  1. Noticed this new reporter on WPIX, Carolyn Costello. From what I've seen of her, she used to anchor and report for KTLA, and she seemed like a pretty good anchor. Hopefully PIX gives her a chance to fill in when the opportunity arises.

  2. Not sure why, but WPIX is simulcasting tonight's 5 and 10pm newscasts on Antenna TV (11.2). But it's only for tonight, and doesn't seem to be on the schedule at all tomorrow or next week. Just thought that this was kind of strange.

Here is a new promo called "Gotta Listen to Lonnie."

    https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=10152677428319024&set=vb.13539254023&type=2&theater

This seems like a failed attempt to copy WABC and "Weather and Heather" or "There goes that news van again." The only thing is, this is turning weather into entertainment where as WABC's was for the Morning Show and just general EWN.

Honestly, WCBS's weekend weather team should be the weekday one. They are professionals and true meteorologists as opposed to the entertainers that they have on the weekdays.

And don't get me started with the "are his sleeves up?" It literally makes no difference if Lonnie's sleeves are up or down, its all for entertainment and it just makes their weather department look mediocre.

In terms of weather, I have to hand it to WABC, WNBC and WNYW, they have what I think are the best weather teams in New York, ones that you can actually trust. Even WPIX has a pretty good team. WCBS could be good if Elise and Vanessa were the weekday meteorologists.

I like Lonnie and John, I just don't see them as serious weather-casters, John was great on The Couch and Lonnie would be great at hosting something too....

Thats just my opinion though... :)

THANK YOU for posting this...Agree 100% I strongly disliked this promo, does not promote their weather team at all. Lonnie and John are nothing put two people reading a prompter and making jokes. That's all. Elise and Vanessa actually understand the weather, and they can elaborate on it. Lonnie and John try, but its still not the same. They may appeal like they know what they're doing to the public, but they really don't in the weather world. I am actually studying meteorology and some of the things they say make me burst out in laughter. Actually I wish they brought back John Marshall and maybe an outsider and stuck them in either weekday or weekend spots and then had Lonnie and John do entertainment shows. No matter how they promote Lonnie and John, I am not gonna listen to them. Sorry, WCBS. But although the song is terrible and annoying, it does kinda stick in your head after hearing it...

And the fact that they even have to call Lonnie a weathercaster is just embarrassing. Of course it can be debated with some people that do have meteorological sense without a degree, but in reality, I think that people should not be allowed to tell the weather on TV until they get at least most of their meteorology degree. Just my opinion.

Correct. All newscasts will continue to air from their current studios. When something special is going on at Barclays, like a basketball game, they have a small studio there to report from rather than broadcast from the street. My guess is this will be used for some sports events with Scott reporting from Brooklyn but I have a feeling it won't be used too often.

In my opinion, rather than build this, they should be investing money to build a new main studio. It just does not look like a professional studio.

Totally agree; at least get rid of those awful pastel colors, and replace it with a darker, more interesting background or something. It looks like something that belongs on an entertainment show.

What they did tonight made no sense to me.. At 5 John Muller was in studio solo with Mr.G, as Tamsen and Scott were at the Barclays Center for the game and the royals.. Honestly they didn't both need to be there.. Then John was solo at 10:00 again. Saying Tamsen is off.. They should've given him a co anchor. It's an hour long show.. Needs two people

Agree on that standpoint too, but it seems that no one was really available. I believe Monday is Kaity's night off, so I don't think she was available to fill in. And Narmeen Chodhury and Kristina Behr, the two female anchors that were being "groomed" to be anchors were not available either; Narmeen still on maternity leave and Kristina busy with the Better Show. There are a few other reports they probably could of chose from, but there probably weren't enough to chose from. I think Ayanna Harry should be given a shot at the anchor desk, I think she'd be a good backup....I also think Magee Hickey is another possible choice...But still they should've had even Kirsten Cole or someone come in and be a second anchor. But she was probably busy as well...Also Tamsen was on the morning show discussing pictures that were taken of the royals at the Barclays, so that's why she was off at 10pm.
  5. Sorry if this sounds like a really stupid question, but is PIX fully moving to this new Brooklyn studio and leaving the old one? I believe they are still keeping their current studio as their main bureau and studio, right? Just a little confused.

