Sam Rubin.

Per her Instagram (@CarolynNBCLA) Carolyn Johnson has succesfully completed multiple rounds of chemo and returning to the anchor desk this week. The post says that she will start with the 11pm. Not sure how long the arrangement will be or if it is a slow ramp up for her to get her work stamina back as she used to anchor the 4pm and 6pm. Colleen Williams has anchored the 11pm at KNBC for nearly 30yrs. Could also be an effort to cut back Colleen's work load and start the push towards retirement.

DCA American Airlines 5342/Blackhawk Copter Crash
FiveNews replied to nathannah's topic in General TV
Been streaming the Wichita stations since the flight originated from there. KAKE and KWCH are providing solid coverage. -
She just finished a stint at KTLA as the weekend sports anchor. Glad to see her get closer to her husband. She was a solid hire at KTLA.

Do we know how large scale breaking news events will be handled? Will Maurice and John both show up and lead the coverage in tandem? Will they solo anchor for a few hours then pass the torch?

Once again, all LA stations are wall to wall with coverage of the Hughes Fire. The fire is burning in Castaic on the northern end of LA County, north of Valencia/Magic Mountain. So far, 5k acres burned, 19k under evac orders. Winds are a factor as well.

Looks like a re-purposed weather nook.

Also noticed this as I was listening on the iHeart app. I live in SoCal and wanted to stay on top of developments. The stream on iHeart would go down for several hours before coming back.

Let me be clear: the most important thing is broadcasting up to the minute information to keep the community safe. With that said I do have a few questions... Most if not all LA stations have been on the air wall to wall since Tuesday morning without any breaks. How does that impact the studio equipment? Curious if there will need to be updates to monitors, cameras etc when this is all under control. Especially for a high use studio like KTLA. We will never know, but I'd like to know how much money is lost due to stations not broadcasting commercials. Again, in the grand scheme of things (lives lost, keeping people safe) it isn't important, but I know it is something that will be looked at by station management.

All stations are/were wall to wall. It's pretty bad out here right now. I'm in the Inland Empire area of SoCal and the winds haven't been this bad in years. I was in Riverside this afternoon when the Palisades fire broke out. Turned my iHeart app on KTLA who started breaking coverage at that time. Got home (I usually WFH) around 1pm and all stations were in rolling coverage. Thus far, all stations are definitely serving the public. Coverage has been top notch. Grades, ratings don't matter when lives are in danger, but KTLA and KNBC have been top notch.

Looks like she is doing double duty at FOX and KTLA according to her IG. Not sure what the plan is to replace Derrin Horton. I like David Pingalore as well.

For the first time since the mid 1990s, KTTV is hosting local Rose Parade coverage. KTTV main anchors Christine Devine and Elex Michaelson will lead Fox11s coverage. It will be interesting to see how Fox11 differentiates themselves from perrenial parade coverage leader KTLA. https://www.foxla.com/news/rose-parade-2025-pasadena-how-to-watch-what-to-know

I think we are conflating the two. It's not that an anchor can't bother to anchor an additional hour, it's how the talent's contract is wrtitten. If Liz has a contract that says she anchors X show and fills in X amount of times, the station has to adhere to that legal agreement. All parties signed off on that. Additionally, each year we revisit the topic of anchors being off on the holidays. Just let the tenured anchor live and enjoy time with their loved ones. On the flip side, let's be OK with the green talent getting a few at bats so they can hone their craft. The topic doesn't need to be revisited annually.

Yes, it is done from a picturesque section in the KTLA parking structure that faces DTLA. They will use this location if the flashcam in the newsroom and their NewsCenter are being used. Reporters tag out with "reporting live in Hollywood...." but the keen viewer knows it is in their parking lot.

KCBS 2/KCAL 9 - CBS Los Angeles News Thread
FiveNews replied to Roadrunner's topic in Los Angeles News
They've been airing tributes all evening at the top of their newscasts. -
KTLA doesn't have a 2pm news. They have a 1pm and 3pm. KCAL had a 2pm years ago and it was very popular, anchored by Mia Lee. It was basically the car chase newscast since that's all that was happening at that hour for the most part.

After suffering a mild stroke over Memorial Day weekend, KTLAs legendary morning weatherman Mark Kriski returns tomorrow morning. He will ease into his duties….only doing 7-9am. He usually does 7-11am. This is a welcome return since Mark had his stroke shortly after Sam Rubin’s passing. https://ktla.com/morning-news/mark-kriski-announces-his-return-to-the-ktla-5-morning-news/
