There had been times in the past even a 30% (high) risk wouldn't keep TWC live.
-
Likely would be a WGCL satellite for the NW corner of the market. (If Gray acquired a station in Chattanooga such as WRCB, they could shoehorn it on there too...)

The Ever-Evolving Gray Graphics Situation...Thread
GoldenShine9 replied to NEOMatrix's topic in Graphics
I'd assume once those stations are done, they will slowly work on the ex-Quincy stations. -
With the peak severe weather season coming, Fox Weather will have its big chance to show its strength. It's clear that severe weather is a big weakness for TWC.
-
Unless WAND comes up on the market, they have no pathway there.

CBS O&Os Adopting "First Alert Weather" Branding
GoldenShine9 replied to Georgie56's topic in The Weather Lab
There are no Gray markets where CBS has a news-operating O&O. As a result, I'm guessing they paid Gray royalties for it. That trademarking is likely why quite a few Gray legacy stations adopted the brand AFTER they took over the Raycom stations. In the case of the Hearst stations mentioned that are changing it, that is likely to get away from the branding. Gray and Hearst have overlapping news-producing stations in 10 markets. -
Standard General to acquire Tegna for $8.6 Billion

That would be a non-starter and likely could sink the deal.- 433 replies

WSAV is still 2nd in ratings in the market, or has WJCL passed them? (I know WTOC is far ahead of both of them)

CBS O&Os Adopting "First Alert Weather" Branding
GoldenShine9 replied to Georgie56's topic in The Weather Lab
I know Raycom used it for almost all their stations, and then once sold to Gray, they adopted it more for the then-Gray legacy stations as well. For some reason, CBS O&O's have a Gray-like feel to them. -
Fox Weather should go out and promote the fact that they are always there. I know TWC tends to treat severe weather as a secondary thought, especially at night or on weekends.
-
It definitely appears that Fox Weather does a lot better during severe weather events, especially on weekends. They are willing to run 24/7 where TWC fails miserably.

The old Meredith website template is extinct as the last three stations - WNEM, KVVU and WALA - now have the Gray template.
-
KCTV, WSMV and WHNS now have the new template.
-
The ex-Meredith stations appear to have all got the Gray template on their websites today. Edit: KMOV, KPHO, KPTV, WFSB, WGCL and WGGB have. KCTV, KVVU, WALA, WHNS and WNEM have not yet.
-
That would likely be a WBRC satellite, as that is on the fringe of the coverage area.
-
I wonder if we will know more about the firing.
-
I didn't hear about that! I figured Fox would be the least likely of the networks to unload the O&O's. And with a Tegna purchase, that would be an impossible candidate.

Standard General to acquire Tegna for $8.6 Billion
GoldenShine9 replied to dman748's topic in General TV
I'm staying out of the hypotheticals, at least in this thread (any such belongs in Speculatron). This is, however, a terrible deal for all parties. For those at any stations involving these parties, it is a good time to update resumes. There will likely be a lot of carnage afterward.- 433 replies

Standard General to acquire Tegna for $8.6 Billion
GoldenShine9 replied to dman748's topic in General TV
Correct, that should on its own be a black eye. At a minimum, they need to divest (to an independent buyer) the markets that both are in - namely Atlanta, Charlotte, Jacksonville, Memphis and Seattle - to an independent buyer not already in those markets. This has Sinclair-Tribune written all over it.- 433 replies

Standard General to acquire Tegna for $8.6 Billion
GoldenShine9 replied to dman748's topic in General TV
This whole thing looks like something that will not stand up. First, there is no way they will be allowed to control 2 top-4 stations in several markets - nor control both Cox and TEGNA. I think some of the stations in markets that both companies are in will have to be sold to other companies like Scripps or Gray. It also appears it will still be called TEGNA after the deal is complete though.- 433 replies

At first when I saw that name, I thought they were buying WRAL in Raleigh...

I wonder if they will also keep the Tegna name? Regardless, hedge fund owners are always bad news.- 3678 replies

I'm guessing the previous syndication contracts last until next summer. They likely won't move to the new Gray stations until next fall.
