  1. C'mon now... NBC can't do worse than the goodbye for Ann Curry's 15 years on the show... Tom's busy with "Top Story" on the streamer while he waits for Lester to retire. No way he left his gig at ABC to not eventually get the Nightly News chair.
  2. Just curious- if anyone has insight- on how gathering info via helicopter is being worked out... There was the story earlier this week that a drone interfered with a copter working on putting out the fires, and I see this morning that KTLA is making use of "Sky 5" as a split screen during morning press briefings. Are stations sharing a helicopter to reduce interference with the firefighting effort? Are news stations keeping well away and zoomed in like all hell? You can see it on the faces and hear it in their voices that anchors and reporters are all getting fatigued (also- camera operators and producers!) All of the reporting and news gathering I have watched this week has been an all-star effort from all the news teams.
  3. I had that late Tuesday night on their website and FireStick app... And briefly this morning on their website. Could it be crashing from increased traffic?
  4. It should, and perhaps in the short term it will; but overall it's wishful thinking unfortunately.
  5. Worth noting that it appears to be that NBC NewsNow is going about their normal day- Cali Fires easily the Top Story, but they're also showing New Orleans Terror Attack and Space Shuttle in their 2E/1C Headline run. NBCnews.com front page is streaming KNBC-TV's Live Feed though!
  6. Agreed! And KLTA has been phenomenal tonight (Just what I've left the TV on at this point... Tired of clicking around) But... Get rid of the NewsNation bar- With all of the life and death info right now that needs to be displayed on the L3 and ticker- this is just distracting clutter and to be honest, no one in LA is watching NewsNation tonight when the headline is their own backyard.
  7. This. Exactly this. Also why when there's weather and Al, Ginger... Whoever the respective network has... is not available they throw it to an O&O met in NY or Chicago and not the weather guy in market 100-whatever.
  8. Long story short- the GM took a couple minutes of the newscast to explain WBRE's long-standing affiliation with NBC and that NBC is more focused on Peacock than providing programming for their affiliates, which he then lamented loses millions of dollars while listing all the Peacock-exclusive programming. Comments were also made how while doing all of this, NBC/Comcast is squeezing more money out of the affiliates. Anyone else feel free to add anything I missed.
  9. It seemed rogue... I don't believe any other of Nexstar's NBC affiliates produced anything like that. From a negotiations standpoint, nothing productive could come from airing that. Right up there with the affiliates saying that DirecTv/Dish/Comcast et al. are taking their quality local programming away when there's a retransmission dispute.
  10. Temporary extension for a few days.
  11. Fair point- and probably a factor to some degree. Which means ABC (and others) should keep that in mind when it comes to affiliate renewals- Provideth for the Network as the Network provideth onto you (11th commandment?)
  12. Hallie has been solid with NBC's Special Report coverage lately (She was in 1A for Jimmy Carter's passing as well)- For this, she did reporting on information she had available, but also openly stated that they were joining WDSU's coverage in progress for a few minutes at a time. Honestly, for the big three to do this with their affiliates is a smart move over the cable networks. The local reporters and anchors know their communities far more intimately than than a national reporter does.
  13. Nice to see that ABC finally cut in. Woke up (About 8am Central), saw the news, CBS and NBC were both well into Special Report mode. ABC came back from commercial with the GMA staff, "Portions Recorded" showing in the top left corner of the screen and Stephanopoulos openly stating that the show was pre-recorded. The ball dropped on ABC at midnight- didn't know that was the visual representation on how they were going to operate in 2025.
  14. Say what you want about Fox News- Cavuto was always solid, and he persevered through a lot. I agree with what he said in his signoff about calling balls and strikes- he often had no problem bucking the consensus of many others in the lineup. Chris Wallace left CNN to do move over to the "new media environment"- A Wallace/Cavuto team-up might be interesting to see. Otherwise, his reporting style might have a place over at CBS... I'm excited to see what's next for him.
  15. I get fire code... But that Exit sign behind the 3x3 distracts the heck out of me. If they use this for anything long term, I would hope they can reframe the shot to eliminate that.
  16. Question- WCCO is running a Wheel episode back from when Sajak was still hosting... Accidental? Or is there a set amount of time before an episode from Seacrest's tenure can air as a weekend rerun?
  17. ABC has settled with President-Elect Trump in the defamation case tied to the George Stephanopoulos/Nancy Mace interview where Mr. Stephanopoulos misstated the verdicts in two civil lawsuits against Mr. Trump. $15 million donation to a non-profit established for a Donald Trump Presidential Library Publish a note of regret on the story in question on the ABC News website An additional $1 Million to Mr. Trump's lawyers https://apnews.com/article/abc-trump-lawsuit-defamation-stephanopoulos-04aea8663310af39ae2a85f4c1a56d68
  18. WLUC has a weather team of three- and one of them doubles as an MMJ. Far smaller department than most CA stations (KCAL has 7, for example, with some of them working 2 a shift) and the average salary for a TV met in the UP of Michigan is certainly far lower than that of one anywhere in CA. I guess my point here with respect is that they "could" do the microclimate, but it's also for lack of better words an "I don't get paid enough to do the extra work" and/or "we don't have the staff/resources" situation. I would assume that those who have lived there a season or two know when it says "20's" if they are on the upper or lower bounds of that scale based on their geography to the lake.
  19. If I were a betting man, I would guess a deal will be struck with Gray shortly- They don't complete with TEGNA in Minnesota, and have the My9 Sports subchannel for KBJR/Duluth, and plenty of subchannel options for KTTC/Rochester, KEYC/Mankato, KSFY/Sioux Falls and KVLY/Fargo to air the game on for Greater Minnesota.
  20. Correct statement. Gray has NBC in all those markets except Wausau where they have CBS (Although we know they are pulling the same stuff as Allen) NBC in Wausau is actually in Rhinelander and owned by Rockfleet... Not sure if they're in a position to pick anyone up in that market. Edit- When the Chief Met is also the News Director, Rockfleet probably isn't in a position to be picking up any new talent.
  21. Perhaps CBS realizes that the majority of the news audience they have watch streaming instead of broadcast, and in turn are turning to their streaming anchors to be the new face of the division? Can we also hypothesize that DuBois and Dickerson together are probably still less expensive than O'Donnell salary-wise, and CBS is doing it on the cheap realizing no matter what, they are likely to stay in 3rd place?
  22. Per The Hollywood Reporter: "On NBC, while viewers will see Rockefeller Plaza behind the anchors, the studio is actually placed right in the newsroom, with Tom Llamas’ big board just steps away (like on MSNBC, Lester Holt and Savannah Guthrie will be able to see what he is looking at), and the newsroom directly adjacent to the set."
  23. WNEP is making news for a test of the election ticker that broadcast on-air over the weekend... And the station has issued a statement about it
  24. Hoda is "Opening up" to PageSix on who she wants to replace her on Today... Ultimately a bunch of non-answers to who it's actually going to be. “Look, you get to sit next to Savannah Guthrie … here’s what you’re going to do: You’re going to ride sidecar and say ‘Thank you very much,’ OK?” https://pagesix.com/2024/10/29/entertainment/hoda-kotb-weighs-in-on-who-she-wants-to-replace-her-on-today/
  25. You know the political ad buying is getting hot in Wisconsin when ads for their US Senate and State Assembly Races are airing in Minneapolis for the sliver of Wisconsin counties that are a part of the market. Kind of odd that Gray is only doing it with WBAY when they have stations that cover most of Wisconsin (WMTV, WEAU, WSAW, KBJR). So much more opportunity to grab those political ad dollars serve and inform the community.
