  1. CBS stations are really trying, the question is are their efforts paying off ratings wise. (I'm Not sure where KPIX stands in that regard).
  2. Speaking in generalities, high newsroom turnover is usually indicative of inadequate pay or a toxic work environment.
  3. David Muir substitute hosting "World News" as early as 2006
  4. Part of me wonders if they don't care that they'll lose in the ratings, and they just want to see whatever ad revenue they can grab.
  5. I really did not like their early 2010s set. The view sets were stronger when the living rooms had depth rather than relying on video walls.
  6. Finally because their set looked very outdated. Hopefully their new set draws inspiration from WTTG, which to me is the best looking Fox O&O.
  7. Fingers crossed that WABC will finally have a great set! The View's current set is really good. Hopefully the new one is a replica or just as good. I'd really like to see them recreate the realistic living room set they had in their first few seasons
  8. I hate to be negative, but given how unstable the CBSEN is I wouldn't advise Maurice to cut all ties with CBS 2 for national. I opt for Dick Brennan as evening anchor. He's got tons of personality and really good chemistry with Kristine. Give Cindy Hsu the Noon on top of the 9 am since Chris & or Mary anchor multiple shows between 4:30a and 12p. Wow, first Dana Tyler now Maurice's promotion. Big year at CBS 2.
  9. Wondering that too: will Maurice leave WCBS? Breaking news and traveling for national stories might limit his WCBS position unless they have Dickerson handling that. Then again...in the 60s, as mentioned before, CBS anchors also carried national duties. On NBC in the 90s, Matt Lauer and Al Roker held positions on Today and WNBC's Live at 5 simultaneously. Double duty is possible, the exception is Lauer & Roker weren't NBC's main anchors. True. In all fairness WNT, NNN, and CBSEN are nearly identical so taking a page from PBS shouldn't be too awful.
  10. 1A needs furniture. The current set is barren floor of cheap looking video walls. The only update since 2014 that looks good is the anchor desk facing the window in the world. Permanent set pieces coupled with a flexible video wall is a good medium.
  11. I see your point on Dickerson. I don't think sexism has any basis here. Very few news anchor teams are dual male anymore in this country. On two stints CBS had failed solo female anchors (Couric, O'Donnell), so we can't say they didnt try. Not to mention Gayle King, Jane Pauley and Margaret Brennan in leading anchor roles. At this point it's cool to see two males behind the anchor desk because it's so foreign. I think this instance is less about representation and more about who can carry the broadcast.
  12. Wow! sensed Maurice's profile rising! As predicted John Dickerson is involved. Again seems like a nice guy but he's iffy as an anchor as evidenced by his CBS This Morning tenure. Hate to be a negative nancy but I don't see this lasting.
  13. This coupled with the news that Maurice will be a part of the CBSEN overhaul! Their profiles have really risen in the last year after YEARS on the local anchor desk!
  14. I understand the logic for a permanent younger anchor so that they last long-term. But, if somebody is only filling in once, there's no harm in letting the veterans take a stab at it. And veteran subs won't necessarily be a test run for the main anchor chair, it's just giving the audience some well-known faces in the interim. And I just want to see them do it lol.
  15. On that same note, Gayle King has done a good job of establishing herself as the "Barbara Walters" of CBS. Saying Nora's leaving to focus on big interviews smells like when Ann Curry was leaving Today to be a part of a "globe trekking news team".
  16. Maybe some people thought rotating anchors is going to be long term/permanent that's why they were against it? I was thinking that initially. My list for fill ins: Ted Koppel, Lesley Stahl, Jane Pauley, Gayle King, Rita Braver, Nate Burleson My list for permanent anchor: Shepard Smith, Brian Williams, Anderson Cooper. (Wildcards: Wolf Blitzer, Chris Wallace). Maybe it's just me but did anyone find Scott Pelley kind of stiff as anchor?
  17. If the program moves back to New York hopefully they can do a recreation of the DC set backdrop. The dim blue world map video wall is really the best looking of the evening news shows right now. Would be a shame to see that no longer in use.
  18. I Forgot to mention...Anderson Cooper. Not sure if he's still a 60 minutes contributor but he's established presence familiar with CBS. He's got the roving anchorman in a black T-shirt experience of David Muir, and the calming stoicism of Lester Holt. The only problem is he wouldn't be cheap and I don't think Paramount wants to spend money right now. Instead of this musical anchor chairs CBSEN could have stuck with Bob Schiffer for the 10 years until his retirement and then went with someone else.
  19. I feel like that would amount to a Jeff Glor 2.0 situation. Moderately known, middle aged, all American anchorman who gets the job done but ends up gone in a few years. The advantage that ABC and NBC have is that they have well groomed anchor talent waiting in the reserves. If David & Lester were to quit tomorrow, Tom Llamas, Savannah Guthrie, Peter Alexander, or George Stephanopoulos, Lindsay Davis and Whit Johnson could step in ASAP.
  20. If you scroll up you would have read the post (that I just tagged below) which questioned if it is typical for Fox stations to be #1 in their markets. A wide assumption is that ABC NBC and CBS stations are often (not always) the top three in their markets. I basically responded to the poster by saying though it goes against conventional assumptions, there are examples such as in Miami where the Fox station is number one.
  21. I'm not disagreeing that the CW is a weak television network. I'm saying that that WBFS would lose to WSVN in the ratings NOT ONLY because of weak CW lead-ins, but ALSO because WSVN is a more popular station.
  22. Going to have to respectfully disagree with this one. This is definitely a case of station branding over lead ins. Channel 7 is still the #2 English language station despite weak lead ins from Fox. It's a strong station with a well known solid anchor team at 10:00 p.m. despite not quite having the energy it used to. IMO Ch's 10 & 7 outdo Ch's 6 & 4 because of the tabloid newscast appetite in Miami. The latter have more standard clean cut corporate broadcasts. Moreover the WBFS newscast would be produced by WFOR which is the last place station in Miami (despite CBS at one point being the #1 television network).
  23. According to next TV Fox 59 is the first place in Indianapolis. It is unusual for a Fox station to be #1, but looking at Miami, WSVN was market leader for years.
  24. Only to not win in the ratings.
  25. I was just thinking about how long Nora has been in the role and how long she's going to last. She's not that remarkable as evening host, but CBS doesn't have anyone so they might as well stick with her. Would love to see her on back CBS Mornings but they're overcrowded now. Unless it's going to be Brian Williams or Shepherd Smith I'm disinterested. Do not do the rotating anchor method, people want a leading familiar face on the Evening/breaking news. If we are rotating, I'd like to see Ted Koppel there two times a week lol. No hate, but I hope they do not put John Dickerson in the role. He seems like a nice guy who's knowledgeable of politics but he does not have the personality to be an anchor even though they keep forcing him into anchor roles.
