  1. Somebody blew it in creative services or programming.
  2. And now we need a new morning anchor at WXYZ. Good for Vic though, he's gonna be a reporter and eventually lead anchor in his hometown.
  3. That's because a good general rule a friend once told me usually rings true: People are, indeed, stupid. I hadn't noticed any smarmyness or anything... you really shouldn't be worried about offending people either but that's just my 2 cents. I think everybody has been pretty well behaved around here lately (well really always) so I think the discussions we have been having about this and other stuff have been pretty constructive.
  4. Well yeah that's crazy... even I didn't mean that... I just meant that virtually always there is some minor dip at least when a long-time face vanishes suddenly. I think it looks worse when the talent disappers and they release a new open without him the following Monday. Did anyone even so much as mention it on the air?
  5. What if one of the major reasons you tuned in was Mike? Just playing a little devils advocate here. I agree it won't be some kind of dive in the numbers but it might dip a few tenths of a point for a book or two. If any big guns leave (like anchors) it would probably be more. As for the mood thing... I agree nit picking every broadcast and every single delivery is overkill. I can see once a month or something to track her progress but not every day... Jerry just kind of goes with it which is part of why he is likeable so a flawless delivery almost becomes secondary at this point. Besides... It's fun to watch him struggle to not laugh or to watch his clicker die mid weathercast..
  6. Apparently the Mike Caplan fan base is none too pleased... The last thing you really want to do is make people mad with personel moves. There are 4 other stations to watch in town and the line may be finer than it looks between some of them, especially 5 and 9.
  7. I will submit that she has not much more than 7 years of career experience... That's not much relative to other people in many big markets. Even then just because you are somewhere doesn't mean you are really good. It just means you are there.
  8. It's more inexperience than anything... She's a little wet behind the ears for this market. Maybe she's feeling the pressure, I still believe her delivery has issues.
  9. Has anybody else noticed the new promos for The View have Scripps looking orange and blue effects? I just saw one and it made me think of it. I know GMA's ribbon looks a lot like the Scripps V1 graphics package from 2009. Does ABC News use Renderon for it's graphics? I'm under the impression they are really trying to freshen up the look of The View lately.
  10. Several of the FOX owned stations seem to do that... Win demos while getting crushed in overalls, I have no idea why that is. Has WNYW drastically improved it's news product?
  11. Maybe it's all in the nostalgia?
  12. That I'm not sure about, maybe it's an option or can be specially requested that way? I know that prior to the "7 Sports Cave" existing they ran their news till 930 and public affairs till 10 then This Week for an hour, then their Lions Pregame Show. When they cancelled their Sunday Sports Update from 11-1130pm they added a half hour of news 1130pm-12am and created the sports cave and put it on from 11am-12pm with everything else staying the same. The 2014 NFL season is when this 30-minute version of This Week appeared.
  13. They did during the NFL season... Now it's back to an hour if you look at the second part of my post.
  14. Some Changes to WXYZ/WMYD's daytime lineup effective Feb. 2: Currently: WXYZ 10am = Dr. Oz (Moved here in September 2014 to make room for The Now, replaced The Doctors at 10am) WXYZ 3pm = Meredith (Replaced Katie) WMYD 4pm = The Doctors Starting 2/2: WXYZ 10am = The Doctors WXYZ 3pm = Dr. Oz WMYD 4pm = Meredith http://www.wxyz.com/news/dr-oz-the-doctors-the-meredith-viera-show-trading-timeslots I didn't realize Meredith was doing that bad...
  15. That's the kind of thing only a mother could love.
  16. That was really fast... I suspect they were part of that group made a few weeks ago for the 7pm.
  17. Sometimes that's the best part...
  18. That ND isn't a statue either... Things evolve and freshening up the look is part of that. The ND was likely given a strategy to implement and made specific decisions from there which apparently included less strict wardrobes. That the ND is the same for a decade or not doesn't mean much when they start redoing things or they start implementing a new strategy. They probably figured they needed to liven up the place while they still had demos and having the anchors look a little more with the times might help in getting those younger demos to stick around. Frankly I hadn't hardly noticed any change in there wardrobes and they are still rather conservatively dressed and yet they are contemporary. Put another way: just be glad you don't have to look at a 65 year old women's cleavage on a semi regular basis. One of the anchors around here is allowed to do that and it's... Yuck.
  19. If you are gonna go younger and target younger than it's reasonable to assume that the clothing would follow a younger pattern. I don't really know how into the wardrobes Emily Barr really was.. That seems like something for the News Director with maybe a little input from Barr, micromanaging newscasts seems a bit below a GM. The news director is gonna have a lot more direct input into the newscasts than the GM I would think since the ND's job is day to day newsroom management and newscast development. Maybe they even did some research or the anchors started asking or they simply decided to freshen their image. Speaking of stuffy clothes... Cheryl Burton and those funny ascot/scarf/neck thingies... Nothing stuffier than that look. Btw when do February Sweeps start? Waiting for signs of stepped up and over the top stories like the cat cam but haven't seen any.
  20. Probably call in a CLTV person, but I think I've seen Skilling too. I was responding to the comment about wishing it could always be done this way which gave me the impression something had been changed about the arrangement. I still would expect changes even if they are suttle.
  21. It happened last week too... They have a new News Director so I would expect changes and tweeks to personel and schedules and the look and feel of the shows over the next few months. Each ND wants to put their mark on the product. Little changes like this if they stick are examples.
  22. Geez.... Everything's all messed up now.
