6 News, a local cable news operation in Lawrence, KS, will be shutting down its operations after 45 years. Minnesota cable company Midco is expanding their Midco Sports Network into the market and ending 6 News. Lawrence is technically in the Topeka DMA but receives signals from both Topeka and Kansas City, so both markets cover them equally. A very sad day indeed. https://www.6lawrence.com/6lawrence/index.php/2017/05/16/midco-sn-expands-lawrence-6-news-operations-end/

Well there's part of the problem.

Some one had said that Mike Collier was probably going to go to KJRH and they were right. He's their new chief. http://www.adweek.com/tvspy/mike-collier-named-kjrh-chief-meteorologist/189658 Did we ever learn what happened to Brett Anthony though?
-
This would surely be dismissed. The station should have looked into them more, something you'd expect for a news gathering organization.

Today's theme in TV news seems to be "say inappropriate things regarding race." First the reporter referring to herself as the n-word, now this.
-
Reporter Pro-tip: DO NOT call yourself the N-word or imply that you're calling a viewer/potential witness the N-word when trying to get information from said viewer for a story! http://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2017/4/28/seriously-what-the-hell-are-you-thinking

Detroit is a sh!tty place to live?

Getting out while she can so she doesn't have to be associated with that disaster
-
Over/Under on how long this lasts before it fails and bets on how disastrous the ratings will be?

Is KJRH looking for a new chief met? I see that there's an opening for one. Brett Anthony hasn't been there for very long.

Scripps has hired WKRN GM Steve Watt to take over KSHB. That was a very quick search. KSHB's former GM Bracco only announced his retirement last month. https://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2017/4/3/scripps-names-new-gm

Man that's cruel. Like, I read the entire thing and saw what he was getting at towards the end, but evidently it never clicked in my head. April Fools jokes on March 31st should be illegal.

Megyn Kelly will anchor Weekend Today tomorrow morning, followed by the Sunday edition of Nightly News. Soft launch to get people used to her face on the rainbow peacock channel.
-
Let's be real, at this rate, the Queen really won't die until 2126.
-
Is this another infamous KSHB "retirement" or is he actually retiring? Either way, I've heard really good things about him, but he simply failed at turning that station around. Granted Scripps played a huge role in that with The Next, but Bracco just couldn't make up for it. Their ND will likely be gone next.

Keep in mind though that they're (still?) unveiling the new package to the former Journal stations. I remember saying some time ago that I was a bit disappointed they didn't just commission a new package, because the package is already 4.5 years old for their original stations, with the new ones having it for a year or less. Why build a new package after you just rolled out your current one to several of your stations barely a year ago?

Long time KSHB reporter Lisa Benson is suing KSHB for racial discrimination citing that her race is used as a determination of where she is assigned. http://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2017/1/24/reporter-files-race-discrimination-suit-against-scripps-station

You know who I'm surprised hasn't gotten the boot yet? KSHB GM Brian Bracco.

KSHB is launching a public service campaign called "Kind KC" to help address the violence problem Kansas City has had this year. http://www.adweek.com/tvspy/kshb-wants-a-kind-kc-in-2017/183122 It's an interesting idea and will be interesting to see how it turns out.

Also in KC, KSHB sports director Frank Boal and the nightside EP apparently got into a bad enough fight in the newsroom that the EP was fired. http://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2016/12/15/after-incident-executive-producer-is-pushed-out-in-kc

Rumor has it that Gary Amble of KCTV has been re-promoted to chief meteorologist after being demoted to weekday mornings over a decade ago. In the meanwhile, Chris Suchan, the now apparently former chief, may have either been demoted to weekends or let go. Such a shame, because he was quite well-liked in the city.
-
They've likely been pondering this for quite some time already. As it stands now, there probably isn't anyone with NBC News that could.
-
Hasn't it been established that Matt had nothing to do with her firing? NBC has stated publicly that they love Matt and will let him stay around for however long he wants. It also wouldn't be a good PR move because then it just looks like them saving face........several years after the fact. All that will do is rekindle a fire.

I didn't think it really warranted its own thread, so I thought I'd put it here. Who knows, maybe it'll lead to shakeups later. Anyway, MSNBC is now rating lower than Hallmark Channel. http://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2016/11/17/msnbc-ratings-fall-behind-the-hallmark-channel
