  1. Julie is on her way out, she didn't renew her contract with the station. She originally posted it on Facebook, but it was pulled shortly thereafter. If I remember correctly, her contract expires in a few weeks.
  2. Our local daily runs Parade on weekends as well, but we USA Today is right next to our paper in the checkout line, so at least in this market, it may not be a stretch of epic proportions. And they've long been pushing USA Today -- as a part of their (new) 4pm show, they have a "In The Headlines" segment featuring headlines from their "publication partners at USA Today".
  3. Well, I saw the Gannette takeover, because groupwide this week, they pushed that #FactsNotFear Ebola campaign... plus they push alot of the "Nation Now" stories through to the stations too. Also, I thought I'd tell you, "The Spirit" campaign lives on....sorta. WVEC/ABC13 is using the "Spirit of Hampton Roads" in connection with their food drive this Saturday as part of Gannett's "Make a Difference Day". This would be the first time I've seen that slogan used in almost maybe eight or nine years!
  4. Well, if I were a betting man, Gannett Digital (the web people) will have the London stations up on Presto before G3 can get them on the graphics, considering KREM still hasn't gotten transitioned yet.
  5. In other news, it DOES appear that the new WHAS website has fixed the audio issues that plagued their live streams on the old site...
  6. That's the only reason I mentioned Sanders -- they TECHNICALLY aren't a Gannett Company, as they are owned by Sander along with sister station KGW.
  7. Sanders' WHAS switched their website over to the Gannett themed website this morning, per their Facebook page, making them the last ex-Belo station to switch to Presto. That leaves only the London Stations for the website and graphics, with the inclusion of KREM on the graphics list. So for those of us keeping score at home, here's what's left: KREM - graphics only KIDY - graphics & website KXVA - graphics & website KIII - graphics & website KCEN - graphics & website KBMT - graphics & website KYTX - graphics & website (red bold are London stations)
  8. Meh. I just don't like that fit for some reason.
  9. I guess if/when Gannett redoes the txcn.com domain in true Presto fashion, then we'll know something is a-brew. Until then...
  10. Gannett clearly has the money. There should be no reason they don't dump some into the network. Correct me if I'm wrong, but ever since they dumped their anchors, they went to straight rebroadcasts, didn't they?
  11. At the risk of sounding repetitive, it would be a bad corporate move to NOT build TXCN into something, especially with an 81% Texas coverage.
  12. Actually, KENS and the KING cluster use different cuts. Yeah, I've actually listened intently. LOL. Using NMSA times, KING & Co use the cut that starts at about 00:13. KENS' cut actually sound just like the WFAA/KHOU versions (around 1:06), just sans the melody and opening signature. The hits at the end are the same, just more slowed and chopped on KENS' version. As of now, KVUE is the only G-Team station in Texas using TiH that doesn't use the "sig" cut (or a version thereof), and again brings me back to whether they will use this theme for all of the stations. KENS: WFAA:
  13. That six-note sig in the front sounds like that. While it's not the "Spirit" cue, it still makes me feel Texas-y. Don't know why. I'm also interested in how the London stations will pick up Gannett's themes too. Alot of the themes for those stations have a heavy Texas accent to them, if you will.
  14. They are the same general cut, with that "custom" signature in front. I expect when KREM makes the switch, they'll use the KING cut, to match the NWCN cluster.
  15. Did anyone get the grabs of the KHOU open?
  16. By the way, WHAS is getting ready to start working on transitioning their website -- the transition "UX" subdomain has been activated. They haven't loaded the CMS yet, but as a web developer, I can tell they just booted up the subdomain. So, with that, here is the updated list, since my last attempt on 8/17: Pending On-Air Changes: KTVB KHOU KREM KIDY KXVA KIII KCEN KBMT KYTX Pending Online Changes: WVEC 1 KREM 2 WHAS 3 KIDY KXVA KIII KCEN KBMT KYTX 1: UX domain active; scheduled for switchover on 9/24; also switching to new main domain (13NewsNow.com) 2: UX domain active; content backload in progress 3: UX domain activated, Presto not loaded, or content backload not in progress red bold: ex-London stations
  17. Kari Jacobs named the new GM of Gannett's WVEC/ABC 13, according to MediaBistro (http://www.mediabistro.com/tvspy/kari-jacobs-named-gm-of-wvec_b129155):
  18. WVEC has been in the works for some time now. Release date is 9/24. Speaking of, here's their official promo/release: http://www.wvec.com/home/The-new-13newsnowcom-arrives-September-24th-274791041.html
