  1. 20 minutes? I'm assuming you don't live in the NY area. It starts at 8:30 and ends after noon. All names of everyone who died in both WTC bombings, as well as first responders who have died since due to health problems as a result of being at ground zero are read. The names are read by relatives - spouses, siblings, children and now children who add their own thoughts of the lost family member and how they are with them and shaped their lives, now 24 years later. Some of these are heartbreaking. It is not a 20 minute recognition. And for us locals, still mesmerizing and heartbreaking to watch. All morning programming (and commercials) are pre-empted which is why the question should every TV station continue to cover it from start to finish still is being asked. When 9/11 happened, local stations went on the air 24/7 for weeks, not carrying the network feeds and continuing past when regular programming was started elsewhere. In a word, this is uniquely New York.
  2. This is awful news. Sincrap now controls WjAR (NBC) and WLNE (ABC). Nexstar controls WPRI (CBS), WNAC (FOX) and the CW. There are no more independent voices in Rhode Island media. WJAR is nothing like its former self. Although WLNE has been a perennial also run since they signed on the air in the 60s, at least it was controlled by these mega broadcasters, who in Sinclair's case controls content. I assume the WLNE newsroom is gone. Another sad day in Rhode Island this week.
  3. 9/11 Ceremonies in the NYC area aren't going away. It's part of the fabric. It was real to us, whether we were in the City or not that day. I'm in NJ, but also on LI and throughout the 5 boroughs, there isn't a community that didn't lose someone. I remember it like it happened yesterday, as do most. I remember the caravan of ambulances racing into NY thinking there would be people to save. I remember the empty NJ turnpike, the black smoke off in the distance where the towers once stood, with no cell service until I got south of the airport. I remember being lucky I had cable, over the air broadcasting was lost when the towers came down. I remember the cars in the commuter lot up the street, left for months because their owners never came home. All that rushes through us each year. It is appropriate that each station honor the fallen (and the first responders and lower Manhattan residents still falling due to what they breathed in). And each station carrying it allows each of us to feel comfort in watching it on our preferred station, even though it is mostly a pool feed. Stations also go beyond the ground zero ceremonies, showing local ones held in most towns. Will at some point it move to a rotating schedule among stations, maybe, but not anytime soon. And we are fine with that. Today is a solemn day, and as I describe it the most surreal day of my life.
  4. Isn’t Jennings suspended from CNN (hopefully permanently)
  5. Although I personally agree with what Dowd said, there is a time to say that. Minutes after his shooting wasn't the time when (and still as of 6 am Thursday morning) we do not have any suspect as the shooter and what that person's motivation is. The more that is disclosed of how professional of a hit this was, puts a lot of doubt in mind. It also goes both ways. Folks on Fox News are pointing fingers without knowing the motivation, and we have a certain dictatorial type leader going on a bender video blaming the "radical left" and referring to a war. Those as well as at least one GOP member of Congress statements are equally wrong yet you can be assured none of them will be fired or criticized by segments of the population. Their comments were equally inappropriate. And many were lacking in comments or empathy when members of the other party have been assassinated (e.g. Minnesota) or attempted (e.g. Pennsylvania). Political violence is wrong no matter any way someone tries to justify it. Sadly, some people's messages including dear leader only incite than condemn. Dowd could have phrased it differently and been okay.
  6. What it will require is live immediate fact checking. That is a good thing.
  7. oops, its an autocorrect typo I did not check. Nexstar was the intended name. My apologies.
  8. Sadly, the protections that were put in place regarding non compete clauses, was reversed in the last couple of weeks. It could impact the ability to litigate this (though hopefully they do since this is extreme).
  9. So essentially because they believe puppet Barr and the MAGA FCC will remove all ownership levels, the scam of side car ownership is ending with so called sales to Sinclair (and eventually Netflix). The sadder news is that these two companies in particular, with Gray not too far behind, will control most television media outside of the top tier markets (where networks own most stations - Nexstar through their BS Mission side car owns the only non O&O station in my market, and they were ordered to divest it.). These really are not good moves for viewers, online, linear, streaming etc. Both these companies shut down and consolidate newsrooms. It doesn't matter which station they broadcast the news on, its the same news and slants.
  10. All 50 of them, the reality is their ratings are anemic.
  11. I didn’t know TVGuode was still around with local listings. Checking my programming guide in Optimum, and assuming WABC will as well, the only local commercial stations not broadcasting the ceremonies are wasteland WWOR (Fox owned) and WLNY (CBS owned). In reality they all show the same feed and insert their memorial list of names with their respective graphics.
