I mean, unless Tony wants to develop multiple personalities? Otherwise I think this was implied.

I mean, probably not a great move for Matt, but for CBS, it's a big get from the #1 broadcast news network- not unlike NBC poaching Tom Llamas for Nightly. I would agree that if he was on final strike at ABC, this was a win/win at least for now.

As opposed to Nexstar, Sinclair, or Allen possibly scooping the stations up? This board would lose their damn minds if that was ever the case. Fox is far from a worst-case scenario for these stations. There are a handful of larger markets where Fox does not own a station (Denver, Miami come to mind) which means nothing would likely change at those properties. Where there is overlap (LA, NY have been mentioned already) hopefully a plan can be devised to maintain a certain degree of separation outside of major events and breaking coverage. Hell- many of these stations have already been sharing things like a chopper for years now. the next few weeks will reveal those plans if this is deal is being considered.

When do the affiliates start to say something? Every anchor change had tanked viewership even more, and that has got to be affecting the local news on either side of EN. If I were a CBS affiliate where I was also the market leader I would be pissed that this keeps happening. (Yes, there are decent markets where the CBS station is still a market leader)

Update- Attorneys for Wren Clair and Hubbard Broadcasting have filed motions for dismissal of the lawsuit with prejudice according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press (Yahoo link added due to paywall) In somewhat related news- KSTP Chief Met Ken Barlow is "Open To Work" on LinkedIn according to BringMeTheNews and is available "immediately"

Very well could have been Linsey's doing... No big plans on for Thanksgiving but want the extra time off at Christmas, or somewhere else in the year? I'd make that deal. Point is, this might have been part of a game of Tetris to get everyone the time off they wanted most.

And in some of these markets, where would NBC go if they pull the plug? ATL and PHX they can go to Gray, who has indy stations in the market, But Minneapolis they are stuck with KARE unless they go back to Hubbard and settle for KSTC (Assuming Hubbard keeps ABC on KSTP). Denver is another question mark if they leave Nexstar/Tegna... Hope Scripps lets you go on KCDO?

Those were my first thoughts reading through... Cleveland was a surprise, also didn't think that WTSP and WWL were still ranked as high as they are. KPNX in 5th place below both of the Gray duopoly's seemed odd, as well as KGW being in last place in Portland. I know it's proprietary, but those actual numbers would be interesting to see. They were really good with using the spread to their advantage where they could- Example: It is indeed true that WOI is a way distant third to KCCI and WHO- and there is a case, and precedent, from Sioux Falls when Gray got KDLT with the argument that when added to KSFY, they still would have lower combined ratings that KELO... Similar should apply there.

Got a couple retirements here in the Upper Midwest on December 5... Daren Danielson is retiring from WDIO/WIRT. Daren has been the station's anchor since 2011, but has been a fixture in the market for years at KDLH and WDSE. Judy Clark is retiring as anchor at WEAU after 35 years with the station.

KCBS 2/KCAL 9 - CBS Los Angeles News Thread
GodfreyGR replied to Roadrunner's topic in Los Angeles News
This makes my head hurt... Isn't the reason when they dumped CBS2 for the KCAL branding (before the latest rebranding) was because KCAL had the stronger brand and viewership? Why wouldn't they just keep the newscast on 9 and dump the syndicated programming on 2? -
Disney did ask for ABC to be restored for a 24-Hour period with election results while they still try to hammer out a deal. YTTV's response was pretty good. https://blog.youtube/news-and-events/our-response-to-disneys-request-to-restore-abc/

Not so fast my friend... They worked that in as well.

Not Late Show, but Late Night in the Paramount family... Jon Stewart has been renewed through December 2026. Then again, aside from South Park reruns, what else does Comedy Central have? https://www.cnn.com/2025/11/03/media/jon-stewart-paramount-daily-show-comedy-central-cbs

"AK" instead of "Alaska" makes it easier to read in smaller formats. 1) Mobile App tile 2) Social Media Icon 3) the tiny icon that superimposes the network logo on the guide for things like YTTV and Hulu Live. I think stations are learning the hard way about having too much in the logo. An example (The first one that I found quickly from Google, not to single them out) is KAIT... Their icon vs. A&E right about it is evidence enough to go for a logo that would fit perfectly inside of a square. I've seen some Gray stations in the Midwest (Dakota News Now, Valley News Live) where those logos how they have them now are tough to make out when scrolling for the channel you want

Will be fun to find out... Some might opt for local news that hour, But the network will have to push something out. I've got money on a rerun of one of the game shows- Price is Right, LMAD, or they pick up Perfect Line for the remainder of the season since CBS already distributes it.

Keep Maurice, but dump the format for what has become the modern-traditional evening news format that NBC and ABC are using. Accept that you will always be in 3rd place, but you're also stuck with far less overhead than the competition. Set it and forget it. The long-form stories CBS generally does well at does not work in the attention deficit ordered society Social Media has curated... Leave those on 60 Minutes and Sunday Morning. However, constantly changing the show keeps sinking them lower. If they had never pulled John from FTN, he would still be there today, and be doing very well.
-
If that's really the move, make it optional for the affiliates who could extend their local morning news at that point.

I mean, perhaps not as many as we think? Doesn't Circle City have a bunch of openings from that revolving door mass exodus they themselves caused?
-
So... What's the end game for Scripps? Is this to deal with current cash issues? Or are they looking to buy elsewhere and needed the capital?

John Dickerson is leaving CBS News. https://www.foxnews.com/media/cbs-news-anchor-john-dickerson-exit-network-bari-weiss-era-shakeup-begins

That would not surprise me... I would have to do some digging, but I think it has been shown here, and on other sites, that Gray was testing this out an implementing for some time now.

It's interesting how some of the Hearst stations have dumped Bank Gothic (KCRA, WISN, KMBC...) and which ones have held on to it for dear life like WTAE. I would think for a group like Hearst who cookie cutters graphics like they do, would mandate logo fonts? I do agree though- Definitely admirable.
