  1. Has anyone had a chance to watch KTVA 11 News since the announcement? I wonder if the copyright L3 has changed to Gray yet, or if not, what does it say?
  2. I read an article from KTVA's website that said the parent company used someone to find a buyer but couldn't find one. I'm really surprised that even Nexstar didn't buy. Given that Mission is now buying WPIX, I would've thought that Nexstar would be free to buy a station like KTVA. Very unfortunate of what is happening to KTVA.
  3. That isn't clear at the moment. I hope the news dept is allowed to remain (actually I wish both are), though I'm not holding my breath much considering it's Gray.
  4. Just the CBS affiliation. But that entry on NMSA makes me think the (formerly) CBS 11 news dept has moved to KYES. Per Wikipedia, KYES will simulcast on KTVA...for now.
  5. News Music Search Archive now shows Icon News in use on KYES. So it would appear that maybe KTVA's newscasts have, in fact, moved over to KYES. The big question is now whether Gray allows KTUU and KYES (formerly CBS 11) to retain unique news departments. This entire deal makes me really wish Nexstar got KTVA instead. Even if they had bought both KTVA and KTUU, Nexstar would've at least kept both news brands.
  6. Does anyone actually believe Gray will keep the news operations separate? I personally think they'll merge it down the road, although I hope not. And how in the world can this possibly be legal? I know Gray only legally acquired the affiliation and "intellectual" assets (plus the Southeast Alaska stations), but I have a hard time seeing how this is legal. You have one owner with TWO big four affiliated stations at this point--supposedly with two separate news departments? Hello FCC?
  7. It would be a shame of WOIO dumped those graphics this soon. It's the best package they've had since the days of 19 Action News. Nothing in Gray's current graphics portfolio would be nearly as good as the current gfx on WOIO.
  8. I'm glad to hear that Mission is buying WPIX. This is a smart move on Nexstar's part. Hopefully the deal is allowed to go through.
  9. I'm assuming it was the newsroom setup, or was it from the studio?
  10. Here's an article done by NewscastStudio about the new WTSP logo. https://www.newscaststudio.com/2020/05/27/wtsp-new-logo-design/
  11. Although I generally take the laissez-faire approach when it comes to the FCC, there is a part of me that wants to see the requirement (for having a legal counsel attest to the application being made in good order) required of all companies. But I'm glad there is finally some type of resolution to this dispute and Sinclair can finally put the Tribune merger fiasco behind them.
  12. AMEN.
  13. This is how Tegna's website design appears on my laptop. KFSM: WTSP:
  14. I can't be sure, but I can just guess he was referring to the low resolution of that 10 logo. Tegna needs to redo the logo section of their new website design. Many logos on Tegna's new website format are barely legible...and I'm being generous in saying that. One station in particular has their slogan so small it would be better described as fine print. Make the logo space bigger or have the logo take up a larger part of that section so it's easier to read/look at. Either way Tegna needs to address this sooner rather than later.
  15. Both of those would look much better on WTSP. The current multi-lined logo they seem to be adopting is just too busy looking and distracting.
  16. I agree with you. I would just say that many companies weren't going into this with the best balance sheet. I think Sinclair has time to effectively mitigate any major issues.
  17. Glad that Sinclair is finally able to put that debacle behind them. The dollar figure is a bit higher than I expected, but it's still consistent with what I thought would happen long ago that it would just be a fine as the sole requirement to turn the page. Hopefully Sinclair will do better with their acquisition strategy moving forward. I don't think this will in any way derail their balance sheet. I suspect Sinclair already knew a fine would be forthcoming and were already planning to factor that into their expenses for awhile (long before the RSNs and COVID). And if in the off chance it did derail their balance sheet, remember that every company is in big trouble right now from the response to COVID-19. Until the states fully reopen and people open their wallets again, everyone is less than "healthy" as a company--notwithstanding a few exceptions (Walmart, Amazon, etc).
  18. Tegna needs to make the logo section bigger on the website. And I still wish the 10 typeface would be made solid (or have fewer lines) instead of the ridiculous number of lines (which doesn't show up good at all on the website).
  19. I noticed them using a promo with the Aerial package awhile back. I hope they're not planning to drop the KRON music pkg.
  20. Hiring advisory firms and such didn't result in them having to furlough people. Extravagant spending by the company's board just to retain board members (and that's not automatically the same thing as "defending" them against Standard), combined with the questionable (at best) circumstances regarding their shareholder voting process are just two of the long list of reasons I don't see this as a deathblow to Standard. This isn't over by any means.
  21. Personally I view that Nexstar is not going to be a great candidate for Tegna, although they might be able to pull it off (at least in buying a large part of the stations if intervening future circumstances allow). My reasoning for this is they still have until next year to acquire "back" WPIX from Scripps--and I can only imagine how much they want to get into that market. And if I was Nexstar, I would be actively trying to get WPIX. I still think Standard is the front runner candidate for Tegna--at least practically speaking. They seem to be the perfect fit given that they aren't even nearly close to the ownership cap as it currently stands now. And perhaps TBN could get any divestitures (or at least some divestitures) if Standard managed to get Tegna outright.
  22. I wonder what the reasoning is for holding on to their layouts from Dispatch. Although I'm not holding my breath much, I personally would prefer that they keep the Dispatch layout. I really like the way Dispatch did their sites--especially WBNS.
  23. I'm leaning towards saying that Disney may not do anything with selling ABC...at least not anywhere soon enough for it to matter.
  24. Tegna desperately needs new corporate leadership. If common sense prevailed, they shouldn't have spent whatever it costs to anchor "from home" only to then announce that workers are going to start getting furloughed. Now is not the time to be betraying its own workforce (or even have the appearance thereof) when they are tasked with relaying important information to viewers under difficult circumstances. There was surely a way to achieving a reasonable budget for having remote broadcasting without it leading to a situation where furloughs come into play. Or at least that's how I'm interpreting this discussion. If anything, this only further makes me convinced that Tegna needs a completely new board to lead the company--now.
