  1. Kind of an odd decision, I really wish they’d stop tweaking with the line up and allow some stability. Few things I take issue with in the article: 1. CTM isn’t as silly as the competition on ABC, NBC but the show is far from “hard news.” This lineup change and the move to MTV’s studios will definitely be a notable shift from the show’s launch. 2. GMA’s studios haven’t really utilized the Times Square location for some time imo. Home base faces inward, the couch space (when used) faced the southern end of the set away from MTVs, and after introducing the upstairs audience seating they rarely ventured outside for anything.
  2. And despite Lori being a really nice and genuine broadcaster, Sade is much more polished in her presenting style. I don’t remember Lori being as woeful reading the news at channel 7 as she is at 5. It must be something in the air at Fox.
  3. Weekend GMA anchor Dan Harris announced his departure from the network this morning. Last day is 2 months from now. One wonders if this is a natural spot for Phil Lipof to assume?
  4. CBS 2 Chicago has had 4 pm news before? I can’t seem to remember that at all but definitely welcome the investment in the station’s operations.
  5. While Katie and Matt were a great duo, Today’s best pair in my opinion were Matt and Meredith. The way they played off on one another and weren’t afraid to take it a little more risqué in the morning was fun to watch (maybe less so following Matt’s inappropriate BTS behavior).
  6. Hoda and Craig are actually still in Tokyo. Al and Savannah back in Studio 1A.
  7. That’s odd though this year’s Today at the Olympics has left much to be desired compared to past year’s (obviously COVID is playing a part in this).
  8. I agree to an extent. Commenting how sad a story is or how tragic an event might be is one thing, it’s a whole different thing to add editorial comments to stories dealing with Trump and others like him (despite how accurate his commentary is). His comments last week following a story about an Asian NYPD officer beating criminals already in custody because they hurled racial slurs prompted me to ask. After reading the story Bill adds “as a NYPD officer he knows better and that’s something that he shouldn’t be doing.” It’s like yeah I don’t disagree but I feel like the reporter, the NYPD’s comments and common sense make that very clear without you having to add in your thoughts. Again, I agree with him and we’re likely politically aligned but as nynewslover mentioned above, Bill never comments similarly when involving a left-leaning subject matter and likely wouldn’t be around much longer if he did.
  9. ^ yeah his comments always tend to be politically or socially charged. It’s not even that I disagree with his sentiments, it’s just not really his place to be sharing on the 11 pm news. NONE of the others on channel 7 do it.
  10. As mentioned, I’m a rather newcomer to NYC but how is Bill Ritter able to get away with his editorial comments during the news? It’s fine to have your say on social media but this man isn’t shy about adding his own commentary to the actual news in obvious ad-libs.
  11. Rita Garcia? Not my first, second, third or twentieth choice to be honest.
  12. I’ve lived in NYC for about a year now but damn it’s going to be odd not seeing ABC’s presence on the UWS.
  13. I think that more than anything industry trends have led to the low numbers. The days of Today averaging 6.5 M viewers were also the days when primetime shows were pulling in 20-30 M viewers and that hasn’t been the case for close to 10 years now. To a lesser extent, I believe (and hope) that the low numbers are a response to how bad GMA and Today are these days. It’s just complete trash watching the first 2 hours of both.
  14. You’re right. I also just saw Bill’s post from yesterday. Seems like there are several legitimate concerns amongst the WABC anchors about the vaccines and virus to this day.
  15. Maria Taylor is out at ESPN and heading for NBC where she could start as soon as this Friday on Olympics coverage.
  16. Adds an interesting layer to their decision to remain socially distanced. Best to be safe.
  17. And Liz is back from vacation this week so this now makes even less sense.
  18. One has to wonder if these promos were rush ordered by the network because what would be the sense in initially skipping over the 4pm news? I haven’t seen WABC running the promo outside of that first instance but the Chicago update looks much better.
  19. I think WABCs seating arrangements are simply still following a station mandated protocol. Their studio is still covered up to prevent people from gathering to watch which was a COVID protocol put into place last year.
  20. Ha yeah that one. Now admittedly I’m being a nitpick, but it also seems disjointed to create a promo using the wrong talent. Liz is away and Bill is anchoring solo at 6 so why include Sade who doesn’t appear outside of 5 and 11 pm? Again, it’s small but odd things like this are rather common for WABC and it’s starting to get…sloppy?
  21. Is anyone else seeing the promo of the 6pm, WNT and Jeopardy block that advertises Bill and Sade as the 6 pm team?
  22. KTLA has really created one of the most outstanding news products and teams in the country. If I recall, Barbara Beck didn’t appear for the 25th anniversary special either right?
  23. What if we just wait on an announcement instead of taking wild and unfounded guesses every newscast?
  24. I’ve always admired Bret Baier, Martha MacCallum, Bill Hemmer and Chris Wallace for what was a earnest attempt at balanced reporting. As of late they’re starting to show their stripes by entertaining “the steal” conspiracy. Interestingly KDFW often (or at least used to) remind viewers that they’re separate from the FNC.
  25. Is KTLA on a temporary set this morning or are my eyes deceiving me? Edit: they’re not, just an extremely close shot of Lynette and Eric who are also sitting really close to one another.
