  1. Wahoo... too bad ABC is so obtuse about showing it's sportscasts, I'd like to see that. I have a hard time believeing a cheap company like Scripps has the rights to air the sports highlights over the internet and the O&O's don't but who knows.
  2. I just don't see her moving to a network and I'm not sold that moving on is her eventual goal right this second or this pressure even exists. Those opinions are of course subject to change if she improves enough to warrant it.
  3. I read it 6 months ago... the point is that a small spat isn't gonna stop them from running commercials promoting other shows in the division if they wish to. If it did then the wheels would quickly fall off ABC News.
  4. There's really not much difference between DMA 1 and DMA 3. WGN has always had Skilling and Ramsey for evenings and a couple folks for mornings. For the amount of news that the station does their weather and sports staffs are really small at 2 each that do evenings at all. Last Sunday at 9pm they had a CLTV Meteorologist fill in for Ramsey so they will utilize someone from the cable channel before they hire somebody else. Bottom line is that they need to hire more folks but probably won't. So it's not so much bad scheduling as having nobody to schedule.
  5. I don't think it's that uncommon to not see certain things promoted at certain times of the day... Putting them in primetime is probably much more bang for your buck then taking time away from national ads on WNT. Plus in theory the people seeing them are starting to think about tomorrow morning in primetime. At WNT time they just walked in from work.
  6. More New talent opens! I wonder how long it'll take for them to use them? This is a fairly linear move by 7, only a year and a half of Jerry laughing during weather at 10 to go and counting. Cheryl needs to do a ton of work on her on-air presence if she's gonna do all this and then succeed Jerry. She simply isn't that good right now and the inexperience delivering weather shows. If they change enough stuff and get rid of enough longtime folks in a short time (2-3 years) it will not end well. I don't know if Cheryl could drag the 4 and 5 down a tad or not. TV may be gone by 2018... Maybe one day you'll be posting clips at the flurried rate I do... How did you manage to put a 26 minute video together?
  7. I don't think more than 6 anchors, 2 weather and 1 sports is completely uncommon in larger markets... For Example here in Detroit: WJBK: 6 Anchors, 2 Weather, 1 Sports WDIV: 7 Anchors, 2 Weather, 1 Sports WXYZ: 9 Anchors, 3 Weather, 1 Sports
  8. Caplan began his broadcast career in 1981 at WWDV in Zion. CRM did a good write-up tonight and it talks about some of his background: http://chicagoradioandmedia.com/news/7127-abc-7-releases-meteorologist-mike-caplan
  9. It would certainly lead to her doing the 7 and 10 and Jerry at 4, 5 and 6. It's much more linear if nothing else.
  10. Do we have an idea who slides into his spot? I would guess Cheryl but wanted to bounce that off you guys.
  11. Cutthroat industry that isn't forgiving... But still... Maybe they are afraid of an angry tirade against management? When management is flattered with a talent they quietly disappear usually. That may be an outdated model in an era where information gets out so easy. @behindNYnews: I was trying to get at wondering what the reason they didn't like him was? Maybe he scored poorly in research.
  12. I wonder if their ratings take any kind of a hit at 4 considering how long he has been there on that show?
  13. What an awful decision by 7. I really liked Mike and I am sure he will land somewhere. I wonder what the different direction will be? I know we have Cheryl but how different can you really go with the weather?
  14. Where? I just looked.... No dice.
  15. Reading tone and context on the internet is loads of fun I never actually even saw the show itself... Was it worth much?
  16. Yes it did in 2012 or 13 for a summer... Then it quietly disappeared. They advertised the thing so I'm surprised you missed it.
  17. Oh I gotcha, well then I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with.
  18. The mornings are the tough ones to get especially if you get the evenings usually. I made the recommendation so I'm glad to see you went out and got it. What are you using to edit the files and add the nice fade at the end?
  19. Great job on the video, looks really good and welcome to the tuner recording club. Which equipment did you opt for?
  20. 7 Still has the old news brand all over the walls on that set though... that in itself is kind of baffling, they changed out the backdrop but left up the old wallpaper (I realize it's not wallpaper). I kind of like 9's set... It's a bit dated but it has aged rather well.
  21. You're right ignored would be the better word... actually for being ignored they do pretty good too.
  22. We always say they are neglected by Disney... but they still get plenty of support to make a better product in some cases.
  23. WXYZ changed it's Sunday morning lineup this past Sunday to reflect the end of the NFL season and added moved another half-hour of news. Their old lineup was: 6am 7 Action News This Morning 7am GMA Weekend 8am-930am 7 Action News Weekend Morning 930-10am This Week 10-1030am Spotlight On The News (Public Affairs) 1030-11am 7 Sports Cave 11am-noon Lions Game Day Live New lineup is: 6am 7 Action News This Morning 7am GMA Weekend 8am-9am 7 Action News Weekend Morning 9-10am This Week 10-1030am Spotlight On The News 1030-11am 7 Action News Weekend Morning 11-1130am 7 Sports Cave Kind of an interesting place to put a 30 minute newscast.
  24. Ehhh... I misread your down the dial comment. I doubt they are copying that closely. Station groups are rolling these out in general across their stations in some cases so It's not like 2 had a lock on the concept. The name might be a jab at 2 but nothing more.