  12. It seems Paramount is buying the "Free Press" and installing Bari Weiss to head up CBS News and change its focus to meet her vision and direction. RIP CBS News. Ironic you brought it up.
  13. Is it me or do Sinclair sets underwhelm - look kind of on the cheap.
  14. I had my first experience with one of Nester's station + apps today while trying to watch the funeral of Judge Frank Caprio (Caught in Providence) this morning on the WPRI+ app via Apple TV. One word: disaster. The stream started and then for a time got that blasted circle came on as the picture froze like it was trying to download - yet there were no internet issues. Then at one point a set of automated ads kicked in. WTF? Finally it streamed most of the service and near the end the blasted ads showed up and the beginning of some useless restaurant show. Someone must have caught it and it went back to the funeral feed. Fine and then all of a sudden, more ads and the whole funeral began to be repeated. I'm sorry but I give Nexstar and WPRI (which controls CBS, CW, Fox and more in the market) an F. Not a positive streaming experience to say the least. What is scary, this company wants to control all tv stations in most markets. Yikes.
  15. The 4th floor studio is used for some MSNBC programming and Deadline. I highly doubt NBC will reverse the changes in 3B with WNBC and T47 splitting it and having some common off camera areas in 3B in addition to the shared newsroom/operations on the second floor. As NBC expands NBC News Now more studio space may be needed. With the decline of outside street side studios (crowds are way down except for concerts or a high profile guest) they can also follow ABC and CBS with converting 3A into a shared Today/Nightly News set. Note for many years in the 60s and 70s, they shared a studio. I'm sure the suits and facility staff are looking at the options and don't expect it to be an empty studio forever or one they lease out.
  16. Her personal business is not our business. She deserves her privacy. That's between her and her employer. I'm assuming you have never lost a close relative like a spouse, sibling or parent. The time to heal varies person by person and the relationship with the deceased. With small kids, I can imagine it's even more complicated. I hope she is getting the compassion and support she needs from family, friends and colleagues. It's not any of our business. I hope when you need it, you have an employer that is patient and supportive as you go through all the different stages of grieving.
  17. The Hill, historically center right, was unbiased. Since bought be Nexstar, they have made a far right turn, often serving up propaganda or bias supporting this regime. It's not the same objective source as it used to be. Often they just prevent one side, trump's side, which is far from unbiased. It is a shame. But it is a watch out in terms of how Nexstar creates coverage that they subtly curry favor.
  18. Newsmax is far from a liberal group. Far right/MAGA, friend of trump. Wherever Nexstar operates with more than one station, they close down newsrooms and consolidate. The same news is broadcast on multiple stations. Local newsroom voices get deleted. That’s not good.
  19. But those are in a few locations. The local alternative here just publishes press releases, or says an accident happened. They are NOT substitutes for good reporting across the country. Many areas are news deserts as Alden and Fortress close papers and slim down the rest, including reporting news 2-3 days after it happens. The competition Nexstar claims is weaker today than even 5 years ago.
  20. That does beg the question, how leveraged will Nexstar be after purchasing Tegna, and with declining ad revenue and limited reach due to duplication on Nexstar stations except for network and maybe syndicated shows, how long until the entire thing collapses when they can't pay back the loans? I'm sure by that time Perry Sook will take his windfall and leave so others have to pick up the mess.
  21. This administration strategy is F the judges.
  22. All you need to do is look at what Nexstar has turned "The Hill" into - more propaganda for the regime than anything else. Now they want to control all TV news to be the same.
  23. I would assume any relaxed rules will get rid of the obsolete UHF discount, and if so, Nexstar's current coverage would jump up without Tenga, and that could definitely result in station sales even with a higher cap.
  24. Why, so Nexstar, who already runs on the Cheapside, "consolidates" newsrooms and constantly rebroadcast the same news over multiple departs and stations can do the same for another hour? It's not like the Nexstars and Sinclairs come up with real unique programming that has staying power.
  25. trump's ego loves when he is the center of attention, whether good or bad. He wants people talking about him. And if it's not in his favor, he gets to grandstand about it. It is his form of self gratification. Just like the North Korea style praise he gets from all around him. He literally gets off on it. And many have found it to be a smart strategy to get his positive attention including the Europeans the other day. He will milk Colbert's satire until the lights at the Ed Sullivan Theater are shut off.
