  1. WDAF celebrates 70 years of broadcasting today.
  2. It's not unlikely the WKYC rebrand was many months in the making and it was going to be easier to see it to fruition than completely scrap everything. They likely had spent good money to see the rebrand through. Go out with a bang and see if this one sticks.
  3. Before they expanded it was always interesting how widely used the "Action News" brand was in Scripps. I always wondered how so many of them came to use it.
  4. It seems like a weird cross of the Tonight Show and View. If Jay is the only host, what is Hollie doing there? She's in the entire show. I give them props for creating something unique with the open and show title. "Lunch Break" isn't a bad name for a midday show at all. The glare on the monitor array needs to be fixed ASAP. Although it's only the first show and changes will have to be made, it still seems doomed to fail.
  5. An American attempt at being European. If you feel the need to air a package about how your new look will work, it's probably too complicated. Or you think your viewers are total idiots. As a nitpick: you can have a logo that emphasizes the "all encompass" of WKYC and seem a little more inspired than that.
  6. WHAS has an entire podcast series on mysterious unsolved murders in a community in their viewing area.
  7. Slow your roll there partner.
  8. Yes Hello? Tegna called.
  9. John Cessarich is leaving WYFF after nearly 30 years and will be replaced by Chris Justus who has been there for the last 7 years.
  10. Possibly? As the years have gone by it seems like Scripps stations have been allowed some form of individual creative freedom because the look certainly isn't has cohesive as it once was. To entertain you, it makes me wonder if they're considering pulling a Nexstar and having a unique look for each affiliate. I suggest that because, again, that topical is reminiscent of World News Tonight.
  11. But...tickers are inherently flat...and the "whole mess" on the left is something that would probably be called "layers." You can have layers of something and it still be flat. The light is effectively lip gloss. If you think that's "about as non-flat as you can get," then what does that make WPTV's 2009 look? 5D?
  12. Apparently, Apollo approached Tegna about a sale of some sort (either buying or selling to Tegna) and Tegna has been shrugging them off. Apollo is being persistent. https://www.wsj.com/articles/apollo-approached-tegna-about-a-sale-earlier-this-year-11565985568 It's the WSJ so there may be a paywall. Tegna's stock surged 11% in the last 4 minutes of trading Friday after the news was made public.
  13. Across between Tegna and Hearst would be nice. How have none of you noticed the resemblance to World News Tonight? That's what I first thought of.
  14. Not just the text, but some of the animations are clunky as well. I'm specifically talking about the end of the open when their logos pop forward and begin to spin back. There are a couple awkward pauses that don't need to be there. It just doesn't look completely finished.
  15. KLKN has announced a new general manager. Kern Dant will replace Roger Moody who has been with the station since 1997 (KLKN signed on in 1996) and is a member of the Nebraska Broadcasters Hall of Famw. Kern Dant's father was the first GM in '96. https://tvnewscheck.com/article/237671/kern-dant-named-general-manager-of-klkn/ The Standard Media sale, by the way, is expected to be completed early September.
  16. Lubbock seems like too small a market to have that kind of in-house lifestyle program, and that talent bump was way too long. Cool, I see them...oh, I still see them.
  17. "Now" seems to be a recent branding strategy by Gray. KOLN in Lincoln is 10/11 NOW. That's a bit...redundant. Or are they saying 16 News is now live whereas before it was pre-recorded?
  18. Apparently KSHB has lost its ND, GM, and EP within the span of about two months.
  19. The studio looks phenomenal lit up like that. The open is probably the worst thing of all. Repeating shots showing nothing but the logo is small market. It's also uninspiring. The first couple seconds with the eye were promising, then...nothing.
  20. WMC looks like a cousin to the Scripps look (I swear the Scripps V2 continues to inspire new looks today). I disagree with using the morning cut of iNERGY for the evening news.
  21. Some stations are reaallllly picky with who they want to hire and will keep a search open until they find exactly (or close enough to) what they want. That, or they're just insanely slow at filling positions. Sometimes a spot opens but other things kept taking over priority and it takes forever to fill.
  22. Is the cut from the open to the anchors really THAT abrupt? Was there an edit in the video? I refuse to believe it cut that hard.
  23. I'm just happy the 7-day is a full 7 day and not a 5 day with 2 extra days stacked on top one another. That said, the free floating text for the weather headers has got to stop.
  24. "Around" meaning +/- (usually +) 2 or 3 months. Perhaps February sweeps 2020.
