  1. Love the new graphics ... Sorely needed! I like all the "digital" stuff of whatever text scrolls on the right side when the over the shoulder graphics are on. This is a good thing for WNT. Also I couldn't believe the amount of headline bumpers they showed -- way more than usual, right?

  2. I have to weigh in., just As an outsider, which by now, you guys know that I am. sorry for the problems. I just think shari is the wrong choice. I really don't think she's that good. She has a flat afect and gets a lot of things mixed up when she anchors. Sarah Bloomquist would have been my choice. She's been there since 2002, and is under utilized.

I agree. I'm not really that impressed by Sharrie as an anchor, but she is a good reporter.

Sarah Bloomquist is good at both but she is a GREAT reporter. While it would be nice to see her anchor more than 12 pm, I'd really miss her reports and I think it would be a loss to the newscasts if she wasn't reporting.

  3. Must say I love the professionalism Chandi Lowry brings to the weekend broadcasts. I hope WFMZ can keep her long term.

Meh, I'm not really a fan of her. I miss Karin Mallett and John Derr doing weekends together.

About the PPL Center studio, perhaps it's because they are doing repairs to the concrete in the arena (yes, only a year old). It cracked and did not cure properly due to rushed construction and the harsh winter of 2013-14.

  4. Steve Mittman is the new AM traffic reporter (if you don't know, he used to be on WAEB radio in Allentown), and Jeff Bolden seems to be back to doing PM traffic (he did traffic on WFMZ years ago ... probably at least 10). Still can't believe they said nothing about Rick Edwards leaving.

I also just noticed that Amanda Cox has moved to Charlotte, NC. It's a shame, I liked her. Ed Hanna posted that Jacqueline Thomas is taking over for her.

  5.

They have a new women Jacqueline Thomas doing the traffic reports in the mornings. She is also a meteorologist and does morning weather reports for the Accuweather Channel. In a first for WFMZ, she is doing them in front of the green screen. Jeff Bolden still does the traffic reports in the afternoon from the traffic center upstairs. I still find it a little strange that Rick Edwards didn't have any kind of farewell from WFMZ after being there almost 10 years. They always let viewers know when someone is leaving even if it is just a post on Facebook on their last day. He just disappeared and it wasn't even mentioned that he left until last month during an ask the anchors segment where it was said he was no longer at the station. Just a quick mention and they quickly moved to something else.

Wow, had no idea Rick Edwards was gone! My mother mentioned that there was a new traffic reporter and they were struggling a bit on Monday.

Matt Broderick has been absent from the noon show lately, periodically.

  6. They seem to be experimenting with fill-in anchors. In the past several weeks I've seen Will Lewis, Ryan Hughes, and just this past week Jamie Stover and today Rosa Duarte. I guess maybe they're just still short staffed since Melanie Falcon is still out on maternity leave...

  7.

Today: Matt anchored the morning with Erin. Matt anchored at noon solo. Rick anchored at 4 with Erin, at 5 with Monica, then Monica anchored at 6, Monica anchored the 10pm solo, while Rick anchored the 11. They must be really short staffed!! Also odd for channel 6 to have both Rick and Monica come in late. They should've at least had Rick with Monica at 10. I thought I saw Nydia, Sharrie, and Walter reporting. They could've used them unless they're short staffed on reporters too.

Yesterday, I saw Monica at 6 and Rick at 11, and Alicia Vitarelli was doing the noon.

Really odd that poor Erin O'Hearn had to work at 4am and 4pm today!

I think Erin O'Hearn would be a great replacement for Shirleen at 4 & 10. Although I guess that would mean she couldn't fill in in the mornings. She'd probably prefer mornings since she has at least 3 children, I think...

  8.

For some reason, they have Justin doing traffic Monday and Tuesday. Vittoria does traffic in the evening those 2 days. But then Wednesday-Friday, Vittoria does the morning news and there is no traffic for 5-6:30

Wow, they can't even find someone to do a traffic report?

  9.

So apparently Kate Bilo worked Friday 11:00PM, and then did Saturday monring, because they are so low on forecasters. I'm assuming Katie Fehlinger did Sunday AM, and Justin whatever did the weekend eveneings.

Now this is a hectic schedule as it is with only 3 meteorologists on staff, but CBS 3 really needs to act quick because Fehlinger is pregenaunt, and from the looks of it ready to pop any day. So they're on the verge of losing her for several months too

What already was a trainwreck of newscasts just got way worse! I wouldn't be surprised if they get a reporter to start giving forecasts?

  10.

I guess it's because I'm old and don't understand how ratings work these days, but what's the point of a 5AM Saturday newscast on Ch 10? Ch 3 does the same and Ch 6 starts at 5:30AM. Is there really that much of an audience that early on a weekend?

Some people do work on Saturdays.

There must be some sort of an audience ... WFMZ started a Saturday AM newscast about 2 or 3 years ago, after never having one before. It airs from 7-9AM.

  11.

. Supposedly WPVI was after Kathy Orr too when she left 10!

How interesting. I thought 6 had a policy of not grabbing up people from competing stations!

12 years ago seems to be about the time that Dave Roberts decided to scale back and Cecily Tynan went from mornings to nights...at the same time that Sally Ann Mosey seemed to disappear. I always liked her.

  12.

In Pittsburgh the lottery also changed stations and is now on WPXI.

All these stations can take these things from 6abc, but the only thing that matters they have not been able to take away for decades, the news at #1.

Chances are, people who have come to watch World News Tonight followed by Jeopardy for decades are not going to turn the channel just to watch the lottery drawing, then go back.

Does this mean the lottery numbers won't be shown on Action News anymore, or is that "general information" once the drawing happens?

  13.

Monica is great when anchoring solo. Right up there with Gardner frankly, and much better then when she is co-anchoring. Granted she is great co-anchoring too, has great chemstry with Rick, and is good at banter (except for her laugh), I just think she is even greater when anchoring solo for Jim, and now at 10:00.

Yes, I've always liked her in a different way when anchoring solo. She's really good at being serious and looking genuine serious. She and Rick are second to none though with the banter.

Monica's really great at ad libbing during breaking news, really one of the best I think.

  14.

Yeah, she really did a great job. I stayed glued to her and was fascinated.

And it does seem like I was surprised to see her at 10pm, but I was. I didn't really expect her to be on at this hour. Could you blame me?

He really did. He really knew what he was doing, and kept us all in the know with his forecasting. He was more than impressive.

And Cecily was noticeably absent? Well, I didn't watch the news that day until the Thunderstorm Warning hit, and even then I was watching 29 after 6. But still this is a shock, as she usually is at the forefront for storms, I guess.

Maybe she's on vacation, maybe something else. Who knows? Also a shock of giving Adam all the screen-time and not have another meteorologist with him too. Usually at times like this, 2 meteorologists usually appear on screen. But this is a strange, yet great turnout.

I think Cecily's on vacation, at least I'm assuming she is based on the pictures she's posted on Facebook lately!

I was glued to my TV for at least 20 straight minutes listening to him. I learned a lot!

  15.

Brian has been off for the past couple days--he's in Rome covering the Pope's Visit to America in Philadelphia.

So someone else is in his place: Monica Malpass. (I know, right??)

LOL well Monica should do something!

Anyone catch any of Adam Joseph doing the tornado warnings tonight? Wow! I tuned in around 6:05 and was glued to the TV. He did a great job, explained everything so technically but also so well so you could understand it, and held his own during various equipment problems. Jim Gardner kept throwing him the dumbest questions and he tackled them with ease. Check out all the comments on his Facebook page.
