  1. Hey, at least you were right about one thing: It did sound stupid.
  2. It'll probably be just that -- a "breaking news" anchor to cover large, non local breaking stories who will, on occasion fill in for someone who is off. see: Sandra Parker on Daybreak. She's done the newsroom, the anchor desk when Andre or Lucy are off AND has filled in for Ashley doing traffic.
  3. It's in use on their app already, and they've been airing a commercial about a change coming soon, which leads me to believe that it was probably meant for when they rolled out the new website.
  4. I guess the old "like our partners at USA Today" promo for the website wouldn't work anymore. The websites (and apps) are an improvement over the current London platforms though...
  5. Sumner, is that you?
  6. KBMT's was under their pseudo-call signs for the NBC affiliation, KJAC --> http://goo.gl/YSuKFC
  7. I mean, I've been here for the discussion (you were the one who brought it up, I distinctly remember), but I'm still calling it Gannettegna-ized based simply on the USAT colors, until if/when the UX change becomes more than theorized conjecture, and my weather is not broadcast with a yellow stripe.
  8. And only three months later, the second Lone-Star station, KCEN went live with the Gannettegna-ized website this morning.
  9. Thanks for that... Now I can remember to live stream his first newscast back home
  10. I always pictured Craig to be the heir apparent for Jeff if/when he decides to call it quits. Glad to see he's moving to a WELL-DESERVED Chief spot though. With that being said, 1. Since Craig is the last of the original team on Daybreak, it'll be fun to see the send-off. Hopefully he gets one as big as Lasalle did (considering Lasalle just moved to the afternoons on the same station.) 2. The game of the replacements begins. Iisha to pull 7-days a week of mornings? Or will Evan move out of the shadows and into daytime television...or will we see Jim Lawrence out of retirement (a stretch)...
  11. "Giving you an accurate forecast -- minus the global warming. It's 10News."
  12. ...do you ramble like this when you talk out loud?
  13. A possible graphics reboot altogether? I mean, alot of those Lone Star stations still haven't gotten their website upgrades yest, much less the L3 update with the rundown. On the flip side, I think these graphics have been around since 2013, so maybe it is time for a redo...
  14. That's a good point to make. For example all three stations in the Hampton Roads area own a Doppler radar system, but none of them have operated it on a regular basis since the mid 2000's, instead relying on NWS radar (and branding it as their own).
  15. The previously green-lit TEGNA Media co-produced T.D. Jakes will premiere on September 12. According to TEGNA's press release, it has cleared 40% of the US. Outside of the owned stations, TEGNA has cleared it through several large & medium markets, including Baltimore (WMAR), Detroit (WMYD), Orlando (WFTV/WRDQ), Chicago (WCIU), San Antonio (KSAT), and San Diego (KGTV). Eager & anxious to see how he goes up against Steve Harvey (they have similar formats IMO). Do any of the TEGNA stations run Steve Harvey?
  16. Origninally posted in Out and About, but I thought it was worth mentioning in the TEGNA thread that WWL, while still the overall #1 in NOLA, lost to FOX 8 at 10pm for the first time since Jimmy Carter was the president:
  17. TEGNA is NOT buying another station group anywhere in the near future. I will eat a Trump steak if they even show interest in one within the next 24 months.
  18. David is somewhere between 15 and 16 years, because he arrived in 2000 to replace the late Terry Zahn. I think he may have escaped buyout territory by pure luck of being the youngest out of the 15+ years vets at the station. That being said, I think there the ND and GM could protect a percentage of the staff who were eligible from the buyout, if so, then offer up an inference that that is exactly what ended up happening here, for a number of reasons, primarily being that WVEC currently has the oldest evening news crew in the market. Each of the other stations in the past 5-10 years have shuffled their evening lineups, but WVEC has managed, through its own miraculous ability, has kept Regina, David, Jeff and Scot together. So, they ARE poised to be that archetypal "team you know, names you trust" team. And they are poised to make a run for #1 if what many of us believe will occur when Nexstar finishes eating destroying merging with WAVY's parent, LIN Media Media General. In all, even through all the changes in the market (every station except TVZ has changed ownership hands), WVEC has managed to remain pretty even keeled. What I think in the long run this may do, even though it won't help the books, is it will spur some of the older anchors/reporters/staff to go ahead and put in their retirement papers for the simple fact that, they can't get cut down the line if they're already on the pension. I think a lot of these seasoned vets are sensing the writing on the wall with M&As and industry consolidation and automation, that it's better to go out on their own terms rather than be drug to pasture.
  19. They actually own three -- KMSB is still THEIR station, it's just operated by Raycom.
  20. Tegna would be somewhat hard-pressed to find any more wiggle room to do another round of buyouts at this point when they can now just wait out the contracts for those who were eligible and did not accept. They can (and will) just wait 2-3 more years for contracts to expire, and just not offer a renewal.
  21. I felt like I knew Gannett set themselves up perfectly for M&A post split. While Tegna doesn't have much growth potential YET (they will in a year or two), Gannett has bought up a couple of publishing groups since their split.
