  1. I'd like it more if Yu was on the other side so we could look at the faces of all 3 anchors at once. 7 needs an ancillary desk to toss from, this is way awkward looking but so was Rons ice cold "thanks very much" from the old toss. If Alan was with Linda it would be even better, it needs work I think. Plus she's in the way of the graphic, I'd expect a lot better from them than this. There's a monitor over there at left so it can be done the other way, I like Ron but not really the side of his head.
  2. Actually the noon show will be the only regular show done from the studio, otherwise it'll be events that warrant it, like yesterday's ruling.
  3. So now in addition to those new newscast preview / feature promo graphics, Scripps has put out these for show promos: They have those little moving light thingys on the top of the L3 kind of like WLS does when there is a tab on their L3's. They also have the same design style with the different colors with one being much shorter than the other in length and the shorter color on the left side. I realize that WLS is light blue / darker blue. Not saying they are as good or anything, just that that's the closest L3 or banner design I can think of right this second. WXYZ also used it's downtown studio for the first time on Friday. 5pm anchor Jeff Vaughn was down there Live covering the Detroit bankruptcy plan being approved. Apparently it's not completely done yet but they used it anyway. Here's the first 2 minutes of their 5pm show so you can see what the studio shot will look like:
  4. ABC tends to be slow to change it's stations looks, I'm surprised it was that recent before the current package.
  5. That thing looks really un-newsy.
  6. It looks like one of those mock graphics you see in a movie with an impending disaster...
  7. I did notice that, I feel like whatever issues the first flags had were addressed in the WLS version but that they are closely related. Almost like version 1.0 and 2.0, same flags, now new and improved.
  8. So they are identical except that somebody figured out to make the WLS ones work well with the light. Got it.
  9. Anybody feel like posting a side by side comparison of the two?
  10. WDIV has expanded it's Noon news out to 1 hour effective today. This replaces paid programming which had been running for a couple months after they took off a rerun of Jeopardy!.
  11. Why would that cause alarm? I think we're past that now.
  12. Jennifer Bisram has joined WXYZ as a reporter, she came from WSVN FOX 7 in Miami. She's gonna work on the morning show. http://www.mediabistro.com/tvspy/jennifer-bisram-joins-detroits-wxyz_b131968
  13. Maybe he would. I think Jim Rose seems to still have some pep and enjoys his job (at least he projects that). So Rose would probably step into Giangrecos shoes if it came to that. I actually prefer Rose to Giangreco personally so I wouldn't mind that change.
  14. From my perspective coming from about half the market size, the idea of having a separate 4pm meteorologist is kind of puzzling. On the other hand we have a dedicated noon meteorologist here now. I suppose it varies with the station and news director as well. The multiple anchor arrangements and weather and sports arrangements certainly harkens back to better times in broadcasting.
  15. Sooner or later 7 is going to screw up, maybe this is that event. None of the other 3 vets that are there would likely be at all happy. Scott has nowhere near the expierience to do the 10. Why you would have one meteorologist do one show is beyond me. Ideally one meteorologist would do 4, 5, 6 and 10 the way so many other stations do. Not having that 11am complicates that though unless they want to drop to 4 mets from the 5 they have. The job should be Caplans. Period.
  16. My internet was slow enough that I could read it but thought I'd mention it, I hate paywalls.
  17. This will be interesting, btw, the story only appears briefly before the pay wall goes up, maybe synopses are better after all. The home page displays the first two paragraphs. Linking directly to it is virtually useless.
  18. The only trouble with that is that it has happened several times before this season that there was a risk of random pop-up storms, so if you are right and they updated it a while ago then they were probably just itching to use it. A tornado watch (and later warning) for part of the area makes a GREAT reason to use it. You trying to be a Meteorologist there J?
  19. Gotcha, I wish the radar map was bigger though and maybe in an upper corner, it looks small and cluttered in between the ticker and OTS Box.
  20. Looks nice, is this due to the severe weather in the area or is this gonna be a new daily feature?
  21. I gotcha, I wasn't sure if you did or not. Those others look decent as well.
  22. You recorded that in front of the TV... I hadn't realized that. Maybe get a tripod for like $15, it'll be stable from the get-go and then you won't have to mess with it later. That's what I did until I got the tuner card.
  23. Is it my imagination or does the EWN logo shake all over the place when it appears in the lower right corner? It looks really weird. Otherwise it's not bad.
  24. WJBK weekend evening anchor / weekday reporter Robin Schwartz is leaving after 17 years. She is taking a job as Director of Communications at Bedrock Real Estate. This is the third anchor/host to leave WJBK since August, 2 of whom were hired when FOX spruced the place up around 1996 and one from the New World days.
  25. Kam Carmen, who hosted "The Nine" in the mornings on WJBK left the station last week. She had been there since 1991 as a meteorologist and later co-host, word on the street says it wasn't voluntary and was a budget thing.
