1. It's in a few packages I've seen in all their different colors. There's one in the life purple. But like I said before the one stand-out is the white color, in contrast to the blacks and grays they feature.
2. So, either TEGNA has loosened up their standardization policy some or... they must be trying out some changes, because I just found this look out of KPNX/12 News in AZ: http://www.12news.com/news/local/valley/police-investigating-deadly-shooting/343096325 Granted, it's only on their morning show, but still.... that's the strangest L3 I've seen. EVER.
3. I just noticed those tonight down here on WVEC as well. Haven't seen them before either, but the brightness/white makes me think it could be a part of the new package too.
4. Over in Market #42 -- ABC13 News Now/WVEC adds an new fifth meteorologist (first in market, IIRC) and shuffles the weekend team around: New Meteorologist Crystal Harper takes over Weekend Daybreak duties while the previous Weekend Daybreak meteorologist Iisha Scott moves to weekend evenings. Cool note: Crystal jumped from the Cheyenne market (#192) to take the job....(thanks Bob/VARTV for that tidbit), and is a former USAF meteorologist and is now a Naval reservist. Evan Stewart, the former weekend evening meteorologist since the 1990s, received a promotion to Sr. Meteorologist and Director of Weather Content, and is now the primary 4pm Meteorologist, and is Jeff's primary fill-in for the later newscasts.
5. So I went looking around the ABC10 video archive, and for what it's worth, all portions of ABC10/KXTV has changed to that look, not just the weather department. It appears DIN is not going to be their default font anymore either -- but that "ABCish" font is the new normal. There's also no more rundown, no more permanent L3 and oddly, and no second line on the L3. Instead, the L3 wipes and shows the second line text in the full L3 bar. The topic (News/Breaking/Weather, etc) is also no longer static, and can pretty much be changed into anything they want it to. They're also still sticking to the topical color palate, but it's so much more subdued than the current look -- only as a stripe on the side of the L3. White backgrounds have replaced the black and gray all over the place. This very well could be TEGNA's pull away from the old G3 look. http://www.abc10.com/media/local
6. So, WVEC is streaming the TEGNA-produced TD Jakes Show like it's one of their news broadcasts -- is any other TEGNA station doing the same?
7. For the record, allegedly Access Hollywood came across the video footage at some point in the recent past, and "planned" on reporting on it. It was also said that the News division (MSNBC IIRC) got prior knowledge of the tape from the Entertainment division, and that the reporting was supposed to be a one-two from Access Hollywood reporting first and then NBC News doing the followup on the story. However, as we all know, somewhere between that point of planning and Saturday last, it got leaked to WaPo. Once the Post got it, they reached out to NBCU for comment, who then had to ACTUALLY scramble to cobble together the report they were "planning" to do. Someone in the NBCU universe wanted Billy Bush gone. The question is, was it the Entertainment division or the News division...
8. Yeah, WVEC is as well. The color on the rundown also shows both red and blue.
9. Sinclair is there... which appears to be everywhere, according to what looks like a promo vid.
10. Also from Bob's (VARTV) twitter files, Phillip Townsend returns to WVEC from WFAA to take over weekend anchor from longtime weekend anchor Brian Farrell. Phillip left WVEC in 2014 to take a reporting gig at WFAA. Farrell is stepping down from the anchor chair to take over as Director of Content for the station.
11. TEGNA has a few ideas on the future of local TV News: http://www.niemanlab.org/2016/08/where-does-local-tv-news-fit-in-the-digital-age-tegna-a-year-separated-from-gannett-has-some-ideas/
12. As originally posted in Out and About (H/T to both WAVY 10 and VARTV:
13. She definitely will be missed, although outside of fill-ins and her daily Consumer Minute videos for the web, she hasn't really seen significant air time since the early 2010s when she was on the PM shows.
14. As much as I love a good 'Yonce reference, this wasn't one. I'm referring to their use, not yours Eat.
15. In case you don't want to dig: https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=10154463044018987 It's bland. It's generic. It's a font with network logos. But anything is an improvement over their old logo circa 2010. For some reason, the old logo just kept reminding me of the old graphics with the rundown on the side. In addition, I almost want to say it looks like they either have a new set or have had a refresh lately.
16. Your link gave me diabeetus. Just kidding -- it doesn't work though.
17. Ahh yes, the forgotten station that is 'TVZ. I always hoped SBC would spin them off so WVEC could actually compete with the other two stations in market on news content...
18. Former WWBT/NBC12 meteorologist Tom Patten is first in line on the substitution list to fill in for WVEC's morning and noon show.
19. In other as-expected Texas news, Waco's KCEN has dropped it's KCEN-HD branding, instead opting for the generic "Channel 6" branding. Logo is as expected: https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=10153615555741510 Open: http://www.kcentv.com/news/local/local-university-sees-first-day-of-campus-carry/285591535
20. Fixed that; thanks! And is the Big Country more marketable in news than the Concho Valley? If so, that would lead me to understand their choice...
21. As expected, KXVA Fox Abilene rebranded today as FOX 15 Abilene, with the news wesbite and all (fox15abilene.com). With that, they moved their 6:30 and 9 newscasts to 6 and 10, respectively "to go head to head" with the other marker stations. Considering they still share assets with KIDY, I'm assuming they're just going to share the same newscasts, although that remains to be seen. Here's their FB video: On a side note, TEGNA is definitely throwing money their way. Maybe they'll finally get a studio next... UPDATE: KIDY has also switched to the new Gannettegna web theme. URL is currently still myfoxzone.com, however the url www.foxsanangelo.com now redirects there. And with that, all of the former London stations, and now all of TEGNA's properties are in the fold.
22. Yeah, she's one of my faves in the morning as well. I wonder who they may have in store to replace her...
