TEGNA Broadcasting and Digital General Discussion

ABC 7 Denver

Recommended Posts

On the 5:00 news KIII debuted a new #ThisIsHome promo that promotef the new Gannett Graphics. It was pretty neat. It appears they will debut it this monday, also the 3NEWS logo does not have the ABC logo in it.

That is scheduled to be the same day as KIDY/KXVA, unless they slide to the right as well.

For some reason when I googled Tegna I misspelled it and got this result Tenga (NSFW - no pornography but it's definitely something you shouldn't be looking at at work). Did anyone at Gannett ever think of googling their new name (and misspellings) and seeing what similar results might come up? From now on when I hear the name Tegna I will think of those sex toys.

Thanks Gannett for putting my head in the gutter.

Looks like Gannett has decided on a new name for its broadcasting unit. It'll now be called TEGNA.

Yeah, I don't get it either.

It's just a scrambling of Gannett, with only one N and T.

Whoever thought this up probably was the same person who played with Photoshop to "redesign" the Cleveland Browns helmet a few weeks earlier...

Both the browns and Gannett/Tegna probably paid some firm half a million bucks to come up with it.

Why they went for what barely is an anagram, I don't know. Tribune played it smart by keeping the same name for the publishing spinoff and the broadcasting/digital/real estate unit. Tegna sounds like oddly futuristic... in a more puzzling way than actually good.

...or resurrect the death star, make it a symbol and call it "The company formerly known as Gannett"

And since the Comcast deal is on death's door "Spinco" sounds pretty good too.

Technically, the company is currently named Gannett Spinco, Inc (a Gannett subsidiary) so you almost have your wish.

It's not necessarily the fault of those firms - the clients just tend to blow a bunch of money on "why bother" or flat-out baffling solutions, picked from what is almost certainly all manner of better/more interesting ones.

"Tegna" sounds like the name a scandal-ridden insurance company would adopt to me.

The Twitter-verse was quite abuzz over the name change.

Both TVSpy (http://www.adweek.com/tvspy/the-best-tegna-twitter-reactions/146425) and FTVLive posted a sampling of the reactions (both had the nearly the exact same tweets, so I'll save a link).

But I think my favorite is from @nswartsell: "The letters in the company name had to reapply for their jobs, and apparently only some made the cut."

I wonder where that extra N and T will go now.... :rofl!:

Or use the USA Today logo as a remnant of the soon to be former owners of the media arm and make "Tegna" the same font used on said logo.

On the graphic front:

- G-Teams Fox Affiliates KIDY & KXVA put up their This is Home promos on Monday.

KXVA: https://www.facebook.com/KXVAFOX/videos/443216345843188/?permPage=1

KIDY: https://www.facebook.com/Kidyfoxsanangelo/videos/696773593777805/?permPage=1

They are supposed to roll out their new graphics today. Hopefully AI-SA-TX gives us a link/video of the open. (wink wink). Still waiting to get a grab of KIII's open as well.

After the KXVA & KIDY switch, all of the ex-London stations will be on the new graphics.

Here's our A block, some minor issues but overall I thought it went well. We do have a time/temp via newsticker, but our world now server only encodes video directly from Tricaster.

Edit: Here is the full 9 o'clock cast.
