I never got the vibe that there was tension between Ken & Shirleen and I never got the vibe that she was a mean person. The backlash against her is surprising given that a few months ago, members of this thread said she was national anchor material and a good get by WABC. But again, I --like many of us-- don't know her personally, and are not privy to what happens behind the scenes. Moreover, we have all been in a position where a coworker or someone we know pissed us off, and we said a word that we shouldn't have. For that, I'm not going to destroy Ken based on that one moment.

If I recall correctly they avoided any Ann clips in their 70th anniverary celebration.

Well that's disappointing if true. Shirleen to me came acorss warm and bubbly on camera. Unfortunately, the news --much like the rest of the corperate world-- can be a very fake and two faced industry.

I agree with your points. I respect that they break party lines--as any reasonable person should. My issue with MSNBC is that alot of the right leaning perspectives I see on the network are those who agree with what the leftist panelists/hosts are saying. That isn't balanced. To draw to draw things back to CNN you actually do see guests of opposing views on the network. The issue is that many of those opposing guests are often inflammatory and start arguments on air. I suppose News Nation is attempting to pull off that mission. Their execution is questionable however.

True, but Republicans like Joe & Nicole that are highly critical of their party (which is more palatable to MSNBC's base).

Speaking in general since we don't know what Ken said, does an accidental (non discriminatory slur) curse drop warrant firing?

It sounds unceremonious according to FTV live. The site reported there was allegedly sexual harassment involved. Make of that what you will. Post: https://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2017/8/17/exclusive-major-shake-up-coming-to-foxs-oo-station-in-nyc As for scheduling, perhaps: AM Michelle & Shirleen Noon & 4 Liz & David 5 Liz & Bill 6 & 11 Bill & Sade Weekend AM Toni & Mike Weekend 5 - Joe Weekend 6- Sandra Weekend 11- Joe & Sandra

Agreed! From what I've seen MSNBC panels don't usually have balanced opinions. They typically fill their shows with people along the leftist spectrum as to avoid scream television like CNN. MSNBC hosts usually parrott what they think the electorate thinks. The CNN town hall surprised me. As much as I agree with hosting a Republican Townhall for conservative voters to question their candidates, why would you give airtime to someone who you've devoted to taking down? Furthermore if Trump is pedaling conspiracies, why give him the platform to do so? There's a way to operate from the center without looking like your trying hard to appease a particular side.

Wow this sucks. Ken was a fixture on morning for years since Steve Bartelstein was out. I see WABC either giving Mike Marza or Michelle Charlesworth the slot. If Michelle gets the slot, make Toni Yates the permanent weekend AM anchor.

Finally!

He was younger than I thought! Sad. Last time I believe I saw him was the tribute to Bill McCreary.

Surprised George & Robin didn't anchor the coronation. The primary anchor roles were left to Michael & Lara. The same on CBS, I don't see Gayle, Tony & Nate, just the weekend team.

Eight CBS Stations to Ditch CW and Go Independent This Fall
MediaZone4K replied to AKA's topic in General TV
I'm surprised the CW is still a tv network with ratings as low as they are. Again, this begs the question, what will local station lineups look like with stations going independent and less syndication options. It cannot simply be news overkill. -
These videos have a wealth of classic clips from "Today" outside of the usuals we see circulating.

Sinclair Broadcast Group - General Discussion
MediaZone4K replied to Smitha A's topic in Corporate Chat
Not to verge too off topic but....Since I see Sinclair constantly (and with good reason get negative reviews), which large station group do you all feel manages their affiliates the best? -
Looking for some clips now. WABC's website doesn't include the toss back to the anchor in their youtube clips, where most of Bill's side comments are inserted (at least from what I've observed).

Jon Stewart clearly has his biases but he usually presents a fair arguement and this was no exception. He displayed how the right wing media takes overblown talking points and perfectly executes them into national movements and conversations. Conversely, he showed that the admittedly left leaning mainstream news media (and further left CNN and MSNBC) idealize themselves as the "seeking truth to power" alternative, but poorly execute that mission. He used CNN and MSNBC's over coverage of the Mueller Report --- which resulted in nothing --- as evidence. He even took a jab at his own streamer Apple Tv. This was a pretty good analysis, finding that even though Fox News gets most of the heat, MSNBC, CNN (and to a lesser extent the big three) all have their isssues.

WPIX fixed their mornings and fixed their set. Now their central issue is consistency. Part of cultivating an audience is viewers getting used to seeing regular faces on a particular show/timeslot. The constant shifting: Betty/Hazel, Chris Cimino, John/Kala, Kirsten Cole and more, is all over the place. Find a talent lineup that works and fight the compulsive urge to re arrange every few months.

There is a difference between "happy talk" comments like you stated and Ritter's snarky side comments which delve into outright stating his opinion. Yes but again, Beutel's segment was identified as commentary, evidenced by signature below the screen (I would have still opted for a clear editorial graphic). Some of his opinions weren't even direct, just generic wise sentiments such as below: Wether or not the ratings are affected, it's the principle if it. News is supposed to be straight fact and repoters must minimize their opinions as much as possible unless it's an editorial or analysis segment. Cable news teaches us what happens when too much opinionated content seeps into news. Alex S. Jones of Neiman Reports (not THAT Alex Jones) had a good take on this: "Enemies of objectivity argue that because journalists must be free of bias to be objective, and because this is impossible, it follows that objectivity is a false ideal...But objectivity does not require that journalists be blank slates free of bias. In fact, objectivity is necessary precisely because they are biased". In short, because we are all biased we need a source of outright fact, which in turn helps us create informed opinions.

CBS & their excessively long brandings. "WCCO News & CBS Minnesota". Interestingly enough, the multiple ABC 7 Eyewitness News stations have worked for ABC though.
-
WABC has the strongest weekend team which is especially good for Sunday night where primetime actually matters. The only way I see to accomodate them on weekdays would be at 5:00.
-
John & Craig have been moved around way too much. They, much like Kaity, deserve a weekday slot.

Nextar wouldn't want to pay that many bodies. AM 4:30-7 Vanessa & (Marysol?) 7-10 Dan & Tamsen? (if not then Hazel) 10-11 Marysol & Alex PM 4 & 6p Kala & Craig Treadway 5 & 10p John & Shirley I wonder if Tamsen would be better in the AM with Dan?
