  1. KMGH GM Brad Remington will be leaving. He surely could have waited until after sweeps to announce this. Sounds like he and corporate didn't get along too well. http://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2016/11/17/gm-out-in-denver
  2. Prays that this means the end of The Now Realizes that it's a false hope Learn the new guy loves digital crap so he'll probably try to turn the stations into broadcasted websites Cries
  3. This reminds me of that one time many years ago when Cynthia Newsome of KSHB got tazed for a story. That will seem tame compared to if this dude gets shot for a story. It's gonna leave one hell of a bruise.
  4. That would seem like more of a ND and producer problem for continually allowing those types of stories to air.
  5. Surprised no one mentioned that Scripps is now in a hiring freeze and new hires at certain stations must get corporate approval first. Probably part of the reason why WCPO has so many unfilled positions. But with all that money Scripps has saved from their in-house syndicated programming, they should be rolling in the dough, right?
  6. KSHB has hired Kevin Holmes from WJCL as The Now KC co-anchor.
  7. Which just adds to the oddity of the situation. Unless they just haven't gone public with everything yet.
  8. It looks like KCTV as silently outed Chris Suchan as their chief meteorologist and replaced him with John Wetherbee. http://www.kctv5.com/story/5771715/john-wetherbee-chief-meteorologist The bio on the website seems to be a direct copy-paste of his old bio from WTOC. Suchan is still working for KCTV and his posting on his Facebook. Really weird.
  9. KCTV chief meteorologist Chris Suchan updated his social media profile today removing "chief" from his title; it's now just "Meteorologist Chris Suchan". Station website also doesn't list him as chief anymore either, but he's still listed online.
  10. They're not THAT bad. The talent opens are the most personalized things these stations get with this central package. None of them are the exact same. Besides, I think the subtle transition elements (like the clouds for weather and cars for traffic) was clever.
  11. I hope the "Storm Shield Weather" branding doesn't spread to all of the stations. Not a fan of it.
  12. Robb Finnerty is leaving KCTV after only a year. Unknown where he's headed to next. That's their second weekday morning male co-anchor in about 3 years. http://www.adweek.com/tvspy/rob-finnerty-leaving-kctv-after-a-year/179359
  13. Looks like JD Rudd and his wife Alyson Bruner are leaving KSHB for WEWS in Cleveland. Rudd will be their weekday morning met. KSHB has hired (surprisingly already) Gerard Jebaily from WPDE in Myrtle Beach, SC.
  14. JD Rudd will be leaving KSHB it seems. Pretty bad loss for them too. JD is easily one of the best in the market.
  15. Fine, but's not certainly success, either. WTMJ is the first I've heard of it actually seeing a ratings increase since its inception. Kansas City viewers don't like it, as the Now plunged KSHB from first to last at 5 and 6pm and they haven't recovered since. There were rumors at one point that KSHB was going to be allowed to scrap the show or move it to another time. Though to be fair, I guess, KSHB was one of the guinea pig stations (the other being KMGH), having it before anyone else.
  16. Now about "The Now" period. I'm surprised it's still around, despite it's overall failure.
  17. "News 5 Cleveland" is sort of clunky to say, almost like a tongue twister. It's also weird seeing "News 5 ___" and not "News 4 ___". Kinda like someone on the interwebs saying "that was 5ever ago" in place of "4ever." Also on a sort of related note, KSHB seems to have changed its slogan from "Kansas City's Breaking News Leader" to "Clear Complete Coverage." It's basically a return to their 2007ish-era slogan of "Complete Coverage." The L3 box and new promos show the change.
  18. Does anyone else think Hayes comes off as an arrogant try-hard? He acts like he's a young guy (he's only 37!) that knows he's made it big on cable news with his own show and like he's the next thing since Cronkite. Hell he's had his own show since he was only 32. Seems like he's had a very very very lucky career.
  19. Wow! Do you know anything more about her departure? That's awfully sudden. She's always seemed like a really nice lady. She had a cool and calm demeanor about her on the desk.
  20. I said next month, but if you want a specific date then September 12.
  21. KSHB will be moving The List to sister station KMCI in favor of a traditional 6:30pm newscast next month. The new newscast will surely rate better than The List.
  22. The "BN/WL" slogan was bad to start off with. It worked fine a few years ago when they were almost number 1 and actually were on top of breaking news pretty well, but their slogan is so impersonal. Fox 4 is "Working For You" which they've had for decades. KCTV is now "Stands For Kansas City" which is great. KMBC is "Coverage You Can Count On" which is generic, but still personal. "BNL" isn't any of those things. if it's really "Clear, Complete Coverage" then it's better and a throw back to like, 2007.
  23. A station could easily be an affiliate of the most watched network but be least watched in their market due to a variety of reasons, such as poor management, another station having a history of dominance, and etc.
  24. KCTV has hired former WIVB news director Scott Levy. It'll be their third news director in about as many years. http://www.ftvlive.com/todays-news/2016/8/2/buffalo-news-director-headed-to-kc Levy was the one who accidentally made staff notes and criticisms public. http://www.adweek.com/tvspy/wivb-news-directors-criticism-of-staff-goes-public/170449
  25. Holy crap...and her birthday is today too. That makes it even sadder.
