  1. Last Friday Will Lewis was filling in for both. I don't understand why Jim & Melanie don't fill in when either Rob or Wendy is off. Although Jim did fill in with Wendy on election night last week.

The fill in situations are so random and make zero sense.

  2. Glad to see WFMZ standing behind Ed while he deals with his personal challenges. One of the strengths at WFMZ is it's commitment to their team - the Family Minded Zone seems to be much more than just a tagline for this Christian-based broadcast group.

Wondering how DaVinci is handling Ed's absence from WFMZ's Accu-Weather school program.

I just can't believe that people thought he was KIDNAPPED. What is wrong with people??

And, I don't think having Berks sports coverage with someone else is at all strange. It's so far from the regular news room and there's no way they could have the same team of people cover everything, especially including video footage. Berks County is huge.

  3. Is Alexandra Hogan permanent on the noon newscast or does Eve plan on returning eventually? Why not just give it to Joy Howe?

When is Ed Hanna coming back?

Also odd is the randomness in which they utilize fill-ins.

It's so very random. Sometimes Eve and/or Jaciel is ALONE for 4 hours - though has not happened I don't think since Eve returned. Sometimes Rob or Wendy is off and they anchor alone, sometimes they have a fill-in. Makes no sense to me. I prefer them together.

  4. I've always thought Sarah was really underutilized as an anchor, but she's also a great reporter. I think maybe they realize both. I remember being upset when they brought in Tamala Edwards from nowhere to anchor the morning show with Matt O'Donnell. Sarah and Matt were a great pair! Still miss that actually.

I need to watch 6 more often again. I've gotten into a pattern of watching 69 (being from the Lehigh Valley) but it gets stale when they continue to report the same things over and over again.

  5. I'm a teacher and caught GMA one day last week during a snow day. I found Michael's presence to be annoying, and the studio audience thing towards the end just seems out of place.

Also, what has always bothered me about Michael, WHY DOESN'T HE FIX the gap in his teeth?! Drives me nuts!

  6. That's because the company that owns the station -- Maranatha Broadcasting Company, now also owns KJWP -- the area's MeTV station; so the updates can air there no problem.

No, I know that, I just thought it was interesting since KJWP has no news at all, and didn't before. Also isn't it licensed to Wilmington, DE? What a large reach they now have for the news updates

  7. I just happened to turn my TV on to METV channel 2 the other day, around 2:45 PM, and Joy and Jaciel were giving a news update from the PPL Center studio during the commercial break of whatever show was on. The backdrops behind them even used the METV logo. I thought it was really interesting.

  8. Some interesting fill-ins. Walter was in Christmas night for Jim (odd since Jim is Jewish) along with Chris in at weather for Cecily. Today Jeanette was in for Matt in the morning and she and Tamela are both in for Rick and Sarah at noon.

WOW I don't think I've ever seen Chris do anything except weekend mornings! Always thought it was a shame, because I really like his forecasts.

  9. I find it incredible how incredibly successful they have been over the years certainly considering that it seems to somewhat be a hotbed for great journalism and somehow great local ownership. I know this probably won't happen, but for whatever reason, if the station ever was on the selling block, what do you think would happen to WFMZ?

It's mostly because in the Lehigh Valley, we're often forgotten by the Philly stations unless something really dramatic or gruesome happens. So we have nowhere else to turn for local news except for the Morning Call or Express Times newspapers, the latter of which is a sad excuse for a paper.

WFMZ does a good job, but I think they could do even better and get even more hyper-local with the news. But they'd need a larger staff for that and that probably wouldn't happen.

  10. Just put in Rick and Monica. They win their hour too, are just as popular as Jim (if not up there) and the transition will be seamless.

But their reign doesn't last, do they (Especially in total viewers)?

Rick & Monica can do 6 & 11, Brian & Sharrie can pick up the 5 and nothing else will change!

  11. Saw them together tonight, as well. They work well together. I am wondering if it is just another part of getting ready for the makeover of the main studio. Also, note they moved the weekend shows to PPL as well instead of the mini-set they had been using. Additionally, with 6abc's expansion of weekend news programming they may also be trying to compete stronger with a full news team on the weekends.

I didn't think they were together at 10, but I only watched briefly. But I did notice they moved to the PPL Center. Not sure why they had ever not done the weekend evening shows there ... especially since the Saturday morning show has been done there.

I wonder how much longer we have to wait for the new set. Seems like it's been a while.

  12. WPVI has quietly debuted Action News at 5pm on Sundays, anchored by Walter and Sarah, and it is not a special edition as it is listed in the coming Sundays too.

How odd. Is 1.5 hours of news on Sunday night really necessary? I suppose it's probably cheaper than syndicated shows.

Doesn't the network usually air sports things at that time?

  13. I saw that. I dare say that I still think he has done an overall great job. As for the content of that one report, there is certainly more than one person vetting the content of a news story. If there's blame, it needs to be shared. And, from my point of view, it's certainly not as potentially heinous an ethical crime as keeping a mic and a camera on a distraught woman after she makes it vividly clear that she doesn't want to be filmed, as was the case on CNN this week.

Let's face it, when you're flying by the seat of your pants, as these folks are during times like these, fumbles happen. I'll actually argue that I haven't seen anyone really do bad work this week.

Did I miss something? What report was so controversial?

  14. Nydia Han was on during the 4PM show promoting a "Troubleshooters" consumer special which will air at 8PM tonight. Granted, the networks are running mostly reruns, but I thought it was interesting that the show was airing during prime time.

I also thought that was strange. I recorded it but have not watched yet.

  15. Bo Koltnow mentioned this morning that meteorologist Lauren Due is leaving WFMZ next week and moving to Texas. Dan Skeldon will be taking over weather duties on weekend mornings.

Maybe Jacqueline & Lauren couldn't deal with the set changes. o_O

Oh no, I like her! She recently got married, though I thought she was from around here so she must be going to another station.

I wonder who will do weekend nights? Dan Skeldon has done those a few times. I like him, he's very passionate.

  16. So around Thanksgiving they'll reveal the new set? Thank Christ! It's been too long.

Also on sweeps month too? Perfect timing.

Wait. Wasn't their 40th anniversary last year?

Yes, it was ... not sure why they said that. But the video said "in the coming weeks"