Just saw the new daily promo for CBS 2 News This Morning and they had a different graphics package for the promo. It looks very similar to GMA's 3d ribbon look https://www.flickr.com/photos/80599816@N06/

Oh yeah I actually saw that the other day too and forgot to mention it on here- certainly looks very interesting. Also they have a new weather "transition" package ie. they now have custom "Eye on the storm" lower thirds and newer transitions.

  7. I think it's clearly obvious that ABC is still VERY indecisive about who they want to stick in the weekend chair. Wonder how long it will take for them to decide on a permanent anchor, or if they just stick to a rotation on the weekends.

  8.

Noticed tonight that Chris Knowles was on as a reporter - did a story on the Garner case. Is this his new assignment or his he also Wx as I see Joe Cioffi in for Craig Allen tonight.

He did weather a few days ago in the morning when Linda was off. I think they like to give Chris the AM fill-in spot since he has more of the personality for it, and Joe Cioffi the weekend fill-in spot since he has a bit of a stiffer personality. Since Linda doesn't take off all that often, they've been giving Chris a general assignment reporting spot to kinda keep him busy. I think he does more reporting during the weekends than during the week. But he'll still do weather when needed.
  9. Noticed this is the 2nd night in which PIX has extended their news past 6:00 because of the Eric Garner case. I know this has to be asked, so I will: Could this be an experiment? After all PIX is the only station without a 6pm newscast.

  10. Kaitlin Monte did traffic at 5:00pm today, wonder if she's going to be on the 5:00 pm permanently now. Not sure if they would throw her on in the evenings just for one night (the weather wasn't that bad today, it was worse last Wednesday), and they had Greg Mocker doing traffic that day. Well if they threw a traffic reporter on the 5pm permanently that would really give them an advantage over the other networks that doesn't do traffic at 5pm. Also, lots of other cities have traffic reports during their evening shows, so I think at least one station should have traffic reports (I know EWN first @4 does a short traffic update at 4:14pm).

  11.

They're doing an 8pm newscast tonight cause of the Jets game.. I think it's a great idea.. Wonder if it's a test or something?

Kinda interesting...I think they ended early if I am correct...seems like they went off the air at 8:11..I think it was mainly a recap of the day's top stories and Scott with more analysis on the Jets game. I don't think it was a full-blown newscast. They are also going to be on after the game tonight, but that probably won't happen until really late. Kinda surprised they did a newscast instead of a special edition of "Sports Desk" that they usually put on before the Jet games....

EDIT: They actually came on at 11:27. Jets game ended early.

  12.

Yes, Morris was awful paired with Ben, and she is a Juliet look alike with the short hair but with no personality (as opposed to Juliet who you either love or hate - I think she's great). Very unimpressed by Morris on Friday.

Why don't they ever allow Juliet to appear on GDNY as fill in anchor? She will work the wake-up shift and then be sent to the street to report while somebody else (e.g. Drew, Priolo or this Morris) fills in.

As stated before, I do not see Ben as morning show material where you need to be a bit looser and able to banter back and forth. Greg does it in his own awkward way which makes the show what it is..... Again while Ben seems like a nice guy, he comes across as a boring wet noodle type.

Also, I brought it up in the past, but Mike Woods seems to take many many days off..

Obviously Steve was excellent in the GDWU role (which is why he was promoted to the top spot). Antwan should have been left on GDWU/GDNY where his outgoing personality would shine.

Good point; maybe they should've had Ben anchor with Christina instead of Antwan? But I still think Antwan and Christina are great together. Ben and Juliet are OK, but not my favorite. All along I've been thinking it's Juliet that's been turning me away from GDWU, but maybe it's Ben's dry personality and I'm not realizing it. I'll have to see how Juliet does with another male co-anchor and decide from there. Haven't seen Morris fill in but based on the work I've seen from her she doesn't see like that great of an anchor.
  13.

Ben and Taresa would make a great 6pm team. I honestly don't see the format they have now lasting much longer unless sweeps results prove me wrong

Definitely agree; Ben is a great hard news anchor and Teresa deserves the promotion. The Ernie Anastos format is something that they should stick on Sundays like WABC, WPIX, and WCBS does with Diana Williams, Marvin Scott, and Dana Tyler respectively. I also noticed that Ernie Anastos still does the live teases for the 5pm show during the 3pm hour, instead of Steve or Dari.
