Back in the day there was a saturation of conflict talkers: Montel, Sally Jessie, Donahue, and extreme shows like Richard Bey, and Jerry. Now we have a saturation of soft talk shows: Sherri, J Hud, Kelly & Ryan. Now we need a healthy balance. Tamron Hall has the middle ground feel that Oprah used to have. The catch is, EVERY tv show tackles social issues, so yet another show having "hard conversations" might be exhausting. Any hard discussion talk shows need to have honest wide ranging opinions not just cookie cutter PC/right vs left stuff that you get on The Talk or The View. I would say we need more local talk shows but 8 hour Fox/CW morning news blocks past 8am are basically just that. I wonder what the next option to fill airtime is: sitcom reruns on big three networks? Reality show reruns? You know they've given up when paid programming gets day slots ---WXIA!

Propecy again fulfilled. Rachael had a good run and a good show, the program kind of just faded to the background in the last few years. Now...all eyes on Divorce Court in the next few seaons. We really new some new blood in daytime, not just more newscasts and not current events discussion shows that regurgitate the pop culture stuff on newscasts. EDIT: The future of the remaining soaps will be the biggest blow to daytime. CBS heads just fired Y&R's entire breakdown staff --not that they were doing a good job though.

Cool to see Stacy Ann back in the mornings as she had Inez's job on GDNY.

Maybe they can beat 11 Alive but Fox 5 and Channel 2 have better looking and smoother flowing newscasts than ANF.

WCBS's best graphic pagace and set look. They really gutted this after 1995. The "2 News" era also looked pretty good.

Why not just have Chris anchor 4 & 5 and Mr G 6, 6:30 and 10? I know they usually mix-and-match timeslots for anchors but meteorologist is unusual. Who anchors NY Living Now? These days you don't really have time to get used to talent arrangements as things switch up so rapidly.

Newsroom was fine. Was hoping they'd get back to an actual Newsroom look. Guess this goes with the reinvention.

Wait, I thought they were referring to the stations as "CBS News ANYTOWN" at all times, even outside of newscasts. Otherwise "CBS News Detroit" during newscasts and "CBS Detroit" during regular programming works fine. Hopefully they drop the "Afternoon Edition at 5/6" branding. It's too wordy. Try CBS News Texas at 6 or CBS Evening News: Texas. Something less clunkly.

Let's see how it looks. So far WTTG looks like the best in the market.

The majority of these are valid points. I get the idea behind a younger host but as we see with figures like Alex Trebek or Lee Lin Chin on SBS Australia, if the host is "hip enough" or carries that nostalgia factor, they'll also resonate with younger viewers. Plus marketing the experience of veteran anchors like Jim Gardner did might help. I also think presenting the news from an educational standpoint (a condensed version of explanatory journalism like various youtube channels and VOX, on top some positive --but not fluff --story choices might attract viewers. EDIT: I'm game, so longs as CBS doesn't dumb down the product to appeal to a younger audience (Today & GMA)

WNBC Live at Five intro (1994). Great synergy with the main NBC as Matt was Today's newsreader and the 5:00 show was broadcast from Studio 1A. I wish WNBC stuck with the Live at 5 format. Despite great aesthetics and decent talent WNBC saw a decline in the late 2007 before picking back up around 2012. They didn't have a noon or 5pm newscast for a while. Still curious as to the factors behind the afternoon block switch ups.

He reminds me of Tyler Perry. Billionaire status, alot of resources and money, but still insists on putting out a cheap product (OWN soap operas and quickly produced movies). Allen's court shows damage the genere furthering the notion that ALL daytime judge programs are fake. Even the logo for Allen's production company gives off that low budget vibe.

Those 2-3 pm and 7-7:30 slots are entertainment news shows produced by KTLA 5 so 7:30 pm is truly their only free daytime slot. All Live! Not even NY 1 is live all day.

Jodi Applegate was a capable talent who would've worked on another timeslot, not at the expense of Jim & Kaity. She could've been a great successor to Suki on Morning News. WPIX could have tried new formatting without dismantling it's set and placing the newscast in their cheap looking newsroom. The poor mobile immitation graphics made things worse. They should have at least remodeled the newsroom to make it broadcast friendly, something of a CityPulse news look. SB: Why does Jodi bounce around networks so frequently? She's a stong enough talent to put down roots at a station.

That was the confusing part for me. Hazel Sanchez (to my recollection) was always a reporter and never in an anchor much less light banter personality role. What made them see Hazel specifically and think to swap her for Betty in the critical AM slot? Not a knock on her, just curious. Do you all think the WPIX Morning News has improved in the post Sukanya era? Personally I think the show was at it's best when John Muller was anchor along with Lynn White and later Suki. Outside of Frances Rivera, I don't think any of Suki's later pairings clicked. The team of Jill Nicolini, Larry Hoff, Linda Church etc, were all great additions. At least 11's trying to get back to that team atmosphere now. Overall, I'll give PIX a slight edge, but them and Good Day New York aren't particularly strong right now.

I see WXIA Atlanta just swapped Dr Phil and Jennifer Hudson's timeslots, making her the lead in to the 5:00 News.

They should reverse the naming so it doesn't sound excessively long like CBS' O&Os "PIX 11 NewsNation at 6" flows better. "PIX 11 NewsNation's Kaity Tong is in Midtown with the latest."

Do we have an explanation as to why Pix axed her?

The remaining daytime offerings are slim for the picking. Realistically how much news can stations use to fill gaps before turning into KTLA. Fox 10 may have no choice but to air both shows in reruns.

I suspect we'll be hearing about Rachael Ray's show any day now. I question the futures of GH & Y&R after their anniversaries pass. The Talk has been renewed though. Ryan Seacrest, Dr Phil, Judges Milian and Mathis, James Corden, maybe Rachael Ray, what next? Hopefully the aforementioned court shows remain in syndication.
