1. For those of us keeping track, KIII was supposed to make the transition yesterday, but so far, has not.
2. I know they're still an ABC station, but on air, the peacock is attached to the 12News logo on the LCD screens. ANd I meant #2 as, they actually did put it on their website, literally as the banner pic: www.12newsnow.com
3. 1. They're still using the HD tagline too? 2. They ACTUALLY put that logo on their website. 3. I wonder how ABC feels about KBMT tacking the NBC logo onto their network affiliate. Yes, I know that KBMT carries NBC on their .2, but correct me if i'm wrong: it's still technically an ABC affiliate, right?
4. Is it just me, or is their logo in the bug area extending outside the L3? And are they in front of a chromakey?
5. I think for KCEN/KAGS, it's because that may be the only cut with the NBC three tones in it.
6. On the Gannett Digital Front: 1. Looks like all the ex-Belos have ditched their old MOBILE websites for the new Gannett version. The old websites, produced by doApp, were just web versions of their phone/tablet apps. 2. The old apps are now probably on their way out, to be replaced by the current Gannett apps. Right now, they've tweaked the current app to match the white color of the mobile sites. 3. Gannett took over one of Belo's old apps, the WeatherCaster app, and it is currently one of the highest rated weather apps on both iPhone and Android. Don't be surprised if it starts getting pushed to your nearest non-Belo Gannett station.
7. Are they the only ones in HD? So much ambiguity through the market's different wiki pages as who was first -- apparently everyone was.
8. ...and with a graphic on where to find the button on your remote! For what it's worth, KCEN, and KYTX were still broadcasting 4x3 to their cable and satellite providers. They had to have them change it to 16x9 and letterbox their streams so their graphics wouldn't be cut off at broadcast.
9. Both KCEN & KAGS switched their graphics today. No grabs of the open, because I don't think either station live streams. KCEN: http://www.kcentv.com/category/170056/video?autoStart=true&topVideoCatNo=default&clipId=11265213 KAGS: https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=779027908842268&set=vb.183827148362350&type=2&theater At least KCEN's weather graphics turned out better than KYTX: http://www.kcentv.com/category/170056/video?autoStart=true&topVideoCatNo=default&clipId=11268135
10. Here you can definitely see their weather graphics and how bad it looks. It almost gives it a powerpoint look... 1. You can see how narrow the Live Banner is compared to the banner that comes up after it. 2.The SATRAD banner time is static too -- it should be looping with the actual image. The water vap slide clearly is looping, but not the SATRAD? 3. Their computer model banner (Hour by Hour Planner) is skewed and out of place in comparison to ALL the other slides. I mean totally different. 4. On the Dayplanner slide, the font looks a hair too big. If you look carefully, it almost looks as if the degree symbol is static to the slide, but the numbers aren't, because their cutting off a sliver of the degree symbol. Hopefully everything evens out over the next few weeks, and hopefully KAGS/KCEN will have a better rollout with the extra few days they had.
11. According to this Facebook video, KAGS Gannett Graphics debut (previewed here) has been pushed until Monday 3/23. No word if that includes KCEN.
12. Well, I imagine London spent a pretty penny on that set two years ago.... [yt]7glvCBN6dUQ[/yt]
13. Note that they used the old Breaking News graphic (the 5pm video).
14. Didn't their parent just sell all their stations sans KTXD and KCEB? Makes you wonder if they spent all $215mil of that Gannett money... I wonder if Gannett would want to come in and scoop up London completely and let operated TXD as a duop with WFAA...
15. KYTX did do a decent job, although in my opinion, the weather production leaves a bit to be desired, especially with their banners having different sizes on different screens, etc. KIDY/KXVA's are the ones I'm most excited to see, simply because you all will be the first Fox affiliate for the group. Just want to see how that FOX logo blends with the color. As for KIII, I'm surprised as you...especially since your parent just renegotiated all their ABC stations in like October. Unless ABC changed that part of the contract....
16. I got bored and went and found the original post . AI-SA-TX said it'll take time for them to get new equipment in, since all of the LSB stations use Chyron. So I'm assuming that's why the on-screen graphics lack the rundown and animated looks. The response has been relatively muted in Tyler, with the exception of a few people noting their graphics are being cut off/letterboxed. For what it's worth, the strategy, if it was one, not to advertise the look may have worked out, although it may have more to do with not pushing USA Today anymore since the two are divorcing later this year.
17. What do you think of the lack of a rundown? It's still odd looking to me, especially with the "hard-cut" transitions in the L3. I mentioned in this thread before the ABC Affliation contract REQUIRES a change to some form of on-air ABC cobranding: "Station agrees to prominently co-brand with ABC in order to closely link the Station with the Network's identity, consistent with the Network creative guidelines and specifications. Co-branding encompasses, but is not limited to the inclusion of the ABC corporate logo in Station's local identification, and encompasses all on-air (e.g., during all dayparts, graphics, voice over, etc.) and off-air (e.g., signage, print, cable, radio, outdoor, website and other digital media, etc) promotion. This limited license to use ABC's trademarks and trade names is subject to the conditions and limitations set forth in the Network creative guidelines and specifications, and Station's usage must be approved in advance by ABC Affiliate Marketing. Station will add the ABC logo element to Station's local identification in a phased manner that will be accomplished when Station makes its next update to its on-air graphic package and its website. Off-air materials will be updated when Station re-supplies its print, signage or other similar materials."
18. I doubt it. The change to KYTX was predictable and inevitable. Their box would not have fir int the logo box without being skewed and shrunk. Also, they were already branding as CBS 19, and I'm sure their CBS affiliation contract required them to "prominently cobrand" the network affiliation on their next graphic refresh like ABC forces their stations to do. For that, KIII will (most likely) have some form of ABC 3 in their branding when they switch.
19. KYTX did an ok job with their rollout; no major gaffes or hiccups. They kept the stylized "19" but dropped the rest in favor of a direct "CBS 19" branding, which they were already verbally.
20. Is it just me, or is it weird without the rundown and animated changes to the L3...
21. No switch by KYTX at noon (typical Gannett launch time); previews for their 5pm newscast are also still using their old graphics.
22. So, it's the Friday before the (scheduled) first ex-London launch on KYTX/CBS 19 this Monday 3/16, and so far there are no signs of the impending change on their main social media or promo pages. Maybe Gannett isn't doing the all-out push this go-round?
23. In case anyone was looking to see what a talent bump a-la Gannett would look like, here is KHOU's from their morning show. [yt]Znov73Mv4jQ[/yt] That cut (I'm sure it has a name, but I call it Cut B, found at :53 on NMSA) is used frequently on non-clustered stations in markets 25-50, with KREM being the exception -- no clue why they aren't using the KING cluster music (or why they haven't updated their horrendous weather graphics). Some of the other stations that have a primary evening cut use this as their early edition theme (see WTSP).
24. I guess they aren't one of those "We don't comment on personnel matters" stations...