  19. Are they really changing their domain? Don't forget, KREM doesn't even have the on-screen look either.
  20. And ther already have a glitch -- all of their Facebook stories link to a 404 Error page at WFAA's website.
  21. I'd naturally assume it was a step-down myself, except for I don't think she was under contract with Inside Edition anymore -- on her LinkedIn she says she's a "Freelance Correspondent". And I think she was also only doing the weekend anchoring on the show as well. Other than that, and it being a hometown gig, I'd agree with you.
  22. WVEC is spending bundles of cash from Daddy Gannett -- today on their new 4pm newscast, they will debut their new "Mobile Weather Lab". They've been running promos for it all summer, albeit behind a pixelated image of the truck saying "stay tuned"... Also, for the rest of this week, Inside Edition's April Woodard is "guest anchoring" (and in actuality, auditioning) to fill the empty morning anchor chair vacated by longtime anchor LaSalle Blanks (he moved to the aforementioned 4pm broadcast). From what I saw, I liked her, she did a very good job this morning. She's also a hometown girl, and the aunt of my third favorite QB, Russell Wilson, so, I'm of course, biased.
  23. From the "official" release for 13News Now at 4pm (http://www.wvec.com/home/13News-Now-to-launch-new-4-pm-newscast-273832461.html) : We'll see how it turns out. Also, while we're on that, they are honing in on the Daybreak replacement for LaSalle, who left the show to go to the aforementioned 4pm show. From Vanessa Coria:
  24. KHOU still uses that "Stands for Houston" in their current promo, which is more hyperlocal than "The Spirit of Texas" (which, by the way, KHOU phased out late 00/early 10's). But even if "This is Home" isn't necessarily a hometown creation, for most people, they won't know that, unless they follow the happenings in the industry. It could easily have been created at any station/market. IT just happens to be used in multiple markets, just like the "On Your Side" tag or "Taking Action" or any other cheesy branding line.
  25. I have to agree. Of course, we all have our nostalgia factor. We get connected to a piece and it grows on us and becomes a part of the station. I have my connections with WVEC's Spirit Campaign too, simply because I'm a long-time fan of WVEC, But if it hasn't been prominent on the station for years, then it doesn't really have much of an effect of being retired. But for example, if WAVY-TV 10 kicked their "On Your Side" branding, it'd be more troublesome, but that's because its been a prominent part of their station for 20 years now, even outliving both Spirit Campaigns at WVEC. People have grown to know WAVY as "10 on Your Side" so much in the last twenty, that the reporters now sign off with that. That makes it more likely to be noticed in the community when it's gone. It's not missed so much if it's only shown in an occasional spot or promo on air. And from what I can tell (I'm not in Texas), but other than being the in the musical signature of Propulsion, it had begun to be phased out when they launched their new Hothaus graphics in 2012, dropping the "In the Spirit of Texas" from the open. But let's face it -- the majority of those complaining at all about the quiet packing away of a legacy theme created in the 80s are just the vocal minority. Even when WVEC ditched "The Spirit" TWICE, there wasn't a backlash. They only seems more prominent now (just like the vocal minority in every other aspect of life) because of social media -- now they can go online and tag/post on the Stations website and scream about it, instead of just barking at their TV's at home. These people also tend to be the older generation who have simply grown up it, and they also tend to be less apt to change. It's the same complaints with the graphic-haters as well. I get it, I understand it. But I still think the anger is weird, ridiculous and even more so, temporary. Even if 1% change their viewing habits, The G-Team will continue with the status quo.
