In the market I grew up in, Nexstar (or one of its sidecars) controls 3 stations. It's just one newsroom, and the same news program repurposed over and over again. The other major station is owned by Sinclair, and is a shell of itself. How this is in the public interest to have such consolidation of news, considering alternatives like newspapers are pretty dead thanks to consolidation and cuts by either Alden or Fortress (dba as Gatehouse/Gannett). A 15 sec Tik Tok video from a questionable source is not a credible replacement for all the newsrooms cut. I can't see how this is good news from a viewer's standpoint.

Exactly. There is no chance there is any confusion, as MS has been in the name since the network debuted. I have an MS and a certification, so I hope the 5 letters after my name doesn't hurt people's brains.

It does take away a certain authoritarian's nickname of the channel.

Sinclair Broadcast Group - General Discussion
NowBergen replied to Smitha A's topic in Corporate Chat
They clearly were unsuccessful with that plan, which puts a lot of doubt on the entire station group. The reduced valuation of their stations is partly their own doing. -
NY does now have one other than News12(location) which is live 30 minutes, repeated for hours, and NY1. Neither are "over the air, licensed, etc) like WANF, WPLG,...

What is the difference between local news live and WANF news live? A name?

But he now works for ABC and had been in the Miami market so a familiarity with viewers.
-
ABC pulling out the promotional guns using former reporters./anchors that now work for Disney/ABC but were previously in Miami.
-
He works for ABC through WABC, so I would consider this part of ABC's promotional campaign.
-
The fact he used Newsmax to announce this is all you need to know about his motivation.

Yes they switched to these on Monday. Other NBC O7Os do this. The white flag was the more striking aspect. They said that there would be a lot of integration between the two newsrooms. About 2 weeks ago a T47 reporter did a report on NBC4. It makes sense.

Yes but has continually been maintained. Comcast/UniversalNBC bought most of the floors NBC and NBCUniversal occupy (the remaining floors are owned by a real estate firm) and have received many city benefits to maintain the upkeep and upgrades as needed. Because of the building's landmark status, it cannot be left to go to crap, and all changes NBC makes are reviewed and approved. This includes the changes made to house both WNBC and T47 in Studio 3B, as well as their new high tech newsroom on the 2nd floor. Although some studios occupy old radio studio footprints, the building is a far cry from the original look or even when converted for mostly tv broadcasting in the 40s. It helps it was originally built as a broadcast facility, as compared to CBS whose facility was a dairy. Today, most NBCU east coast operations are at 30 Rock, the exceptions being NBC Sports (Stamford) and pre spinoff CNBC in Englewood Cliffs (which serves as soon to be Versant cable channels transmission hub) now that T47 has been relocated to 30 Rock.

I'm not sure comparing what happened to the Smothers Brothers in the 60s to this situation is valid. TV was different back then, and conservative (remember, married couples could not sleep in the same bed, children just magically happened). The Smothers Brothers kept pushing the limits with their anti Vietnam war stance beyond the accepted network standards back then. and had already worried Paley et al. CBS News was top rated, with Walter Cronkite perceived as the authority of news, the most trusted person in America. President Johnson worked quietly to pressure CBS but they already had been on thin ice. Today, CBS is in the midst of a pending merger, just gave in to the authoritarian's extortion when they did nothing wrong, and is the object of constant criticism by him and his followers, as well as his taking victory laps today and naming his next target. Two very different situations. The issue is CBS didn't appear to do anything to improve the financials. The savings from ending the franchise, ending the talent contracts, terminating all others (and probably selling the Ed Sullivan Theater) was too enticing. The problem is it was done in the face of all the other crap and it makes most very skeptical that it had nothing to do with it.

After they paid trump's extortion, their credibility isn't all that high. This is a coincidence to be very skeptical of. Worse, trump is all over social media celebrating.

It probably depends on market and how well funded they are from outside sources. I just read a state PBS/NPR in a small state but medium sized city will lose about 10% funding. My gut says that may be an low estimate but time will tell. That's bad, but not a kiss of death. Big market stations will need to do more fundraising but can probably survive. The real issue is money for program acquisition. Small markets/stations will have the toughest time as the federal funding makes up a much bigger part of their budgets and the ability for big donor fundraising in those markets is limited at best. When WNET first went on the air, the local network owned stations all contributed to the start up costs to get it on the air. Some media companies may consider some level of support to support the public interest - just not at levels lost by this action.

Based on the "audience" numbers for Merit Street, it does not seem many wanted to find him. Some people just don't know how to read a room. If he has money to burn, that's his problem.

More staffing announcements for the soon to be independent MSNBC, including Marc Santia of WNBC moving to MSNBC as an investigative reporter. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/business/business-news/new-msnbc-white-house-correspondents-1236301824/#recipient_hashed=2f7cb34ffeaa3e39a87d758a6ae607df33e2f08d8c096f9b797f49f20b59fc68&recipient_salt=df67624928cc1bda6f060918e6afb0f265976cd8e5e36f75d381be50544f5d3c&utm_medium=email&utm_source=exacttarget&utm_campaign=Breaking News&utm_content=618232_07-01-2025&utm_term=17980216&utm_medium=email&utm_source=exacttarget&utm_campaign=1751378363-Breaking+News&utm_content=618232_7-1-2025&utm_id=618232

It was a live news event. I'm sure Carr will not investigate airing what trump says, considering he is his puppet.
-
I don’t know. I turned it on at 5 and thought it was the wrong station due to ads.

Is something going on with News 4 NY studio tonight? The 5 pm show started about 5 min late after several commercials. It was mostly Gilma delivering her script over video and the sound was off. When Gilma was finally on, it was a close in shot that looked more from the newsroom with the background than the actual set. Halfway through the Combs story report, the sound cleared up, including when it was thrown back to Gilma. We'll see if they are in the studio once they are back from more commercials but something definitely seemed off.

I'm not sure why the level of surprise here. One of the many reasons for the new building was to provide more studio space for shows originating from NY whether live or taped. It's not unique. Out of 30 Rock right now (which will change somewhat at the end of the year with the Versant spin-off) shows include from NBC: Early Today, Today, NBC News Now (most of the day and early evening), Kelly Clarkson, NBC Nightly News, Tonight with Jimmy Fallon, Late Night with Seth Meyers; From WNBC: TINY, News4 at 11, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 11, New York Live; From WNJU: Noticiero 47 Telemundo Primera edición, Noticiero 47 Telemundo al mediodiá, Noticiero 47 Telemundo a la 5:30, 6 and 11; From MSNBC: Way too early, Morning Joe, Ana Cabrera Reports, Chris Jansing Reports, Katie Tur Reports, Deadline White House, The Beat with Ari Melber, All in with Chris Hayes, Last Word with Lawrence O'Donnell and the 11th Hour with Stephanie Ruhle. MSNBC shows originating in DC may still use 30 Rock facilities for live/taped interviews during those shows. This does not include weekly shows like Saturday Night Live and Dateline.

Honestly, with ABC’s full capitulation including terminating reporters still dedicated to facts and truth due to criticism of this president smells of authoritarianism. How can ABC News maintain any trust? And worse, Shari Redstone seems intent on settling his bogus claim and destroying CBS News in the process.
-
Let me guess, anchors give a few words with video, no in-depth coverage.
-
There may have been some personal issues behind it, or a negotiation with ABC. Neither of which need to become public. Whatever, I'd just accept the decision.
