1. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6rtLr0wbXVU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RHYwUwk7yIw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g5Pdka_URJQ A string of WLOS reports from 1996-97 during their “Counterpoint” phase. Judging by their L3’s WLOS must’ve used an EQ Vance package. Paging @Ramona who I know can identify Vance packages... If only there were opens... I legit love the Greenville-Spartanburg market and want to do compilations for it, but there’s just not enough for me to dig through. Salt Lake City is in that rut along with Omaha.
2. Btw while making the WTNH compilation I stumbled upon the MCTYW/John Young VO open on the NMSA:
3. Up next... Connecticut! WFSB’s always had some great station imaging over the years IMO.
4. Has anyone stumbled upon this? It’s a KARK blooper tape from 1984 (I actually think it’s earlier than that), on Ron Gardner leaving the anchor desk and disappearing. In reality Ron went to former KARK sister station KOCO, and was replaced with DJ Bob Vernon, who himself also came from a post-Gannett station, WLKY.
5. Remember the days when Chapin would go completely berserk when he told you what was coming up on the news?
6. WMTW intro to the end of this video.... new theme??
7. And currently Morgan Murphy’s been doing NOTHING with them lately. Seems like all they care about is WISC... Next up... Louisiana’s NewsChannel!
8. Yeah that sucks. Videos being pulled really annoy me when I make these compilations. For example Video Archaeology had a boatload of Charlotte, NC clips until they got taken down, which is part of the reasons why I’m not doing Charlotte. It’s market #22 and they’ve got an archive the size of a market in the 90s! I’ve also had yet to find some WBRE clips from the 80s on YT as well, which I assume also got pulled (did they?). I wanted to do compilations them, WYOU and WOLF to go with the WNEP compilation made back in February. Please ping me if you find any. This week I will be finishing Spokane and, starting Wednesday, Baton Rouge with WBRZ (kudos to jacky9br’s mound of vintage BR material!)
9. I’ve updated the WFLA news opens compilation to include opens from the WXFL days.
10. (10:23) It appears (judging by the L3’s) KXLY used the same package as WBRE during its “Signature” era (which strangely people have nothing of). And speaking of KXLY....
11.
WANE News 15 1985 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-SWjHvKZ42Q WESH 2 News 1993 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vzevrLVRdP4 KNXV News 15 1994 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VltFl_HbQZo
Lest we not forget how badass “News 15” was until Michael Kronley snaked his way in there in 1996... Also, @NESTLEH has got some compilations up his sleeve too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fdwXWduavvk
12. Also... Fort Myers! And jacky9br is back with some La Crosse, Wisconsin: There’s also some Shreveport, New Orleans, and Monroe in there, of course.
13. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tBEcO4Nta9Y Hey @SoFloTVClassics you wanted it, you got it.
14. How did we miss this??? The KTEW Newscenter 2 opening on the NMSA with “Gathering Crowds”!
15. That imaging song sounded so catchy that I uploaded it myself: Also a WRC weekend open from 1984, featuring Mike Hambrick (who later returned to DC at WJLA) and Scott Clark before his big break finally establishing continuity to WABC’s sports department:
16. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tWuYueOhxF8 A WAAY show from August 1993. That same channel has that WINK newscast I’ve been looking for, too, which @SoFloTVClassics already posted on here.
17. Here it is! I’ve saved this video to my drive so I can re-post if it gets pulled.
18. A few months ago a January 2001 WBTV newscast popped up using “Right Here, Right Now”, long before KFMB debuted it (they still had “Impact” as late as July): From what I’m guessing, possibly WBTV commissioned RHRN instead of KFMB.
19. WRDQ will be in a separate compilation. They had more than WKCF anyways, I found out. After Pittsburgh/Orlando I might do Fort Myers, rounding out all the major markets in Florida. I still want that WINK 1993-95 open that got uncovered on this thread, if anyone can find it please send it to me. I also chose Fort Myers because it’s one of the only markets nowadays that has all of its “Big Three” stations owned by local companies. Though hopefully WBBH/WZVN don’t get gobbled by another company since Bernie Waterman passed on... And speaking of Pittsburgh, KDKA has a mean history of pulling off any videos related to them on YouTube, so I’ll have to be wary of that...
20. Took me a while but here it is - 20 mins worth of Pittsburgh news history!
21. He must’ve been sports director between Stu Klitenic (who left to do weekend sports at WSB and later stuck in Atlanta to voice Braves games) and, Greg, er... PETE Peterson (which I’m sure was KTVI management wanting to jazz his name up to grab viewer’s attention).
22. In memory of KUSI anchor David Davis. Killed in a car crash too soon. (Sadly couldn’t find a pre-2008 vid of him - how long was he at KUSI??)
23. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Nbz73KhZfY The latest from Orlando - pinging @NESTLEH cause I know he wanted me to do this.
24. They were both owned by Allbritton Communications, so no surprise. And was that theme at WJLA by 1983? Wikipedia says they made the “7”’s edges sharper by ‘84, when that theme was in use. They also went through an... interesting image change in the 1984-87 period, which you can see in my compilation up there. They had the 1984 package with the ugly red set, a 1985 package with “So Good To Turn To” returning after a few years, returning to the 1984 pack by ‘86, and then ditching everything altogether by 1987.
