See I took Giangreco's word for it since I couldn't remember and... he let me down.

The poor dear.... having to read copy 6 times for a total of 30 or so minutes.... Why is there a 4 and 430 sports report? Does it change that quick? It never really made much sense to me... I know many stations have cut the sports out of their first evening newscast entirely and save it for the 6 (5 in this case). I see the need for the 5 and on to have sports just not the need for 2 in that first hour.
-
Just have her do the 6 at that rate.

One can hope... Is Cox a big standardizer or do they let their stations breathe a little and be individual?

Ideally it doesn't take 20 odd years to make strides... That shows poor management. And since Scripps is apparently run in a top down style and they are having many stations with serious issues right now it would suggest that upper management is very poor and has been for a while. WEWS's decline began a while ago too. Apparently WPTV is indeed still #1 so Scripps has one feather under their cap, I can't think of another though. Scripps is hiring a bunch of senior directors of all kinds too to fill positions that should be filled to begin with... It makes me think some folks jumped ship recently.... In many of their markets stations need evening anchors... Weekend anchors... Morning anchors..... And lots of MMJ's so maybe that's some evidence of this new "more news gatherers" strategy...
-
WXYZ is also doing relatively well if you measure by total viewers (not many Scripps stations get 2nd in the ratings in every slot with news except The Now and top rated Noon).... But advertisers of course don't exactly do that and they lack demos... I agree it's rotting from the inside out. There is usually a point of no return with these things where the damage is too great to fix.

Well here's more on the latest layoffs to "get more news-gatherers in the field gathering actual news" with a focus on Investigative: http://www.adweek.com/tvspy/after-layoffs-scripps-says-it-wants-more-people-doing-actual-newsgathering/142922 Just to summarize from the article which cites the layoffs rumored to have happened at 3 stations: WFTS: Manager of The Investigative Unit (well that makes no sense given their stated focus) Promotions Manager Special Projects Producer (Investigative is under special projects at some stations at least) WEWS: 8 people including a Creative Services Writer / Producer KGTV: Investigative EP (again a conflicting layoff) Lead Assignment Editor (this is really a necessity to manage "gathering news") GM's Executive Assistant Their CEO said "“We are focused on digital video..." in touting the growth of Newsy and their intention to focus on growing that. Apparently that focus comes at the expense of their TV properties including in the areas they are focusing on... Something has to be up with them.

Not very well... WXYZ dropped it in the fall and put it on WMYD in favor of The List. I don't know about other markets.

Layoffs at Scripps today: http://www.adweek.com/tvspy/vp-responds-to-layoff-rumors-at-scripps/142827 I get the feeling it's a sinking ship... I was reading last night that one of Journals largest shareholders (19 percent) is voting no or abstaining altogether because there will be no Journal representation on Scripps board. The deal will probably go through anyway but that's a major chunk of Journal stock to sit out the vote...
-
If any of that is true... Their web offerings are horrible though... I think they should just stick to running TV stations... as it is their financial results are continuously lagging the rest of the industry because they keep going off on these misadventures trying to identify things they think are the future but have no way of really knowing much about. If they were smart they would be slower to change and let some other company take a big leap.
-
And if it gets worse and dogs her long enough her Q score will fall which could put her replacing Jerry in jeopardy.
-
This one is more reasonable except the last sentence which is kind of deflective...
-
That's part of what I was saying.... I just doubt it'll get there although that "we all write our own stories" thing sounds a little glossy.
-
I assume they didn't include Scott in that... I was watching but on the stream so I missed sports...
-
That's too bad. She shouldn't be attacked for that. All that matters is that her forecast is accurate and that the hawks win. The people throwing stones probably live in glass houses anyways...
-
Well if folks are trying hard enough somebody will get a picture, but I agree (and hope) it blows over.
-
There really isn't... I'm not personally in favor of any actual grief towards anybody for their private dealings. I just don't have much faith that other folks necessarily share that view. I have the feeling it'll become an issue if it's true so that's why I'm giving my 2 cents on it. They can practice whatever monogomy or not that they want to... Doesn't bother me. If it was true it could hurt her Q Score.
-
If it stirs up the right group of people she will be terminated faster than the wind speeds in an EF5 tornado. Sharp is high profile enough of a person for Scott to become a complete distraction if it blows up. On the flip side the ratings could bounce up...
-
Still.... Not really needed here and none of our business. Plus who cares?
-
What is your point and who really cares, hundreds of millions are as I type all around the world...

Here's the new open to "7 Action News At Noon" and some idea of what their new Downtown Glass Studio looks like: They will originate the Noon news and do interviews on the other newscasts with newsmakers. I assume for big events the main anchors will go down there though that desk is tiny. They are also using this bumper promo during the Noon news to promote that they are doing it downtown:
-
I thought wheel and jeopardy! Had been going be from WCPO for a while now? Here in Detroit the Noon news and RTM are a solid #1 across the board at Noon. It's actually the only slot outside of ABC shows (those all win) that dominate for them. Everything else is 3rd. That doesn't make RTM a better show or a good Wheel/Jeopardy replacement...
-
As soon as they seperated from the cash cow that was the cable channels it went downhill fast. Until they decide to win rather than just exist they won't be that good. KSHB actually illustrates several of the other stations... Slow to hire and develop product. Many of the corporate manager hires have been from Saint Louis, Tulsa etc... Not real huge markets to get management from... Mainly rookies too with no prior credentials to save even more money. WXYZ has been without a weekend Co-anchor for 2+ Years now with no hire yet... But it's been posted twice now...
-
That brings up kind of a side question: are there any Scripps stations that aren't struggling? I know KSHB has been doing ok for a bit and then it's slipped rather badly lately. KMGH wasnt doing too well last I heard... WCPO slipped.... WXYZ is in a distant third.... WEWS isn't winning... WMAR isn't... Yuck... I can't speak for WFTS or their stations in California. KNXV won something a little while back... It just doesn't look real good.
