  1. Noticed that Marissa Torres is getting used more and more as a reporter. First she filled in for Kaitlyn, then she did a report for a sports segment, now she covered tonight's top story on the 10pm news. She seems very good.

I mentioned it about WABCs set.. But why doesn't WCBS use live shots for their backdrop? Today at 5 they had the sun setting and it was already dark out.. WNBC had a great shot of Rockerfeller Center.. WPIX had a live shot of the skyline.. Even WNYW had their night drop.. Idk why year after year Ch2 doesn't do the same

I think something along the lines of this would be great for WCBS' 5pm show, given that it's almost pitch black, but there's still a hint of sun in there. I have to say I think my favorite backdrop was WPIX's, it was a nice live camera of the skyline, and it was absolutely beautiful. It made their studio look so much better, way better than what they had when they used the view of 42nd street.

This has to be one of the best video montages I have ever seen. WABC put it together shortly after Hurricane Sandy and shared it again today on the anniversary of Sandy's landfall. It highlights beautifully the power and storytelling of the Eyewitness News enterprise and its people.

Considering that I lost power for 15 days after Sandy, this video really made me aware of what happened after Sandy as far as coverage on WABC was concerned. And I agree, it's put together beautifully. 2 years ago today was one of the weirdest days I ever experienced, that's for sure.

I just happened to be flipping channels before when WABC went on a commercial and turned to PIX for a quick second.. Mr.G was on. I've never seen anything so weird from an on air person. His jacket was in buttoned.. His tie was tucked into the front of his pants and he was holding the clip on mic. I don't know what happened or if he didn't realize it was time to go on but it was very strange. If he was that in prepared they should've given him 30 seconds to get together. It was very sloppy

He's like this ALL of the time. He's always in the middle of buttoning his shirt, fixing his mic, etc. Today at 5 I also noticed that he was holding his mic, I don't think it was clipping on well. Either way, Mr. G's presentation is always so sloppy. That's only the beginning. I can't stand how he stands in the middle of the screen, and mumbles, and barely gets the point across. He's what turns me away from PIX. Everything else is fine. I would watch their newscasts more if any other weather personality was on.
  5. Chris Knowles is now doing general assignment reports in addition to his freelance meteorology duties. He was their lead reporter this morning on the Ebola case. I guess PIX is leaning in the direction of WCBS, as they have Vanessa and Elise do general assignment reports in addition to their weekend meteorology duties.

  6.

For the longest time Cindy was doing both the weekend morning and weekend evening shows. Now Cindy just does weekend evenings, while Diane & Andrea do weekend mornings. Dick was doing both weekend morning and evenings I believe for a bit before he got the 9 pm weeknight slot on WLNY.

And I know when Don Dahler was with Cindy, he did both the mornings and the evenings, while Cindy did just the mornings. If I remember correctly, The Rob Morrison saga happened around the same time that Don left for CBS News, so WCBS became very short on male talent after that, now they only have Maurice, Dick and Chris to work with. In comparison to WABC which has Ken, David, Bill, Joe, and Rob, or WNBC, which has Michael, Rob, David, Chuck, and if you count him, Gus. I'd like to see a nice, solid male presence to make it over to WCBS, so we can balance out the females on the weekends. Never cared for the team of Diane and Andrea, would like to see either Diane with a male, or Andrea with a male. Cindy Hsu is fine by herself, but wouldn't hurt to see a male anchor there too. Just my opinion...

It looks like CBS 2's weekday morning team (Wragge, Calvi, and Elliott) will be anchoring the Sunday morning newscast tomorrow, pursuant to the following tweets from John Elliott and Chris Wragge:

@ChrisWragge: Tomorrow am!! We are hours away from a Monday @CBS2ThisMorning on SUNDAY! When 5 days aren't enough let's pick 6 @MaryCalviTV @JohnElliottTV

@JohnElliottTV: Goodnight @MaryCalviTV & @ChrisWragge See you bright and early tomorrow for a special Sunday edition of Monday's show...

This seems highly unusual. Any idea why this may be happening?

Well I know Cindy Hsu is off this weekend, as Dick Brennan anchored the news at 9 and is currently doing the news at 11. And Diane or Andrea must not of been available or something, because usually is Cindy is off, Diane or Andrea will just fill in.

Certainly will be interesting to see the weekday morning team on a Sunday. Not highly unusual to see the weeknight team on a Sunday, I've seen Maurice, Kristine, Lonnie, and Otis called in for special events on a Sunday at 11pm. Like the emmy's, or even a high ratings event, like a football game.

  8. PIX used a new kind of open tonight at 10:30, it was similar to this:

The custom theme was used, but the graphics looked more like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lMziY13BRRI

It's actually perfect, because instead of using the full open, or not using any open at all, they just use a short little open to reassure us of which program we're watching.

We'll have to watch to see if we see more changes in the coming weeks with Waldman and Carter at the helm of the ship instead of Effron. I don't think there will be any major changes until a permanent ND is hired.

Jill Nicolini announced on her FB page that she is pregnant. Wonder if Alex goes back to doing traffic while Jill is on leave?

She actually announced this on twitter on October 7th. But this is certainly interesting, if Alex does traffic, will Jill come back and will they switch spots or will she loose her job? We certainly may be taking this too far, but hey, it was certainly interesting how Alex lost her traffic job in favor of Jill. Her current role is kinda stupid as "social media reporter", except for when she does live reports. The social media trends could easily be read by the anchor, and I believe Alex only appears twice throughout the morning, instead of every 10 minutes like when she did traffic. I'm still kind of sad that Katie McGee left, she was great at both traffic, entertainment, or really anything. She added a bit of professionalism to the newscast, and Jill seems to care more about her appearance than anything (no offense to her, she's just not that professional). I think she did so well at PIX, because PIX kind of had a more laid back type morning newscast, and CBS is a lot more serious.
  10. Craig Allen just confirmed that WPIX's weekend 5pm newscast is now a full hour. He also said Jay Dow was at the desk, is Kaity still not feeling well? Edit: Kaity tweeted that she'll be back tomorrow.

It's actually only an hour on Sat. for the time being, but they could expand the 5pm on Sundays too soon. But then again, they may put the Saturday 5pm newscast back to a half hour, so we'll have to see.
  11. In that case they need a second anchor. Kaity is great but it's very dull watching a single anchor for an hour. It's not easy on the anchor person either. I say Marvin Scott.

Does anyone know what happened to former WWOR anchor Harry Martin? If they wanted to bring in someone external, he'd be perfect. And I think it was you who also thought he'd be great with Kaity. Another person who I think PIX should look at is Teresa Priolo, if FOX 5 was smarter she would be anchoring and not Dari or Juliet (and I'm not saying pair her with Kaity, I just think that they should look at her as a potential anchor in some capacity
  12. Mark Effron has finally left the building. With ratings going up and the anchor team settled in, you gotta wonder....is this the best time for fresh upheavals?

It's just the weather center that's being replaced, I checked on their channel.

Well it can't be the regular weather center, as that looks the same. I think it might just be the blue wall that was updated. I know it was replaced with a green screen (which is what most stations use) for a short time, while they were in the process of renovating the area.

    Here's a screenshot taken from tonight's 10pm newscast:

  14. Just read this from News12 LI meteorologist Samantha Augeri's facebook account:

Getting comfortable in front of our new blue weather wall. It's on the complete opposite side of the studio! The new set is just about complete.

News 12 LI isn't getting a whole new set, is it? Their current one isn't that outdated. But the way she worded it almost made me think that they were. And if they really were, they would probably have to move into the newsroom or onto a temporary set anyway, so I doubt it's a new set, probably just new equipment.
