  1. Fine, but's not certainly success, either. WTMJ is the first I've heard of it actually seeing a ratings increase since its inception. Kansas City viewers don't like it, as the Now plunged KSHB from first to last at 5 and 6pm and they haven't recovered since. There were rumors at one point that KSHB was going to be allowed to scrap the show or move it to another time. Though to be fair, I guess, KSHB was one of the guinea pig stations (the other being KMGH), having it before anyone else.
  2. Now about "The Now" period. I'm surprised it's still around, despite it's overall failure.
  3. "News 5 Cleveland" is sort of clunky to say, almost like a tongue twister. It's also weird seeing "News 5 ___" and not "News 4 ___". Kinda like someone on the interwebs saying "that was 5ever ago" in place of "4ever." Also on a sort of related note, KSHB seems to have changed its slogan from "Kansas City's Breaking News Leader" to "Clear Complete Coverage." It's basically a return to their 2007ish-era slogan of "Complete Coverage." The L3 box and new promos show the change.
  4. Does anyone else think Hayes comes off as an arrogant try-hard? He acts like he's a young guy (he's only 37!) that knows he's made it big on cable news with his own show and like he's the next thing since Cronkite. Hell he's had his own show since he was only 32. Seems like he's had a very very very lucky career.
  5. Wow! Do you know anything more about her departure? That's awfully sudden. She's always seemed like a really nice lady. She had a cool and calm demeanor about her on the desk.
  6. I said next month, but if you want a specific date then September 12.
  7. KSHB will be moving The List to sister station KMCI in favor of a traditional 6:30pm newscast next month. The new newscast will surely rate better than The List.
  8. The "BN/WL" slogan was bad to start off with. It worked fine a few years ago when they were almost number 1 and actually were on top of breaking news pretty well, but their slogan is so impersonal. Fox 4 is "Working For You" which they've had for decades. KCTV is now "Stands For Kansas City" which is great. KMBC is "Coverage You Can Count On" which is generic, but still personal. "BNL" isn't any of those things. if it's really "Clear, Complete Coverage" then it's better and a throw back to like, 2007.
  9. A station could easily be an affiliate of the most watched network but be least watched in their market due to a variety of reasons, such as poor management, another station having a history of dominance, and etc.
  10. KCTV has hired former WIVB news director Scott Levy. It'll be their third news director in about as many years. http://www.ftvlive.com/todays-news/2016/8/2/buffalo-news-director-headed-to-kc Levy was the one who accidentally made staff notes and criticisms public. http://www.adweek.com/tvspy/wivb-news-directors-criticism-of-staff-goes-public/170449
  11. Holy crap...and her birthday is today too. That makes it even sadder.
  12. How has that affected your ratings?
  13. KSHB Creative Services Director was arrested on July 4th for domestic battery, but the show went on without him for a promo shoot they recently had. Unlikely KSHB will report it, but it's likely a new position will open up over there.. http://www.ftvlive.com/todays-news/2016/7/8/scripps-creative-services-director-busted-for-domestic-battery
  14. Missouri? What would they have been doing in Missouri? Otherwise I agree with you. Report on what's happening, but don't meddle in it to the point of compromising law enforcement activity that's to genuinely benefit the public.
  15. In a weird move, Topeka's KSNT news director Al Carl is moving to WISH-TV to serve in the same position. I haven't heard particularly glowing reviews of the man.
  16. Hi, this is the FCC. We need to take back your broadcast license for that comment.
  17. I don't think Scripps would let anyone buy them...they're too ambitious of a company with too much history.
  18. The continual bleeding that is KSHB continues. It seems that traffic reporter Kacie McDonnell will be leaving the station soon given a posting for traffic reporter online. This is just days after Kalee Dionne announced she was moving to Chicago to join WMAQ. I wonder if there will be a change in management soon. The turnover there the past few years has been ridiculous, and the ratings haven't improved.
  19. Well the trend definitely seems to be only having a few mega-broadcast corporations. I'm curious to see how this turns out and if Nexstar will have bitten off more than it can true. Operating nearly 100 newsrooms seems like a gargantuan task and some stations are going to be either forgotten about or placed way low on the totem pole, which is highly unfortunate.
  20. So let me get this straight, Nexstar owns so many stations that their acquisition of Media General to get even more stations will put them over the limit for the number of stations a company can own, so they'll have to sell stations in order to acquire MG in order to get more stations in the end?
  21. Probably just sits there, purely for decoration. It most likely doesn't actually operate anything. Just a big fancy gear mech.
  22. She'll be working weekday mornings
  23. Lol of course she's leaving. She was half the reason their morning show was on the up and up. It's a far better gig for her though. But geez...Lindsey Anderson, her replacement, has only been out of school for three years? KSHB can do better than that.
  24. KSHB did something similar. Spoiler alert: it didn't help. at all.
  25. Too bad Andy what's his name is working to bring the two networks together and end the apparent discord the two have had for years.
