One of these days maybe the industry will actually give a shit about the rampant alcohol abuse in TV news. 30 years of highs from the adrenaline spikes and the lows of daily news work. I can tell you about folks who work the swing 3p-12a that by 12:30a they are completly shitfaced at home...awake until 5am...and running carpool with 3 kids at 8am. She reeks of booze in the AM. By the time she rolls in around 2:30pm most the boozy smell has been covered by strawberry body spray. It's not a secret. And she does good work and we all love her. But we also look the other way because she does good work...and nobody want's to be the one to mention the subject to her. News people are supposed to be bullet proof and tough as nails. Stations don't care. Sure they will pay for one trip to rehab but they never will deal with the core of the problem because stations are just getting cheaper and cheaper. And lets be honest.... Many news people have no clue, and zero practical field training so they know what is really "out there" in the field and in the newsroom. I would much rather work with somebody stoned then work with a chronic hungover crew member or teammate. Stop drug testing for pot, test for opiates and screen for access alcohol abuse. Amanda was hit by a transient event that mimicked a drunken stupor. I bet she even chalked it up to drinking like everyone else did. She and others ignored the warning signs...and her body gave up. And if she was self detoxing off booze without direct Dr.'s supervision then she didn't stand a fighting chance. Very sad, but the biz chews them up...and spits them out. Most never make it to 30 years...they die...or just burn out. RIP Amanda

The latest KGTV fire promo is killing me... "More people watched 10 news for coverage of the Lilac fire"...... "More" than what? No attribution of any type...not even little tiny Nielsen numbers at the bottom of the screen. The fire was not during the regular book. What the hell do they base that "more viewers" claim on? Is this claim based on the overnights (ratings)...doubtful because I'm pretty sure it's still a giant NO-NO to post or share the "overnights" unless you have permission or a rider in your Nielsen agreement. It's just a play on words. A fabricated non-fact that can never be proven...nor dis-proven . And they wonder why nobody trust the media.

But you CAN get a few hours of "quality time" at one of the Elko legal brothels. I searched it...I clicked on it...I looked at the pictures . Once that newscast is gone...those boys in those northern "cow counties" will have a little more extra time on their hands. Come to think of it... O.J Simpson did his time at the prison in Lovelock...just down the way a bit. Maybe they just ran out of news now that OJ is gone.

I hope he signs the station over to his bed pan nurse, and it gets tied up in a sexy lurid probate court case. Anyone hear from Donald Sterling lately?

The "failed station waiver" for a company like Raycom is as bad as able bodied people parking in the blue zone . Spend some money now you got a tax break...and shore up some of this smaller run down stuff for these smaller and outlaying communities.

Most your morning crews show up in the 3:30-4am range for live hits beginning at 5am. 99.9% of the stations in the US do not staff camera/reporters after midnight till 3:30a. There are a few exceptions such as KGTV and KFMB in San Diego which staff cameras overnight. Otherwise it's the stringers...which can be a major pain in the ass for morning show producers with constant annoying calls about selling dumpster fires and senseless drunk driving crashes....all while copping major attitude if you "pass" on the crappy shaky video. Here's to the morning show producers who have the most thankless job in the world. God bless you guys and Merry Christmas...if that's how you roll.

Look, If these regional and out of market produced newscast suck so bad then nobody will watch. I remember when KNBC was doing some of the WX for KNSD during the depression...it was sucky...people hated it. They noticed. When people demand a better local newscast they will get it. Affluent communities that can support decent local newscast get OK coverage, because they can support the ad base. Poor communities are going to get crappy coverage if they cannot support the local TV news outlets. The tide will turn as it always does. Happy Thanksgiving

And the networks have been doing this for about 90 years. Why would a newscast based in NYC be any different than one based in Fresno? There is no longer any need for being based in a particular city now we have the wonderful information super highway. No more MOS...just twitter quotes.

That's all? One stupid web article? How come WRAL didn't send out a live truck and reporter for this update? I would think after 2 months impasse on a multi-million dollar deal that it would be the lead story. I want to see some MOS from upset viewers who didn't get the Zoomies show or Cheaters. Where are the shots of viewers celebrating the return of TV? No parties?
