CircleSeven 1955
Nexstar is buying the non-license assets of WLWC from OTA Broadcasting for $4.1 Million. OTA had bought WLWC from Sinclair several years ago and sold its spectrum in the incentive auction. This is somewhat of a comeback for Nexstar. It had "operated" WLWC and the rest of the Four Points stations from 2009-2012, before Sinclair bought the group. They'll just operate the linear CW stream, and place it on either WPRI or WNAC spectrum. It's funny because Outlet placed the WLWC calls there in the 1990s so an LP station in Columbus couldn't use them (of course, WCMH being the original WLWC - and now is also in Nexstar hands). channel2 979
Part of me wonders if they wanted to rename WCMH back to WLWC and this was the easiest way to do it? 1 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/12826-nexstaragain/page/41/#findComment-180628 Share on other sites

Yeah, basically the WLWC's network and syndie programming will be move to a subchannel of either 12 or 64 (so example, 12.2 or 64.3 or whatever). All OTA has to do is turn off WLWC and "that's all she wrote" with the license. Maybe WCMH is not doing so hot lately and they want to reboot the station as WLWC. And then WDTN could go back to being WLWD. Or a certain merger happens that will be Nexstar's version of the Sinclair-Tribune deal which will almost certainly never happen. Imagine the conflicts on that one. Rusty Muck 4374
They still need WLWT though, which is pretty much out of reach unless they make a trade. WTHR (nee WLWI) is also unavailable. Ditto with "The Nation's Station," 700 WLW (namesake for the entire WLW chain).** Although if a Nexstar-TEGNA merger goes through, they'd have WXIA, which was WLWA*** in the 1960s. ** Columbus had its share of chain stations throughout the years... prior to being purchased by Taft, 610 WTVN was WHKC, an outpost of the then-Cleveland Plain Dealer-owned 1420 WHK. Taft then paired WTVN AM/TV by purchasing WLWC-TV's FM partner, 96.3 WLWF, rechristened WTVN-FM, now WLVQ. *** Not to be confused with 550 WKRC's brief stint as 550 WLW-A in the early 1990s when Taft/Great American was broken up. It's not the same station, but if they wanted to they could rebrand WISH as WLWI and make it a de facto "spiritual successor"... Ahhhh...everything old is new again. Has Nexstar EVER owned any radio assets? 5 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/12826-nexstaragain/page/41/#findComment-180684 Share on other sites

J1975am 208
Sorry to bump this thread, but a change at KLFY in Lafayette, LA. After almost four decades, their "hurricane"-style logo is history. Their new logo debuted this morning.... KLFY also debuted new graphics, anchor IDs, and a new theme as well. I believe the new theme is a Stephen Arnold composed piece (as Nexstar likes to use Stephen Arnold music for their stations). I'm also guessing that despite the new graphics, theme, and formatting as per Nexstar's style, the news on KLFY will still be done in the manner that viewers are accustomed to.... Here is a cleaner image of the logo..... Very scary, I know...... NWA_TV_guy 151
KLFY has been Nexstar-ized. Do they have a Nexstar URL? KADN had CajunFirst.com, but when Nexstar dropped KADN for KLFY the CajunFirst.com domain was moved to KLFY. It directs you to KLFY.com though. 1 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/12826-nexstaragain/page/41/#findComment-188595 Share on other sites

They're more likely to have WFAA, KHOU, KENS, and KXAN as flagships (they're sisters in the same state and the first station listed is also in the same DMA Nexstar is headquartered in) than to have WXIA. 1 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/12826-nexstaragain/page/41/#findComment-188604 Share on other sites
J1975am 208
As I figured, KLFY is using a Stephen Arnold package (Canvas). This decision by KLFY (or corporate, if not at the station level) somehow makes sense, since many former Media General stations (WJTV, WJHL, WNCN, and WSAV) are using it now, and other former MG stations (WCMH, WFLA) have used it in the past.... atlnews2 591
Do any other ex-MG stations use Nexstar URLs? The only one that still uses a nexstar URL in any form would be be WCWJ. they still use yourjax.com as their web address and online branding, but it is hosted as a section of WJXT's news4jax.com. 4 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/12826-nexstaragain/page/41/#findComment-188722 Share on other sites
tyrannical bastard 3951
...and KLFY is the first former Media General station to undergo a Nexstar-style makeover! At least they've kept the klfy.com default and former LIN template on their website. But I cringe when the CrappyLocalWebsite.com domains start rolling out...if ever. Since they own Lakana, it will only be a matter of time before it becomes their CMS over WordPress. DesertNewsGeek 47
I thought Nexstar was keeping the former LIN CMS platform for the former MG stations, as they liked the platform. As for their Lakana ownership, the legacy stations are still using the web CMS, but have switched their mobile apps to Newscycle/DoApp (for all stations). I'm beginning to wonder if Lakana is in for a sea change or on the outs in the near future. news89 468
Looks like the former WV Media Holding stations have went to back to call letter websites. When Nexstar took over those stations under brokerage agreement websites changed to example: tristateupdate.com for WOWK. Now it's back to wowktv.com same goes for WTRF, WVNS and WBOY. Could this be a sign of change? 1 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/12826-nexstaragain/page/41/#findComment-190233 Share on other sites
