I noticed the WFLA GFX had similar vibes to WWMT’s 1996 pack. I believe both were VDO jobs? Take a look at the L3 similarities: They also had that “camera lens” graphic as well that I associate with the 90s.

A WNYT montage from 1986 revealing more of their set from the 1980s. This was the time period when Ed Dague solo-anchored the news and the station was in its stages trying to beat ratings king WRGB.

Phone call for NMSA - it’s confirmed KRDO used the WRAL 1982 Theme!
-
If you listen closely, (I believe) KJRH used Soundtrack’s The Image Leader before they switched to WWL News: And here’s a KETV news brief that proves it used the KSNW 1985 Theme waaaayyyy past its bedtime: I suspected that. A fellow YouTuber told me that he watched KETV back then and they used the KSNW Theme from 1983 to 1988, and then switched to what is known as the KETV 1989 Theme afterward.

Let’s ring the Discovered Composers thread.

Why? So they couldn’t hear Chapin yell the last names of the anchors? Here’s a KENS intro from 1979: And a WTVR open from the same channel:

A WJLA clip from 1983 on smoking. A WJLA clip from 1983 on smoking.

KJEO from 1995 at 2:13 - featuring a young Lucy Noland!

https://archive.org/details/paymar_jimsdubmasteranchor I accidentally posted these in the international thread due to my habit of clicking on the Classic Vid category tab without knowing what thread it is. Anyway these are a set of KRON opens I haven’t seen before. Sister station WOWT had a similar set, with a shot of their control room:

And I can guess where they all came from - Iola from Dallas, Kevin from Cleveland (he was at WKYC in 1980), Stu from Detroit and Miles from New Orleans. Hiring out-of-towners really didn’t do much for KTVI. Miles was gone a year later in favor of Dave Murray, who was previously at KSDK. And that move has paid off after 30 years.

The Ever-Evolving Gray Graphics Situation...Thread
Info Junkie replied to NEOMatrix's topic in Graphics
BEAUTIFUL. Honestly if I could redo my favorite news opens list this would be a dead lock in my Top 10. -
A WYFF weekend newscast from 1996 featuring KOCO’s Tyler Suiters on sports. Second to WTMJ this is one of John Christopher Burns’ best design concepts.

Watch out world, Houston’s coming BACK!
-
And plus millions of (possibly) other stations too.... A WNYT interview circa 2005 on Donald Trump visiting Albany, followed by a promo on the Catholic Church (features the “LIVE, LOCAL, LATEBREAKING” tag under the News Channel 13 logo).

Honestly I’m kinda mad at myself cause I went through those videos while I was making the WOI compilation - and didn’t even bother looking hard enough to find the 1980 open! Also @Ntropolishas found an article on WTKR’s 1994 botched tabloid relaunch with the (possibility) unknown GFX company that I’ve been looking for identified! https://www.dailypress.com/news/dp-xpm-19940910-1994-09-10-9409100141-story.html

LOVE the KXTV 1986 Theme (really should be 1984) cut at the beginning of that KXTV close. A curious look at KOAA’s news in 2001, almost three months before becoming “News First.”

@KnoxvilleTVFan When is the set SET (heh heh) to debut? I ask cause I am going to do a news open montage for WATE in the future and I want to upload it once the set premieres.

Live 5 News Nightwatch!!!!
-
Ken Watts went to WAGA afterwards, which itself launched a 5pm newscast in January 1988... with ANOTHER new open set? AND Ernie Anderson NOT on an ABC station?!!!!!
-
Tribute to the late Chris Corley. Godspeed.

I have made a demo reel featuring some news opens (I believe) to be designed by some unknown graphics company from the mid 1990s. I’ve been researching about this company’s whereabouts for years and haven’t found any luck.

I’ve updated the WTSP compilation since I’ve been watching WTSP clips on YT lately - yesterday I was humming The Hour and Great News in class! @8Viewer On side note, I believe ‘TSP re-composed the Hour around 1990/91 to use the classic Gari 1990s synthesizer music. Wish we had a clean cut if so.

Those anchors turn too fast!!!!!!! Also Rebecca Kolls - known as Rebecca Reheis when she worked at KTVX. And I’m guessing this design was a One80 job. Very well done indeed.

IS THAT HIM?!!!????? @Ramona

KWCH’s 1991 newscast has been reuploaded by @WFTV Channel 9. Godspeed Houston TV News’ channel.
