Mrtraveler01 738
Oh, and the actual Olympics graphics ... these are probably, by far, the worst design I've ever seen. They're seemingly a modification of Sochi/London, except with this ugly teal color and well... Who thought yellow text was such a good idea? Otherwise these graphics wouldn't look as terrible as they do now. Darius22 122
I once got this Wierd Olympic ID thing multiple times with KCRA during an SNL Commercial break every few seconds that would loop. not sure why. its similar to the NBC peacock loop in raw feeds of the network. scrabbleship 429
You mean like the ice desks WKYC and 11Alive used? If memory serves me right WCNC had an ice desk too. Was their first sweeps/Olympiad after Gannett bought Belo's stations and their only Olympiad before the Tegna spinoff. Eat News 4745
I thought the final destination was at rio de janiero No, The water was dirty when they got there, and the birds all had zeka virus. So they are going to Jamaica instead. Since it's too late to change the graphics they are just going to use the RIO graphics and hope nobody notices. Try not to tell anybody please because we don't want to ruin it for NBC. skbl17 188
How so? #nbcfail on Twitter ('tis tradition). There are probably other anti-NBC hashtags I don't know about. On Reddit, the Olympics subreddit has four threads complaining about NBC. In the broadcasts themselves, the BBC, Globo, and ARD all poked fun at NBC doing things like trying (and failing) to get the Parade of Nations order changed to English, delaying the U.S. broadcast by an hour, and airing commercials every three minutes. TriangleTriadMediaNews 267
I often wonder how FOX, CBS, or ABC would cover the Olympics nowadays. ABC especially because they have the entire ESPN family, along with Freeform if needed. Jterry 43
ABC/ESPN would probably not tape-delay (I bet the other networks would though), but I doubt it would be that much different otherwise honestly. Especially with the advertisements. People do like to pile on NBC and certainly I have my own qualms but when you pay billions for the rights to broadcast, you have to recoup that money some way. NBC had record ratings in 2012 for a reason. They have a model that works for the broad viewing audience. ESPN would certainly come closest to making it back to a true sports vs. entertainment event for its audience but even it would continue a lot of NBC's traditions I'd wager. ESPN probably could provide a more stable/extensive digital outlet, though let's see how NBC holds up with its streaming offering in the coming days. danderson500 29
Channel Seven in AUS from what i heard, only showed a few ads during the ceremony. They are recouping it now though, with the Swans scoring a lot of goals in the Aussie Rules game they are showing now(listening to it via the ABC stream on the AFL web site) Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/12022-olympics-broadcasting-thread/page/6/#findComment-156814 Share on other sites
Robin Red 104
I often wonder how FOX, CBS, or ABC would cover the Olympics nowadays. ABC especially because they have the entire ESPN family, along with Freeform if needed. ESPN does not tape delay that often, they can use their platforms to deadicate to each different sport. NBC does the worse job, they are not really a sports network their biggest strength is news. That is why they focus so much on the storylines of the sport more then the sport itself. The best thing NBC has doing for them is the Olympics theme.
