  1. -ducks a tomato toss- I never said it was better. I just sounds better than the "nice" music the legacy G-Team stations have been using. If I could make WVEC go back to Convergence circa 2001, I would, because that's my favorite music...
  2. That is also one thing I applauded WFAA on - their music choice. That cut they are using sounds more "regal" and news-y. For some reason, it actually makes me THINK Texas when I hear it. As for those comments...Some of these complaints are just absolutely ridiculous. Seriously, Belo had one of the WORST websites in the industry (sans some of the WorldNow sites). They had huge amounts of scripts on their websites, among other non-responsive issues. If anything, the new G-Team websites are easier to navigate and find information. Those complaints grind my gears more than the ones about the TV graphics, although those are equally as ridiculous.
  3. He's now a MMJ and is dubbed as the"social media correspondent"... he's been on Facebook like crazy since he left Daybreak. He's also supposed to be taping "good news" segments for the show, highlighting positive news in the community. IMO, they should probably use him as an anchor at the first half hour, then maybe try three anchors at 4:30. But if they do 2 per half, I'd think it'd be David & Lucy at 4, and then run Lucy & Janet at 4:30 to run them into their original half at 5. That is, unless WVEC/G-Team shakes up the entire anchor lineup on down to the 6pm show.
  4. They'll be (once again) the last in the market to get a 4pm newscast -- they were previously the last to host a 5:30 newscast back in the early 2000s (correct me if I'm wrong). Speaking of that 5:30 newscast -- I don't know if ntropolis was here when it debuted -- but, for some reason, I get the feel like the 4pm newscast will be something similar to that, where David Alan used to anchor the entire half hour from the newsroom sans jacket. But seriously: three anchors -- Lucy, David and Janet, plus LaSalle (now a MMJ or as they call him, a "social media correspondent"), and Traffic Anchor Ashley Smith (who just started pulling her double shifts last week -- she still does the morning show), how in the world will the cycle through or make them all fit?
  5. On a story posted on the WFAA website about Greg Abbott pulling out of appearing on the WFAA-hosted Gubernatorial debate, WFAA touted that Gannett has a 83% reach in Texas: One note: it seems odd they names their former Belo sisters by name, but when referring to their newly adopted siblings, they only referred to their market.
  6. With KING/NWCN switching websites last week, and WFAA switching graphics & website today, here is the updated list, since my last attempt on 8/17: Pending On-Air Changes: KTVB KHOU KREM KIDY KXVA KIII KCEN KBMT KYTX Pending Online Changes: WWL1 WVEC2 KREM WHAS KIDY KXVA KIII KCEN KBMT KYTX 1: UX domain active; content backloaded through August 2011 2: UX domain active; content backload not yet in progress red bold: ex-London stations
  7. Watching the live stream of WFAA @ 10, Dale Hansen gives Gannett a shot in the ribs on their graphics. After giving his opinion on the Josh Gordon suspension for marijuana, he said"...if you want to write me about it [his opinion], my email address must be somewhere on the screen -- everything else is..." and finishing up during the toss back to the anchors with "I hate the words on the screen..." in a semi-joking manner, although I'm sure he actually DOES hate it. I found it hilarious. I haven't. I'm eagerly awaiting their changes, and just as much, wanting to see how the G-Team fits a Fox into their corporate look.
  8. Point taken. But if I had to rank the executions of the last three Texas stations, WFAA would be #1, followed by KVUE. I said the same thing about that cut. I kinda like it....
  9. I must say, I like that cut of TiH they used. If anything, WFAA should've probably been first out the gate in Texas...
  10. Caught the tail end of News 8 @ 5; it was "new graphics" I now believe that at least a good chunk of Americans have their televisions set on "zoom".
  11. WVEC's new website is now in production: http://ux.wvec.com
  12. I thought it originated in Atlanta.... Don't they call it the Wizometer or something?
  13. Whoops, duly noted. You get 10 bonus points for that, because I knew I was missing someone.
  14. So for those of us keeping score at home: Pending On-Air Changes: KTVB WFAA KHOU KREM KIDY* KXVA* KIII* KCEN* KBMT* KYTX* Pending Online Changes: WFAA (in production) WWL (in production) KING 5 & NWCN (in production) WVEC KREM WHAS KIDY* KXVA* KIII* KCEN* KBMT* KYTX* The asterisks are for the ex-London stations. I have a weird feeling they may do a weekend launch, like WCNC did a few weeks back.
  15. Duly noted. Odd it's the same day they are launching the News @ 4.
  16. 1. At least they did a better job of tagging colors at 4. 2. Do they really break up their newscasts with an episode of Jeopardy at 4:30?
  17. I managed to find a few tidbits of viewer hate for the graphics: and my favorite:
  18. I knew their music cut choice would be much better. Plus I'm digging the sound effects with the transitions. I am laughing at the name mix up though.
  19. Remember a few weeks ago when I once said that the "breaking news/fill-in anchor" would take the spot of the the departing morning show anchor? Yeah neither do I. Anyway, it looks like Gannett's Hampton Roads station will be looking outside the station to fill his shoes. They've recently advertised that their searching for a morning show anchor. That ACTUALLY surprises me, because Sandra Parker, has been with the station since 1990, and has been bumped around quite a lot in the last five years or so. Also, it may appear that the station's GM, Brad Ramsey is on his way out as well -- his job is also being advertised as open.
  20. I realistically think Future Gannett is trying to downlplay the existence of USA Today moving forward. KVUE, being a former Gannett property, will have a much better corporate launch. I managed to find this pic of KVUE's graphics from Twitter...They seem to be getting a better response to the changes. https://twitter.com/gdinges/status/499949814591668225/photo/1
  21. That Eyewitness News tag does look aptly placed. NBC Charlotte/ WCNC does a better job: they rotate through the call letters and then the words Charlotte in a totally non-Gannett font. Did anyone grab the KVUE unexpected debut, or were we all focused on KENS?
  22. I've always been a fan if the ticker instead of the scrolling bar, if they're going to use one at all.
  23. I always forget that you are around AI. Question -- when you say not likely, do you mean on the moving front or the set build-out?
