WAGA needs a total studio overhaul. I wish they'd get something like their sister station in Washington. DC, WTTG. AGA's bare blue video walls look odd. I do like the 7-9 am portion of Atlanta News First. It feels a little lighter in tone than those first 2 hours of Good Day ATL. What is the exact anchor arrangement? I thought it was Brooks and Lana anchor together but last week I saw Brooks & Gurvir together then Lana and another gentleman at 8a.

Overall, it's very similar to what they had before. I think the look as a whole needs an overhaul. The NBC bug without the white lining looks too cheap and 2D. I'd add some some translucence to the L3, it's very solid.

Agreed. In that case, 6-7 am, 6pm and Night

When are live field reports actually necessary? The obvious answer is breaking news and quickly developing situations. Background: In watching smaller markets like Albany, NY I've noticed most field reports are packaged. Stations there often only go live if the story warrants it. In bigger markets like Atlanta, reporters often introduce stories live rather than packaged, despite a lack of new developments. Example, WAGA's Eric Perry did a great live report about a homeowner who fought off two carjackers with his gun. As much as I love the theatrics of him being live in front of the bullet written car, because there were no new developments, the story could have been packaged. Especially in an era where people consume the news on their various mobile devices after the fact, are live field shots overused and do they only be done when needed?

What puzzles me is still beginning the news at 4/4:30 a.m. on major holidays holidays like Thanksgiving or Christmas where people aren't going to work. I would assume this is for continuity sake or ad dollars?

Having John in the weekday slot again would be great but it's sad and shocking that it would happen under these circumstances.
-
It depends on the market but anything at 4am is a rehash of last night's news or announcing what's going to happen today. Many stations don't even have liveshots until 5am. The only new content is weather and whatever traffic there is. Starting that early feels unnecessary. I like the WSVN model. Rerun the 11pm news at 4:30 am and start the morning news at 5am (or 5:30 in quieter markets).

Rahima Ellis has such a warm voice. She would really be good as the Today news reader, a weekend nightly news host, or a substitute for Lester on NNN.

Reminds me of Katherine Creag's passing, just sudden and random with no visible indication. Very unexpected. Very tragic. RIP to Elise and condolences to her colleagues and family.

Ehhh... I like that broadcast remains mostly clean. I don't think shows should have to curse or have explicit sex scenes in order to be good. A good drama can stand on its own without those elements. We've all seen how low standards can go when they're relaxed (example the VMAs).

Ahh thanks for the clarification. I did see Ron and Jennifer and sometimes Jeff so I was confused as to whether Jeff was the substitute or the main. That's good that they're taped instead of live newscasts from 8-11pm.

I was hoping 11 Alive didn't go the 4:00 p.m. route as it had one of the few non news options at 4. Then again, what syndication choices do they really have anymore? They've got paid programming at on weekday as the lead in to the noon news. John should be a good fit. It's great that Faith Jessie will get another newscast as Ron and Jennifer Anchor ALOT of shows between 11 Alive and WATL.

Love the use of the 80s theme at the end and CBS 2's father and son commercial.

I had thought that the FCC had no authority over subscription channels like HBO. It surprised me to see that movie air because I thought basic cable channels could only do such a thing at night.

Didn't know where else to post this, I see "The Change Up" (2011) is airing at 11am ET on "E!" with a TV-14 rating. I'm surprised that a movie with such bold full frontal nudity is allowed to air in the daytime on basic cable with such small black censorship bars. How did this make it past the FCC?

Syndicated News for the 2022-23 TV Season
MediaZone4K replied to H-Town TV Fan's topic in General TV
No more newscasts. Please. It will just be rehashed packages and VO/SOTs from the morning news. EDIT: I say this also because in some markets, news directors will expect "one man band" multimedia journalists to switch up their packages for multiple newscasts. -
Rare indeed. Cool! I was just thinking about this. Some of the most iconic anchor duos -- especially in NYC -- have been two males yet we rarely see it in news across the country anymore. In sports and radio however, it's commonplace. My assumption is networks trying to appeal to a certain demo? IDK.

Exactly!!! It almost seems like current events go out of their way to occur during daytime soap broadcast times, lol. GH gets pre-empted heavily! Someone made this obvious statement but it stings. We really went from FREE quality television giving us 24 episodes a season, to a paid model scattered across streaming services (with eight to 10 episodes having long breaks between seasons) plus the cost of internet. Despite the modern advantages, it almost feels like we've regressed.

Has anyone watched WTTG's in house produced LION Lunch Hour and the DMV Zone? I like Fox 5's creative efforts at filling syndication holes with something other than newscasts. Now "DMV Zone" needs to switch up and lower the volume of their background music. It isnt needed for every segment. The hosts also needs to lower their voices.

Someone probably posted this already but wow. excuse my lack of knowledge, but why I haven't unions become more popular in newsrooms *if that would help*?
-
A lot of continuous reading I would assume. Maybe even prefering the vibe and energy of having an on air partner.

It was surprising that they openly criticized his management in the article. I thought it would be filled with corperate speak like "CNN is deciding to go in a new direction, we wish him well in his new endeavors".
-
Even this temporary set looks better than what WNBC has. Well lit, smooth, not too washed out. EDIT: This is a tired discussion but John Elliott belongs on the weekdays again, especially doing feature segments for the 9am. Give Cindy Hsu the noon as well.

Agreed. Bolder definitely looks better than the thin font they had last time.
