Peter Jennings 9/11 kids Q&A session. (9/15/01)
-
What do you think would have happened to Kristine in that case? Laid off or relegated to field reporting?
-
This is not a bad idea. GMA First Look would roll of the tounge better though.
-
So that breaks up WCBS's leading team assuming they were moving the needle. From this I'm jumping to the conclusion that Dana Tyler's ouster was moreso a cost cutting measure than ratings.
-
Not a rule just a preference... I think there's generally better energy with dual anchors on a local broadcast.
-
Has WCBS or CBS News announced the future changes on air yet? Getting way ahead of myself here but.. if Maurice decides he can't pull double duty longterm, and if Lonnie's role expands, would CBS be willing to destabilize 2/3rds of its flagship station's A team to propel it's fluid flagship national broadcast. Again, big promotions but I would keep my WCBS job on the back burner since that has lasted way longer than the last few tenures at CBSEN.

The new L3s aren't bad, I prefer the old ones because they were a departure from the ubiquitous white box look. The old graphics just needed some luster and needed to not be red all the time.

It's not hard, it's just cheaper. I do agree that newscast voiceovers (and talent opens) add extra flavor. Look at how much Scott Chapin's voice added to WSVN or Howard Reig's raspy voiceovers for NBC.

Chuck Scarborough & Sue Simmons anchoring News Channel 4's Live at 5 on 9/11. It's always interesting to see how much or how little of network coverage aired in NYC. WSVN 9/11/01. The station alternates between local coverage and fox news channel coverage. You seldom see them use any Fox News stuff now. https://youtu.be/0dH9Y7346Po?si=Fga84QO_bA8ky73s

Agreed. Of the big 3 I think ABC is strongest in terms of on air talent. They are the weakest journalistically however, given their flare for entertainment and tabloid stories. Examples being WNT, 20/20 and GMA. While CBS is the weakest personality wise, they are the best in journalistic quality as evidenced by Sunday Morning, 60 Minutes, and CBS Mornings. NBC is a good medium between the two.

KTLA is basically NY 1 except all live with sprinkles of syndicated and network prime time programming. Simply excessive. And again, the crazy part is I don't think they are doing panel discussions/interviews (outside of the AM) like CNN to fill airtime. Its all vo/sots and packages.

Copy. Was asking because in the multiple YouTube clips I'm seeing of 6:00 p.m. broadcasts, as well as a few times I've watched when I'm in NYC, I see no Bill.
-
With David and Linsey presumably resting after the debate, Martha Raddatz alongside Jonathan Karl, Rachael Scott and Mary Bruce lead ABC coverage.
-
Video that really explains the CW's current lot, Especially since the Nexstar takeover.
-
If the multiple buyouts were done as a financial move, would it not further hurt them financially to have lower ratings because people's favorite personalities are gone? *This assuming those anchors moved the needle.*

TEGNA Broadcasting and Digital General Discussion
MediaZone4K replied to ABC 7 Denver's topic in Corporate Chat
I don't mind court show repeats because many of the scenarios are evergreen. To me it wouldn't make sense for a show with thousands of episodes to disappear from television because they aren't making new ones. It would suck for shows with an extensive library like Judge judy or Mathis to just sit in a basement and collect dust. If we can watch both shows forever on youtube we might as well play them on tv since syndication options are low.- 3706 replies

Interesting watch. Adam Conover argues that Netflix swindled consumers with its cheap $8 offering, helped kill the traditional TV model, and now that it has the lion's share of streaming viewers, it's jacking up prices and adding advertisements---its plan all along. Conover also claims their method of dropping the entire seasons at once to encourage binge-watching is causing Netflix's constant show cancellation problem. Why?: full season releases causes a season to stay relevant for a few days then fizzle. Conversely weekly releases keeps momentum and attention around a show. I think Power on Starz is a good example of that. Conover also concludes that streaming services are collapsing because audiences like free content, which made the ad subsidized network television popular. A future where all of television is multiple paid streaming services is not sustainable.

Late to the party but does Bill not do 6:00 p.m. anymore?
-
I fully support The Gates being only 30 minutes but based on previous reporting I thought it will be an hour, fully occupying The Talk's slot. I also wouldn't mind a third hour of CBS Mornings as opposed to a hard newscast or local newscast, but I dont see the CBS stations with 3pm newscasts canceling them to accommodate an expanded CBS Daytime. IMO, CBS is the best of a bad bunch among daytime tv right now.

Im surprised Nate Burleson wasn't tapped for that since he seems to be the more popular between the two --due in part to his cool fashion.

Nice, it would be cool if they brought back the jingle in a non-corny way. Would also be cool if the New York type face below the 4 was cursive again

TEGNA Broadcasting and Digital General Discussion

The new graphics are too big and distracting. They occupy too much of the lower third of the screen. I liked that the previous graphics were minimalistic and not too huge. I think these were Tegna's best graphics, minus the distracting upcoming headlines bar below. It was dark, slightly translucent, and compact.- 3706 replies

The only thing I like that Scripps is doing right now is the cinematic style of shooting with their newscast packages. It feels slower than a traditional newscast but still shot well.

I think CNN has three options. 1) tow the centrist line that NewsNation is doing but lacks the brand recognition to pull off. 2) Fully adopt the leftist partisanship that is making MSNBC more successful. 3) Ramp up international coverage to make it America's go to source for world news. Bonus ..or CNN could just go away Again, CNN's top problem (in primetime at least) is that they lack on air personality that can develop an audience and sell products like books and podcasts. Fox News and MSNBC excell at this. But to CNN and Fox's credit they attempt to break away for headline coverage unlike MSNBC which is nearly all politics (Trump).
