1. The ads are horribly misdated- that KVUE Ernest promo is from their post-Gannett acquisition years, which is definitely not 1982. My guess is 1986 or 1987. And that KTVV clip from 1985 is very weird. My guess is that they had a previous package with that logo before this one:
2. Was totally expecting no open, of course, but Gary Rebstock??? Also a promo at 10:13 is voiced by Brian James. Also this might’ve been their open... Note the L3’s are same in this newscast
3. Must’ve been from the same company. Similar graphics were also used at KTVX circa late 90s: And I believe maybe KPHO’s “Fresh News” package: If that’s the case for the latter, this company probably was a Meredith client, except I don’t think WNEM used similar graphics (they were instead using ones similar to KTUL and I believe they kept them until 1996):
4. I dig this WCCO open from 1996! Very mind-blowing.
5. A KTUL early 90’s clip of Judd Hambrick interviewing Tulsa news legend Jack Morris
6. A WDEF report from April 1997, good example of their last year using the “12” logo from the 1960s
7. Wells himself also did some voices for WKYC until late 1989, as they were using Lewis by the San Francisco earthquake
8. WNYT’s Dan Bazile has left to anchor Spectrum News in the area, possibly after being passed up by Asa Stackel for the morning job. Veteran reporter Dan Levy is filling in currently.
9. Geez, how many opens was WAGA using throughout the 90s?
10. Louis de la Foret a.k.a. Lou Forrest reports WVUE Newscene 8 in 1974:
11. WOI reveals its 1991 open at 25:27... that’s not News Leader I don’t think....
12. I wonder what Jack Williams’ reaction is to this... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XejWcyFBlog WLEX used Fleetwood Mac’s “Gypsy” as it news close theme for a time in the 80s.
13. I just noticed the NMSA put in the WBRZ 1983 Theme under WFSB. Did they actually use this theme or was it a Klein & campaign?
14.
It ain't pretty, but I will take it. KTVX News at 10 using First News in 1992...as seen in Vancouver! @Info Junkie https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=n1fr4Liueus;t=179 Worth noting: looks like the change to this logo occurred in 1991.
So my theory was correct! I figured it had to be a Non-Stop track, as they were based in Utah, and I believe that logo change happened when Randall Carlisle joined the anchor desk in 1991 (around December) and lasted till late ‘93/Early ‘94 when they debuted “Total News”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7s0kDpVMjvk Edit: Looks like the logo was used as early as August: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=byIimaeybVs
15. I recall Raymie posting a KPLR article on the Discovered Composers Thread a while ago on a new KPLR look coming in April 1995. Could the package they used during “Impact” been that look?
16. So you’re saying it could be a Tvbd package? Well they may not have KFOR on their client list, neither do they have WXIA, which we all know was one of their first clients. And I’m sure that look introduced after the call change was to purposely not just knock-off KOCO but also to ratings challenge them — Peters even was responsible for both of their brandings! KREM open at the end
17. A WHEC newscast end with a WTOG-TV, Inc. copyright stamp.
18. Gee, how many VO’s was Channel 2 using at the time? You got Roger Thompson dubbing over the open, Dude Walker providing the station’s commercial breaks, and Ed O’Brien on the news promos. They should’ve just kept Dude Walker!
19. And I guess that open style followed him up to Buffalo & then Fresno?
20. That set... Its so... ORANGE! Also glad to have you back Jim! Excited to see what rare goodies you have up your archive sleeves...
21. The “officially” first time KOVR 1987 material has seen YouTube!
22. Interesting.... Vintage Raleigh, NC clips
23. He must’ve been short-lived, as by the summer of 1992 Danny Dark began doing the open VO’s. Also why is Jim Tilmon doing 10PM weather and not John Coleman? Maybe he replaced him for a short time before Brant Miller took over, but I’m no Chicago news geek. And what job did Brandon Brooks have at WNYT for how long? I’d assume he was a reporter.
24. Yet they’re news open creativity has exploded...
