I agree with your description of Rachel. She seems like she should be reporting from the red carpet, not anchoring on GMA.
-
Its not like she is a foreign affairs correspondent, she does light news (the news that pops) etc... she doesn't need to be as serious as Martha Raddatz.
-
He did a very good job, he even interviewed someone. Michele and Rob will debut next week, Michele will be in for Ken this week.
-
I didn't think of him at first, but I wouldn't be surprised if he becomes permanent.
-
I would be great if it wasn't but yeah, probably is...

Looks like GMA is back after a slight lull in ratings... http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/headlines/2014/01/gma-is-1-for-the-week-in-total-viewers-and-both-key-demos/ “GMA” Bests “Today” by 1.12 Million Viewers- Marking the Largest Total Viewer Lead Over “Today” in 20 Years

CBS This morning tied the Today Show last week in Total Viewers. http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/headlines/2014/01/gma-is-1-for-the-week-in-total-viewers-and-both-key-demos/

His first day anchoring will be the 18th.

Erika Tarentel is leaving WNBC to go to Boston. Final broadcast is tonight at 11pm. My guess is after Rob and Sibila joined weekdays, she said "I have no future at WNBC" and went and found an opportunity elsewhere. I don't blame her if thats why. My guess is either Contessa or Gus take her spot.

So in other words, its everyone's personal opinion. Because I respect WN and think it is a quality broadcast. You can disagree, thats fine, I can agree to disagree, but the ratings say it all. WN is doing very well. If it wasn't a good broadcast, people would not be watching it. If you want all hard news, there is a broadcast for that, if you want a 60 minutes style newscast, there is a broadcast for that, if you want news effecting your life and family, there is broadcast for that. Why should we only have hard news as an option? Because thats what the 6:30 EST half hour is "supposed to be?" All I am saying is there is nothing wrong with "WN" and just because it isn't hard news all the time doesn't mean it isn't respected. If you wait until the end of every ABC news program, it says "ABC News, America's #1 News Source." So they are supposed to throw away years of brand recognition because the main focus of the show isn't world news anymore? They would be very stupid to do that.

Based on the ratings, its a rather respectable broadcast now. And I understand that people on this site dislike WN because it is lighter than the others but that doesn't make WN or Diane Sawyer "bad." They get to the news and then offer helpful and interesting stories. Its not like they are interviewing the Kardashians on WN. And that is good because then there would not be a huge change and it wouldn't change viewing habits as much. And also by that article, on days that George fills in, the ratings decline which does not happen with David. And this is also important to keep in mind. But I wouldn't consider it George's broadcast next automatically.
-
On another note, I find this interesting and frankly agree with Diane. http://www.showbizspy.com/article/263712/diane-sawyer-stops-george-stephanopoulos-from-taking-over-world-news.html ABC is in a very interesting time, Robin just signed (I guess Ginger did too), Josh and Lara are negotiating and George is up next year.

WPVI and WUVP are going to be sharing news content. Probably to get ahead of now NBC owned Philly Telemundo. http://www.mediabistro.com/tvspy/philadelphia-stations-to-share-news-content_b111541

Thats my guess, I think he did some freelancing at EWN last year for 2 or 3 weeks.

If it was an anchor new to NY, I might agree but Diana is one of NY's most known and loved anchors and Diana and Sade are 100% NY. I think the days are gone (or at least few and far between) that two women can not anchor the late news. And if there is one thing we know about WABC, its that they are not afraid to be different. Going back to what I was saying though, if Diana wants to do the 11, she would replace Bill (whenever he leaves) on the 11. The question is does she want to and if the past says anything, no, she doesn't want to.
-
My guess is, with the opportunity (when Bill leaves) they will try to minimize the amount of teams they have (ala KABC). Even going from 4 teams to 3 helps lower the marketing budget. There is no reason that they would't except that she doesn't want to do the 11. The only way Ken goes is if they are no longer #1 or if he wants to leave. For now, I don't think so. Anything they could do with Rob, they would have been very happen to do with Phil.
-
Agreed. There is no indication that we will soon but when Bill Ritter retires, I'd like David to replace Bill at 6 and Rob to replace Bill at 11. Then you have... Liz and David at 4&6 Diana and Sade at 5 Sade and Rob at 11 That's assuming Diana still doesn't want to do the 11. - On another note, I don't like whomever is doing these voice overs.
-
I personally like Tracy. I would like to see (in my ideal world) Tracy stays AM and 11am updates, Phil takes all evening newscasts, Mike does weekend evenings and Troy does weekend mornings. Will this happen, absolutely not. I wouldn't be surprised to see Mike take over 5, 6 and 10, Phil takes the 4 and Tracy stays AM, Troy does weekend mornings or evenings and they get someone for opposite weekend newscasts. Also wouldn't be surprised if WLS got some kind of time warning that Jerry plans on retiring and they are figuring out how to replace him before he does.
-
At 11 they want to get right to the news, not take the extra time to run a talent open.
-
Its nice that they finally covered it, but they were not on the air when it really mattered the most. If they are wondering why they are doing horrible in the ratings, maybe its because when people need them the most, they are late or aren't even there.

The Holiday Promos have begun to air today.

Phil has posted on Twitter his last day is the 8th.

Rob Powers anchoring this morning. Heather is not doing green screen traffic today, instead sitting in the newsroom. Hope she is alright.

The 6pm team had a little fun with Rob Powers tonight... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G8DW2cz6rRE

I have to say, I don't fly JetBlue but Dave Barger is a good man. As is David Neelman for that matter. (Aviation = My life, lol)
