  1. I'm sure it has been discussed before, but WOW!! WNBCs news studio is tiny (no pun intended).
  2. Low key Tegna vibes.
  3. Michael Gargiulo*
  4. Anyone got link of the WCBS 11pm with Pat? Looks like Pat was able to toss to the WCBS reporters in the field. If you were a casual TV news watcher, I'd assume one couldn't tell any difference.
  5. ...also, let us not forget the legendary "Fred'll Show It To You" sports bumper as well. If you take a look at the 4pm news from KNBC that was posted today, you can here a decent length of it at 25:04
  6. AirchiveSloan is a legend! So is the KNBC jazzy close. Those bumper cuts are legendary as well. Awesome work here! This made my day. The 4pm and 5pm news is also on his site as well. Love how "anchor heavy" LA was at the time. Different teams for all shows....John/Linda 4pm, Colleen (still there at 5pm) and Jess at 5, Keith/Kelly at 6pm and Keith/Kelly at 11pm. The good ol days.
  7. Yup. Definitely some "ABCNEWS NEW YORK" vibes there from the Peter Jennings era.
  8. Interesting that vestiges of the Peter Jennings era dating back to 1986 were still in TV3. Would have loved to have seen some of those set pieces, technology, etc.
  9. Things like this are what make the KTLA Morning News so popular. They keep it real. I may have an issue if it was on the 6pm or 10pm news, but I see no problem here. Southern California baseball fans are upset. Today, GMA, CBSTM...would this be OK? No. We are going to be bitter about this for quite sometime...
  10. Ch Ch Changes? Testing things out? Don't want to enter speculation territory, but is it a possibility?
  11. Lets say the reporter does a back to back live shot...from KRON to WIVB. Would Buffalo viewers even notice that the mic flags weren't switched out?
  12. FTV suggests the change was due to slipping ratings. Haven't seen any numbers from November. KTLA seems to be status quo, most likely leading the pack. CBS2s morning show is unwatchable. Today in LA isn't much better. GDLA is a mashup of many different things. I would surmise KVEA and KMEX are decent contenders in the morning...advantage going to KVEA.
  13. My guess would be something dealing with the homeless crisis here in CA. NBC4 has an ongoing "Streets Of Shame" series highlighting the homeless epidemic in our state. Phillip has been on the KABC dawn patrol since the late 90s. He anchored with Ellen Leyva (now co-anchors at 3pm, 4pm and 6pm) back then. Underrated anchor, does a great job. Based on his Twitter account, it sounds like KABC is going with an all female morning team...anchors Leslie Sykes (used to anchor KABC weekends back in the day), Brandi Hitt, Leslie Lopez on weather and Brianna Ruffalo. I assume Brianna will be reporting traffic, and keeping her weekend morning wx gig.
  14. Scott is a one man operation. I know there isn't any excuse for his grammar and spelling errors, but his reporting is usually spot on. Much more reliable than NewsBlues, which is a shell of its former self from the late 90s/early aughts.
  15. Not sure if I would call it groundbreaking. It looks like the 4pm was somewhat normalized by this time. If you go search for more videos with this 4pm set, the groundbreaking part was how the 4pm desk was extremely low. You were able to see pretty much what the anchors were wearing. I included a quick link of a that shows what I am talking about below
  16. Heart attacks are silent killers. She may have looked fine on the outside, but you never know what is going on inside.
  17. I don't think KTLA is getting beat by KCAL. It would have to be a cold day in hell for that to happen. They boast being #1 from 4-12pm. #1 at 1pm (no other local news). #1 at 3pm (competition with KABC's 30min show) and #1 at 10pm (competition with KTTV and KCAL). Their only other time slots where they aren't #1 would be 6pm and 11pm. KABC and KVEA I would assume are top dogs there.
  18. The 4 English stations didn't do anything wrong. Telemundo's #1 status just shows that the demographics in DFW and other markets are shifting. Hispanics are the dominant demographic and it is showing in markets across the country....Miami, NYC, LA, Houston, Dallas, etc etc.
  19. Your analogy of World Cup soccer and TV news makes zero sense. Telemundo 39 is #1 in Dallas because of the growing Hispanic population. It's the same here in LA, KVEA is usually at the top of the heap due to demographics. When you watch soccer in Spanish, you get the gist of the game just by watching the action on the field. That comparison does not happen with TV news. You need context and you need to be able to understand the language to get the true background on what is being reported.
  20. CBS' The Morning Program from 1987. The show is pretty terrible. I can see why it was cancelled after nearly 11 months.
  21. One of the blacks at the station?? Not sure what point you were trying to make. African Americans (the preferred term...not *blacks*), by nature don't have straight hair.
  22. ...meanwhile...the sun will continue to rise and WPVI will be the king of the Philly market.
  23. Same thing going on at KCBS/KCAL Los Angeles. Main Anchor Pat Harvey posted on her Instagram (@patharveynews) that she was out celebrating the retirement of several longtime KCBS/KCAL staffers. One of those is political reporter Dave Bryan. Dave had been with KCAL for 25yrs. I believe his retirement was planned months in advance, but I'm sure the CBS cuts help speed up the process.
  24. I know its like assuming WBBM or KYW will shutdown their news departments, but is it plausible for CNN US to just go away? I travel extensively, and I really like CNN International's coverage. CNN International should be the REAL CNN. I know the days of Judy Woodruff, Bernie Shaw, Lou Waters and Bobbie Battista will never return, CNNI would definitely be a strong second in my book.
  25. They're doing the same thing out here in Southern California. Like the Tri-State area, Southern California is expansive. I think that these community journalists are a good idea. I consider them an embedded journalist. KABC has two that I have seen, one covering the Silverlake/Echo Park area and another covering East Los Angeles. I am sure there are more. You can see what they are all about on their IG at @abc7sophie and @abc7eric
