  1. 4am with snow.... Let's go with that...
  2. How do they promote this thing? Does get a "don't forget to join us for Eyewitness News at 7 on The U and then again for Eyewitness News At 10 right here on ABC7" or anything on the end of the 6? You really can't get much lower than 0.3 before this show becomes an extremely elaborate rehersal...
  3. Another wrinkle to the stream: It still uses the "ABC7 Eyewitness News" logo over cityscape before and after the program. So there appears to be, at least at present, 2 separate systems at work.
  4. One of the ads that most surprised me was a "Garcia For Mayor" ad... I didn't expect the political ads to make it onto the stream... I like it but miss the aerial cityscape shots. I had a hunch that it was similar to watch ABC... I almost thought a wire got crossed somewhere for a moment until I saw the sports scores thing.
  5. Well ABC7's live stream has been completely redone... It now has the scores during sports (complete with glossy ABC7 News logo), ads run during commercials, the ABC7 Eyewitness News logo over aerial shot of the city has been replaced with a rather generic ABC7 on blue moving background and the default screen when the stream is off says "We're not on the air, check back" in a box with the ABC7 logo below it and the standard spinning giant circle-7 background. Even saw a couple of ABC7 News This Morning ads with Hosea in them with the old graphics on monitors in the studio shots. Pretty cool overall. Aligns them more with at least KGO and KABC, I can't remember if WABC does that stuff yet.
  6. Well that's one way to show your love for the guy I guess...
  7. Michigans roads are awful. So WXYZ's solution is to get a Hummer H1 and bring you free tires to get you back on the road...
  8. This will be an interesting test of their theory that a website guy can run an entire news department...
  9. What automation system do they use? Usually everything from them is pretty smooth. Huh.
  10. That probably wouldn't have much residual results beyond the night that Empire physically airs.... but if 32 gets a huge bump for that one night it'll skew the averages and make things look way different than they are. They could get crushed the other 4 nights and really really crush 9 the night Empire is on and make it look competitive even if the reality is that 1 night is that way and not all 5. Fun with numbers... This can even happen between the first 15 minutes and the last 15 minutes of a newscast... you could start tied with your next closest competitor for the first 15 minutes and then lose 1.5 ratings points in the second 15 minutes and come out in second and 3/4 of a point away in the end which makes it look less like the horse race it started as.
  11. Well ok I gotcha. I really meant was it a station like WFLD that was bought in the 80's to be a charter FOX O&O. But that appears to be a big No.
  12. Has KSAZ always been an O&O?
  13. Ann Marie LaFlamme is leaving WXMI in Grand Rapids to be a morning Reporter/MMJ at WXYZ in Detroit. LaFlamme had been at WXMI since 2013. http://www.mlive.com/entertainment/grand-rapids/index.ssf/2015/03/fox_17s_ann_marie_laflamme_lea.html
  14. See I took Giangreco's word for it since I couldn't remember and... he let me down.
  15. The poor dear.... having to read copy 6 times for a total of 30 or so minutes.... Why is there a 4 and 430 sports report? Does it change that quick? It never really made much sense to me... I know many stations have cut the sports out of their first evening newscast entirely and save it for the 6 (5 in this case). I see the need for the 5 and on to have sports just not the need for 2 in that first hour.
  16. Just have her do the 6 at that rate.
  17. One can hope... Is Cox a big standardizer or do they let their stations breathe a little and be individual?
  18. Ideally it doesn't take 20 odd years to make strides... That shows poor management. And since Scripps is apparently run in a top down style and they are having many stations with serious issues right now it would suggest that upper management is very poor and has been for a while. WEWS's decline began a while ago too. Apparently WPTV is indeed still #1 so Scripps has one feather under their cap, I can't think of another though. Scripps is hiring a bunch of senior directors of all kinds too to fill positions that should be filled to begin with... It makes me think some folks jumped ship recently.... In many of their markets stations need evening anchors... Weekend anchors... Morning anchors..... And lots of MMJ's so maybe that's some evidence of this new "more news gatherers" strategy...
  19. WXYZ is also doing relatively well if you measure by total viewers (not many Scripps stations get 2nd in the ratings in every slot with news except The Now and top rated Noon).... But advertisers of course don't exactly do that and they lack demos... I agree it's rotting from the inside out. There is usually a point of no return with these things where the damage is too great to fix.
  20. Well here's more on the latest layoffs to "get more news-gatherers in the field gathering actual news" with a focus on Investigative: http://www.adweek.com/tvspy/after-layoffs-scripps-says-it-wants-more-people-doing-actual-newsgathering/142922 Just to summarize from the article which cites the layoffs rumored to have happened at 3 stations: WFTS: Manager of The Investigative Unit (well that makes no sense given their stated focus) Promotions Manager Special Projects Producer (Investigative is under special projects at some stations at least) WEWS: 8 people including a Creative Services Writer / Producer KGTV: Investigative EP (again a conflicting layoff) Lead Assignment Editor (this is really a necessity to manage "gathering news") GM's Executive Assistant Their CEO said "“We are focused on digital video..." in touting the growth of Newsy and their intention to focus on growing that. Apparently that focus comes at the expense of their TV properties including in the areas they are focusing on... Something has to be up with them.
  21. Not very well... WXYZ dropped it in the fall and put it on WMYD in favor of The List. I don't know about other markets.
  22. Layoffs at Scripps today: http://www.adweek.com/tvspy/vp-responds-to-layoff-rumors-at-scripps/142827 I get the feeling it's a sinking ship... I was reading last night that one of Journals largest shareholders (19 percent) is voting no or abstaining altogether because there will be no Journal representation on Scripps board. The deal will probably go through anyway but that's a major chunk of Journal stock to sit out the vote...
  23. If any of that is true... Their web offerings are horrible though... I think they should just stick to running TV stations... as it is their financial results are continuously lagging the rest of the industry because they keep going off on these misadventures trying to identify things they think are the future but have no way of really knowing much about. If they were smart they would be slower to change and let some other company take a big leap.
  24. And if it gets worse and dogs her long enough her Q score will fall which could put her replacing Jerry in jeopardy.
  25. This one is more reasonable except the last sentence which is kind of deflective...
