  1. They managed to shove the First Warn logo in there. Lol
  2. WVEC really only has one so far, they call him a "13News Chaser". They are also advertising for a MMJ on their Gannett employment listings.
  3. Longtime anchor of WVEC's morning show Daybreak is leaving the show after 16 years: https://www.facebook.com/WVECLaSalleBlanks/posts/756558484405278 He isn't leaving the station, but will be leaving the broadcast next Wednesday, August 6. No word yet on what he will be doing (new 4pm newscast maybe once final Katie episode airs?), or who will replace him in the anchor chair, though it's likely that Sandra Parker, Daybreak's current breaking news and fill-in anchor will take his spot.
  4. There are still Gannett papers not using the Presto layout?
  5. Maybe they changed the colors to match that VERY bright studio they have.... the dark palette of the Gannett L3's kinda clash with that studio.
  6. That will make WCNC (NBC Charlotte) the first ex-Belo to have both the new website and the new on-air graphics. And it's no secret they'd revert to simply branding by call letters -- NBC Charlotte gave off too much of an O&O feel, at least on my opinion.
  7. I definitely agree on both points. There is a good chance they edit that logo down. I'm thinking they might even drop the call letters entirely from the branding, and revert them to just being "11 News" vice "KHOU 11 News". The rest of the branding, ie "KHOU stands for Houston", is definitely gonna go away in favor of "This is Home."
  8. Post-London, Gannett now covers 83% of Texas households now, a number I'm sure is unprecedented in media conglomeration for a single state. Honestly I think that is probably a part of the Texas cluster has yet to pick up the new branding. Especially in the markets where there has been little change, I think TX will see some of the heaviest backlash from the viewers over the graphics change (and probably overall, now that their station group is no longer 'locally owned'). That being said, I think, just like in the rest of the markets, the graphics and theme and branding will grow on them, but they'll get a heavy dose of "no" from the viewers first. ...and I'm still holding out hope for a revival of TXCN. They'd be amiss to not invest in that cable channel with 83% coverage in the state.
  9. WVEC New Graphics (for those who haven't seen them) Daybreak Open: Noon Close (7/24): Also, does any other Gannett station cover their weather graphic with a VO?
  10. No teases, but KHOU and KGW both have their new sites back-loading content from their old BIM sites into the Presto design. KHOU (http://ux.khou.com), I think will launch sooner rather than later, because they are up to June 2014, while KGW (http://ux.kgw.com) is still in April of 2013. None of the other stations have those "UX" subdomains up just yet.
  11. Previously, all the lettering and numbering was gold, including the website logo. They've had that logo (the ABC13 logo) for about two years now, since they switched station branding to "ABC 13". News branding switched to 13News Now last year.
  12. I did manage to grab a few video grabs from noon. Notice how they use the Breaking News color for their Storm Mode Coverage. Every broadcast since noon was in "Storm Mode". I'll try to get another set tomorrow when coverage returns to normal mode.
  13. They came on at 3pm to cover the news conference, and stayed on air since.
  14. They have been on air off and on since this morning, when the tornado came through at 8:30ish. Originally still using their old graphics, they went back to regular programming at 11:15 and booted up the Gannett graphics, only to have to come back on at 11:40 for another warning. They've then bounced around off and on as conditions warranted. I'm currently trying to capture the video...hopefully I can get it turned around in a short time span.
  15. Yeah, but on the bright side, they weren't scrambling. Glad they were semi-prepared (graphics wise) for what came their way.
  16. So was I. I'm watching again now as well. They had already switched the back parts of the weather computers over (I could tell by the storm tracking elements). Evan was there to help do the entire switch, so I'm sure that helped a bunch. I was saying the same thing. EDIT 2: They've used three different cuts of TiH. I'm absolutely not sure which one is their default.
  17. WVEC had some severe weather roll through the area this morning, and so they used their old graphics all the way up until 11:15am with extended coverage, before going to regular programming. Although I'm sure it's a relatively easy transition I'm sure, it has got to be a pain to try and change all the systems in just 45 minutes. EDIT: They cut back into regular programming just 20 minutes later with a new warning, with the new weather graphics up on screen.
  18. I agree, although for me, outside of the VO for the stories, the music didn't match for the title card.
  19. Well... that'll be a good mark ahead of the graphics change, if they go through with it on Saturday.
  20. I think that the entire KING cluster will end up using that cut of TiH... KING is already using the same cut for their evening newscasts.
  21. That makes that the fourth promo video they made relating the change -- two on Facebook (one with the noon and one with the 5:00pm anchors), and two on-air versions (one with the noon, and one with the 6pm anchors). One semi-related note: I wonder if/when they would finally offer up a 4pm newscast, now that Gannett is their owner. They are the last in the market without one or a 10pm newscast although they lack the latter because they're also the only station lacking a market duop.
  22. KGW officially made the switch this noon. I'm getting caps from the web stream now. EDIT: Here are some of the screencaps I got.I missed the intro; hopefully someone captured the stream. One oddity was the fact that for the Futurecast model, they didn't have the timestamp in the upper right. They also tried to run the "New Look" rundown, but it got tied up somewhere and the Anchor ended up finishing the speech before they got the L3 on the screen to match what he was saying.
  23. They really should use the satellite feature for those maps.
  24. All within one week? Looks like The Mothership is wasting no time finalizing the branding of her babies...
