  1. ^ if you think about it GMA, Today and The Early Show each had heavy wood toned sets back then. Today, the sets are much more modern looking because that’s what’s in. Times change. I personally liked when the set was flipped with the windows behind home base. The show could use a retooling certainly but I’m not sure all the criticisms are fair. GMA is really good at what it does and keep in mind that since it’s inception in 1975 it was always geared to be the more informal / entertainment geared morning option. For the first 20 years they anchored from a living room set and was hosted by actors.
  2. A lot of these criticisms are not unique to GMA only, most modern day morning television has become a glorified infomercial all across the globe. The first 45 mins of the show is really still quite great and packed with load of news though. The set is atrocious and I’d really like to see Michael dumped from the program. Times Square is prime real estate but it’s hardly been used since they introduced the indoor studio audience upstairs.
  3. Looks nice but also very local news.
  4. Sure Ginger did her first half hour weather hits from outside but other than that they typically don’t do much outside especially since introducing a studio audience on the second floor. About 1.5 years ago they reconfigured the set to eliminate the windows behind home base (on-air). Even the soft set is based in front of large monitor walls. And walking near the studio in Midtown they have only one window not plastered up to see inside the studio. If not for the “Live in Times Square” in the intro, one could be confused as to where the show is filmed.
  5. Could CTM be moving to Times Square? Talks are just that at this point but apparently CBS liked having the show broadcast from its Viacom studios in Times Square for the election. I say go for it since GMA hardly uses the exterior of Times Square in any form on camera anymore. https://variety.com/2020/tv/news/cbs-this-morning-times-square-tv-news-1234848704/
  6. I enjoy them being on the ground floor but you’re right the set does clash and just seems like a hodge podge of pieces placed together. I don’t remember the older iterations of this very similar set being this bad though.
  7. GMA’s Christmas decorations on set look atrocious this year.
  8. GMA3: What You Need to Know is performing stronger than I would have imagined. They averaged nearly 2 million viewers during election week and have been averaging around 1.7 million viewers regularly according to ABC.
  9. NBC has boarded up Studio 1A a number of times this year. Considering nearly every other window front attraction in Midtown Manhattan was similarly boarded up, I’d say they are just taking precautions. During the George Floyd protests they did a similar set up and because the studio would look odd with boarded up windows behind them, they altered the set to sit in front of the large screen.
  10. Barbara has dementia? Wow, I hadn’t heard that but it might explain why we have no seen her at all in any capacity since retiring.
  11. Nah disagree. No need to remember or celebrate a serial rapist and harasser ever.
  12. Today is not reluctant to remove personalities from their history as we’ve already seen on a number of occasions. I imagine Matt will not be involved at all in any Today history moving forward. I mean he and Meredith don’t even speak anymore following the allegations, I don’t see how they awkwardly put him in a room full of colleagues that have testified against him.
  13. In the 80s ABC and CBS had no headlines or tease, they just jumped right in to the news with the first break coming at about 6-7 mins. I wonder if ABC is experimenting with some of that as some nights the A-block can run for 18 minutes or so.
  14. I’ve been watching more CNN over the last week with the crazy state of our nation at this time. Gotta say, the coverage is ridiculous no matter how deserved it might be. It’s become the trump news network and it’s beyond ridiculous how much time they dedicate to every single word he says.
  15. Robin Roberts is back in the studio as of today. First time since March.
  16. So is David’s role solely to anchor WNT AND 20/20? George led this morning coverage of RBG’s service and Tom Llamas is anchoring the Breyona Taylor special coverage this afternoon. Lester is on NBC.
  17. Nothing about this line up makes sense. Michaela is strong and popular in LA, but this move is the equivalent of if KTLA hired Dorothy Lucey or Steve Edwards. So much time has passed that it likely wouldn’t make a difference.
  18. This is fantastic. I’ve watched more GMA this year than I have in several years, so I’m not sure how often Amy and TJ were paired before but their dynamic throughout much of this year has been awesome. That said, TJ is good with nearly everyone he’s paired with going back to his CNN days.
  19. And we certainly don’t need to rehash every week in between.
  20. Weekend GMA is still in TS. Here’s to hoping they’ll stay put permanently from the iconic studio.
  21. This is odd. Departures happen but three long tenured personalities in the matter of weeks is unusual without something else at play.
  22. The nearly 20 minute A-block has been in place since the start of COVID-19 at least.
