  1. Is this another infamous KSHB "retirement" or is he actually retiring? Either way, I've heard really good things about him, but he simply failed at turning that station around. Granted Scripps played a huge role in that with The Next, but Bracco just couldn't make up for it. Their ND will likely be gone next.
  2. Keep in mind though that they're (still?) unveiling the new package to the former Journal stations. I remember saying some time ago that I was a bit disappointed they didn't just commission a new package, because the package is already 4.5 years old for their original stations, with the new ones having it for a year or less. Why build a new package after you just rolled out your current one to several of your stations barely a year ago?
  3. Long time KSHB reporter Lisa Benson is suing KSHB for racial discrimination citing that her race is used as a determination of where she is assigned. http://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2017/1/24/reporter-files-race-discrimination-suit-against-scripps-station
  4. You know who I'm surprised hasn't gotten the boot yet? KSHB GM Brian Bracco.
  5. KSHB is launching a public service campaign called "Kind KC" to help address the violence problem Kansas City has had this year. http://www.adweek.com/tvspy/kshb-wants-a-kind-kc-in-2017/183122 It's an interesting idea and will be interesting to see how it turns out.
  6. Also in KC, KSHB sports director Frank Boal and the nightside EP apparently got into a bad enough fight in the newsroom that the EP was fired. http://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2016/12/15/after-incident-executive-producer-is-pushed-out-in-kc
  7. Rumor has it that Gary Amble of KCTV has been re-promoted to chief meteorologist after being demoted to weekday mornings over a decade ago. In the meanwhile, Chris Suchan, the now apparently former chief, may have either been demoted to weekends or let go. Such a shame, because he was quite well-liked in the city.
  8. They've likely been pondering this for quite some time already. As it stands now, there probably isn't anyone with NBC News that could.
  9. Hasn't it been established that Matt had nothing to do with her firing? NBC has stated publicly that they love Matt and will let him stay around for however long he wants. It also wouldn't be a good PR move because then it just looks like them saving face........several years after the fact. All that will do is rekindle a fire.
  10. I didn't think it really warranted its own thread, so I thought I'd put it here. Who knows, maybe it'll lead to shakeups later. Anyway, MSNBC is now rating lower than Hallmark Channel. http://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2016/11/17/msnbc-ratings-fall-behind-the-hallmark-channel
  11. KMGH GM Brad Remington will be leaving. He surely could have waited until after sweeps to announce this. Sounds like he and corporate didn't get along too well. http://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2016/11/17/gm-out-in-denver
  12. Prays that this means the end of The Now Realizes that it's a false hope Learn the new guy loves digital crap so he'll probably try to turn the stations into broadcasted websites Cries
  13. This reminds me of that one time many years ago when Cynthia Newsome of KSHB got tazed for a story. That will seem tame compared to if this dude gets shot for a story. It's gonna leave one hell of a bruise.
  14. That would seem like more of a ND and producer problem for continually allowing those types of stories to air.
  15. Surprised no one mentioned that Scripps is now in a hiring freeze and new hires at certain stations must get corporate approval first. Probably part of the reason why WCPO has so many unfilled positions. But with all that money Scripps has saved from their in-house syndicated programming, they should be rolling in the dough, right?
  16. KSHB has hired Kevin Holmes from WJCL as The Now KC co-anchor.
  17. Which just adds to the oddity of the situation. Unless they just haven't gone public with everything yet.
  18. It looks like KCTV as silently outed Chris Suchan as their chief meteorologist and replaced him with John Wetherbee. http://www.kctv5.com/story/5771715/john-wetherbee-chief-meteorologist The bio on the website seems to be a direct copy-paste of his old bio from WTOC. Suchan is still working for KCTV and his posting on his Facebook. Really weird.
  19. KCTV chief meteorologist Chris Suchan updated his social media profile today removing "chief" from his title; it's now just "Meteorologist Chris Suchan". Station website also doesn't list him as chief anymore either, but he's still listed online.
  20. They're not THAT bad. The talent opens are the most personalized things these stations get with this central package. None of them are the exact same. Besides, I think the subtle transition elements (like the clouds for weather and cars for traffic) was clever.
  21. I hope the "Storm Shield Weather" branding doesn't spread to all of the stations. Not a fan of it.
  22. Surprised no one has mentioned how this is, in some ways, effectively the old Today Show open. I'm more focused trying to wrap my mind around how complicated and time-consuming it was to create that open in such detail, as well as the render time. yeesh.
  23. Robb Finnerty is leaving KCTV after only a year. Unknown where he's headed to next. That's their second weekday morning male co-anchor in about 3 years. http://www.adweek.com/tvspy/rob-finnerty-leaving-kctv-after-a-year/179359
  24. Looks like JD Rudd and his wife Alyson Bruner are leaving KSHB for WEWS in Cleveland. Rudd will be their weekday morning met. KSHB has hired (surprisingly already) Gerard Jebaily from WPDE in Myrtle Beach, SC.
  25. JD Rudd will be leaving KSHB it seems. Pretty bad loss for them too. JD is easily one of the best in the market.
