  1. You literally just made my day...
  2. My usual comment about how cheap it is for them to say most watched in the nation still applies... it's a terrible misuse of ratings numbers...
  3. Morning reporter / weekend morning anchor Nima Schaffe is out at WXYZ in Detroit. According to what he posted on Facebook he is the 18th employee there let go in 5 months with more to come. It's a major house cleaning after a decade plus of bad news directors making poor hires (though he was good). Their newscasts are better quality under their new ND even if they don't have full staffing behind the scenes...
  4. Sunny and 55 is sort of self explanatory... I imagine the weather would be longer in a more inclement situation. Somebody figured out the traffic is the bigger deal I think. If they don't give the weather hit extra time on a nasty morning then that would be stupid...
  5. 7's push alerts aren't going so well... lots of typos and one beginning with NEW:... not exactly stellar stuff...
  6. Nia Harden joins WXYZ in Detroit as a reporter. She comes from KWTX the Gray owned CBS station in Waco, Texas.
  7. Maybe they will start using them correctly too...
  8. I'm surprised it wasn't effective immediately...
  9. He's the sports guy.... I don't know about you but I don't really expect editorial integrity from the sports guy... I can think of several guys who editorialize on air in ridiculous ways and don't get burned for it...
  10. Ultimately what he does off their air is irrelevant to their editorial standards... 7 is known to be stiff as a board in really dumb ways... exhibit A....
  11. New Facebook lower thirds... using these during a live one hour special remembering Mike Illitch...
  12. Maybe the desk will be shaped like a 32...
  13. Here's the same crowd at 1209pm from the monument side from a national park service cam... these are all the thin spots I alluded to earlier... you can't see them from the Trump side... it's too far away and the wrong angle.
  14. The best you can hope for here is a wash... Trump & co. (Mostly Spicer) claimed it to be the biggest, most watched, most attended ever... so if this is fake news (it's not, as the inauguration was far below Obama 09 and 12 and a host of others in physical attendance and behind Regan 81 and Obama 09 on TV) then that is simple propaganda. Just because you don't like the facts doesn't mean you get an alternative set to keep whatever view you like... it don't work that way... (not you specifically but Trump/Spicer/Conway)... There's been talk of a full on war with the press... other than the AP which won't get involved (which is kinda like the print version of NPR or PBS who probably won't either) I would expect lots of salvos both ways and lots of distortion both ways. I would bank on laziness rather than a sinister motive.
  15. I see at least 3 pockets of empty space in that picture...
  16. They are... 5 years is a long time without changing much of anything...
  17. It occurred to me that it might be a new design direction for them... maybe they are starting with the live bug in building a new package? It's fully flat and the package is semi flat so there's that. Their new morning promo graphics and evening feature promo graphics are fully flat like that as well.
  18. Thanks My phone wouldn't focus for that shot and I was running out of time so when it did finally focus I just hit the button... I like how there are two versions too... when they had their own package last it was always bright red in that upper left corner.
  19. She's actually pretty good...
  20. I think it's time to change the Scripps LIVE bug to a more traditional location don't you? Change occurred yesterday or today. Not bad.. flexibility is cool...
  21. Ameera David is joining WXYZ in Detroit as an Anchor/Reporter. She came over from RT where she anchored and reported. She's a Detroit native so that's why the downward move.
  22. WXYZ Meteorologist Chris Edwards is stepping down to fill in status. He joined the station in 2010 and had been at WJBK for 21 years before that. He had spent most of his tenure doing Weekend Mornings and Monday-Tuesday-Friday at Noon.
  23. Automation... a sobering thought to get you into an ever more automated new year...
