  1. I actually really like that open. Music cut is a bit odd. Their logo is also nice. Otherwise, I see Look F in the first couple seconds when their slogan pops up.
  2. God that was painful to watch. The first 15 seconds seemed like a poor spoof of a rap video or a slam poetry reading in some late night coffee shop. Then he's holding his script (?) on game show-sized cards like he's the host. He walks out onto set and starts talking like Dr. Phil or something. He also seems, no offense, a bit old to be doing a BuzzFeed/Snapchat-esque news show. It's crap like this that no one like watching local news anymore, then they wonder why these new formats result in plunging ratings. All of these things make The Now look better and better.
  3. Has this been mentioned yet? Interesting situation in Nashville. http://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2017/9/24/nashville-station-helps-cops-in-hostage-situation
  4. Lol, why? So they can drop to fourth place in the mornings?
  5. That studio is arguably better than Today's main.
  6. Cable station 6 News in Lawrence, KS formally shut down its news operations today. It had been a staple in the community for 45 years. All of its shows will be preserved and kept at a museum at the University of Kansas. The station was bought my Minnesota -based Midco last year/early this year and was told a few months ago that they would be shutting down its news operations and transform the station into a regional sports network.
  7. Does this EW Scripps purchase mean all of their stations will carry at least one of these networks? What does it mean for the non-Scripps stations that have one of these networks on their subchannels?
  8. Isn't KJRH's new news director and some EP from KOTV? If so, then it's pretty clear what's happening here. New management is being petty and spiteful against KOTV and is trying to hurt them. I don't know if these recent decisions are so much of an attempt to help KJRH as it is an attempt to hurt KOTV.
  9. How bad has their morning show been that they felt the need to unceremoniously can both of them at the same time?
  10. How were some stations, especially some of the original Scripps stations, get out of running it? There were rumors a long time ago KSHB was trying to axe it because it absolutely murdered their 5 and 6pm shows, but they're still airing it. They were one of the two test stations for it as well.
  11. Evidently KSHB has gotten a drone and named it "Sky Hawk," which plays off of their helicopter named "Sky Tracker."
  12. Here's what's sillier - Citadel only owns two full powered stations. 2 full powered stations, and they have standardized graphics, music, and even sets.
  13. There are some good elements to it, it's just really uninspired. Basically the same slate from different angles. What I was more focused on is the video explaining everything itself. Was it an actual story that aired or something for his reel? How did an anchor even get involved in creating the new package? If it was done in house, it's pretty good.
  14. Forgot he left KSHB. I agree that he needs work, but I won't miss him. I never really thought he was that good. His presentation and the way he carries himself is odd. Speaking of KSHB, they've had a ton of turnover (again) recently. They simply cannot get people to stay. I think their news director needs to go if they want to fix that problem. I've heard she puts down employees and tells them what they're doing wrong far more often than she does encouraging them or telling them things they did well with their work.
  15. Well at this point we'll just have to hope Sinclair ends up similar to the big banks during the Great Recession and becomes "too big to fail" and fails.
  16. you live to have fun, don't you?
  17. Has anyone mentioned Citadel Communication's knock off of Hearts' graphics? This look is weird because everything is italicized and there is little weight to any of the font.
  18. I think the issue people are having here is the fact that it's a sponsorship specifically for breaking news, which depending on the event can mean they have a sponsor for mass destruction and death. It just doesn't look good.
  19. Just imagine it. OPEN: "From WRIC, this is Breaking News, sponsored by Tronfeld West & Durrett." ANCHOR: "Good evening everyone, we have a major breaking news story sponsored by Tronfeld West and Durrett. A school bus carrying 45 elementary school children has just driven into an incinerator and exploded at Nasty Filth garbage dump in Richmond. All lives have been lost. If you are a parent or guardian of one of the children on the bus, our breaking news sponsors at Tronfeld West & Durrett highly encourage you to contact them to discuss what actions you can take next."
  20. WTLV fined for using EAS tones in a station promotion for multiple days. Featuring FTVLive, here's the link Scott Jones provided. http://jacksonville.com/metro/business/2017-05-30/jacksonville-s-wtlv-tv-12-owner-fined-use-emergency-alert-tones-jaguars After watching the promo, wow. How stupid could you be to think this was a good idea?
  21. Eh, seems more like KMBC going with what the market is doing. KSHB has been using cold opens for many months now. I don't know what WDAF and KCTV do, but I'm more inclined to believe it's them following KSHB's lead. Less open = more news.
  22. Lisa Teachman is leaving Kansas City's KCTV for a chief meteorologist job in Wichita. While it hasn't been officially announced, it surely has to be KSNW given that Dave Freeman has just retired. http://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2017/5/26/out-the-door-in-kc Before KCTV, Teachman was at KMBC for a number of years.
  23. Is it possible "ripped off" looks are actually requested to be used by other networks/stations? Meaning isn't it at all possible TVA/LCN asked CNN for their package and all they did was recolor it and change a few other things?
  24. Do they have "breaking news" in the L3 enough times?
