That should make it clear that the Quincy and Meredith stations will probably get the Gray legacy station template. A few more: KAUZ, KOLD, KEYC.

It basically gives Tegna full control of the market. -
Jackson, TN? They don't have a station there. Bahakel (WBBJ) would be a tough purchase too as they conflict everywhere else. Also Clarksdale is in the Greenville, MS market? Unless they are buying WABG and company, that makes no sense too.

Has WDHN added weekend news yet? I know for the longest time they had no such news, giving WTVY a monopoly there. -

Were any big names laid off? I know high-level news positions don't come along very often (i.e. News Director, Evening Anchor, Chief Meteorologist). -

The WTVY graphics look identical to the current Meredith package. Collusion perhaps? -

Totally unnecessary for a company still profitable and giving out stock dividends to shareholders. We didn't see companies like Nexstar, Gray, Scripps, Hearst and the like lay anyone off... -
It would be virtually impossible. The only way I can see Nexstar with WGCL is if an owner already in the market (i.e. Cox or Tegna) acquired Meredith. Unless they are looking at another station (i.e. the CBS-owned CW station)? Of the 12 markets that Meredith is in, Nexstar is in 9 of them. That's a deal that will NEVER work.
-
I know Astrid Martinez threw all her anger out - at Meredith, not the GM or ND at the station. I wonder if she would return to WGCL under different ownership?

That was when they were desperate to run away from Soo Kim in what was seen as a hostile takeover.- 3678 replies

Some of them make real good sense, while others like KECI, KTVL and KVAL really don't make much sense. They will lose some of their coverage area and will need fill-in translators. Mountainous areas are better in VHF.
-
Those at WOIO were probably excited when Raycom went away, since they were terrible for them.
-
Also I believe WILX and WLNS are very close in ratings so there isn't a dominant force there?
-
Vidalia could just be used as satellites for nearby Gray stations - perhaps satellites of WTOC and WALB.
-
Probably making things cheaper for a company sale.

Then probably back in the spring of 2022.

Or Columbus News Now? That would be a more suitable branding. I think the DOJ would be more likely to raise a stink here. They already have the most powerful station and a second station (via SSA). They would completely dwarf their only real competition (Nexstar). One possibility I could see is that they may have to give up one of the networks over (to 3.2), similar to what happened in Hawaii.
-
That would create a monopoly in Lake Charles, even though as a low-powered station it would be completely legal.
-
WLTZ has always been a total ratings dog. 3rd in a 2-station market. WTVM has always dominated and WRBL has always been a distant second.
-
I don't believe that would be possible.
-
If those are LP's, they don't count towards the national cap. On that thought - Lake Charles is the only market in Louisiana that Nexstar is absent in. Maybe that's something they should look into?
-
They may be realizing that the WPIX move is a desperation move that likely won't work.
-
Admittedly based on the sound of that, they were literally stuck. Of the companies in buying moods, the only ones really interested in small markets are Gray and Nexstar. The latter probably was too concerned about the cap, while the former has lots of cap space but was already in the market. As a result, they had no real options.
-
I could see one unlikely scenario that preserves 2 operations: the ABC and Fox affiliations are essentially held by phantoms in the market. If someone else like Nexstar wanted to step in, they could gain the KTVA license, take those affiliations and keep things with 2 news operations?

I'm not surprised GCI sold, but I didn't expect this. Gray is going to effectively have a monopoly on news in Alaska.
